The other are certainly very grand and impressive, but this one… This one is intimate.
“I shall agree on one condition.” “You do not understand, Your Grace—” “That you call me Simon.” “If we are truly to seem to be courting, if this is to be a match like no other, you should call me by my name.” “Very well… Simon.” [stifled chuckle] “Is there something funny about my name?” “No, no, no. It is a perfectly fine name.” “Oh, perfectly fine? Very well… Daphne.”

Your Grace… I had no intention -
Of knocking the climp flat out? Well, I must say, I am impressed.

I am sorry but this whole “Bellarke is sooo unique because they are platonic” thing is complete bullshit. If that’s how you want them to be perceived by the audience, then please
a) stop underdeveloping all the other romantic ships in comparison
b) stop with the Bellarke scenes that clearly have a romantic undertone, like focusing on Clarke’s reaction everytime Blercho kiss, the face-caressing, the “traitor who you love”- and “he’d do anything for her”-lines, the parallels to other couples on the show, the freaking 2199 radio calls?!
So many people don’t just ship it because the characters are nice to look at together and their actors have chemistry; it is clearly in the writing. It is not the audience’s fault that the way their dynamic is framed by the narrative is building up their expectations towards romance, it is because you deliberately portray it as such with no intention to deliver, and you know it.
I know full well the writers don’t owe us the canon we are hoping for. But it would be easy enough to establish them as powerful leaders and friends without making it seem so overtly romantic and getting people’s hopes up in the process, especially when you know that’s the reason so many people are still watching in the first place. Choosing to write Bellarke the way it is written but calling them “platonic soulmates” is not being edgy, or different. That’s toying with your audience and frankly, being a dick.
Really. It is.
12 Monkeys ended perfectly and everyone knows it.
