Twilight is forced to eliminate Celestia after her eventual dive into a madness-driven hunger for more magical power. At first it goes unnoticed, but as Luna is seen less and less outside of the castle and then outside of her tower twilight grows increasingly worried for the sisters. Celestia is reported to have been holding councils with her more talented magical students right before their sudden disappearances. Twilight becomes suspicious of Celestia, and eventually confronts her. Her suspicions are proved valid once Celestia attempts to drain her magical powers—leaving her without her wings once again. Twilight is forced to do the unthinkable-and then briefly goes into hiding, worried that she would be condemned.
Shortly after fleeing, twilight started to notice changes in her attitude and appearance. It seemed that part of celestia had somehow grabbed a hold of twilight and was trying to take over. Luckily for her, twilight only suffered a couple of permanent changes—her coat seemed to lighten a bit, her mane grew longer and flowier, and she grew a peculiar jag on the end of her horn. For a long time after she went into hiding, she spent her time trying to think of ways to fix what had happened. In the end, though, she realized that even if her life as she knew it was in ruins, she did the right thing for equestria. Her countless experimental spells, however, attracted the attention of another somepony of great power—watching from afar for a while, discord had felt her large shifts of power from trying to find some way to bring celestia back in a different state of mind. He only stepped in once he realized she was draining her own life over something that was impossible to achieve.
