Not only that but it seems both of them enjoy teasing/creeping others out, the main difference is Ukyo doesn't have any ulterior motives bro is just there for the fun of it meanwhile Kyle's purpose in the story is collecting bey data of other bladers and sending them to Dread Tower

my psychoanalysis/character analysis on kanon ota and forte solo.

(@teddeybee sorry it took so long for me to get to this request... ive been extremely busy this month with all sorts of things, especially school..)

SPOILER WARNING: this will go very in depth about major plot and character moments.

OPINION/THEORY WARNING: this is just how *i* interpret the characters and youre free to think otherwise. i'll phrase it matter of factly just so i dont have to say "i think" 20 thousand times, but it is indeed, still just my opinion.

so please dont take me as some kind of authority on the matter; of course it wont be written super professionally, since i am merely a hyperfixated teenager...

i already analyzed forte by himself in my cyrus/forte analysis, so you can just read his part there.

this post especially focuses on forte and kanon Together, but i'll also give some analysis on kanon for context.

kanon is also cagey about herself, much more than any of the others. but it becomes clear eventually that she actually feels A LOT, and just feels the need to hide it. since shes rather socially isolated in general, it could suggest an emotionally abusive/neglectful childhood, where her emotions would get questioned, mocked or outright shut down. if she witnesses something impactful/traumatic, she either hides quickly (flight), or stills and insists not to be bothered or engaged with (freeze).

her specialty being rückenfigur is also symbolic- photographers are, naturally, artists, who feel a lot. but she prefers to stay withdrawn, taking pictures of the subjects back rather than their face (and sometimes plants too, it seems like); a complete subversion of the "photographer who shoves their camera in everyones faces" trope.

(side note: she also gives in rather easily. she comes across as very cold and secure, but she is actually easily swayed- like when art asked her to take the group photo, or when she was essentially begging lyle not to destroy her camera.)

at the end of the day theres nothing explicitly malicious about her. she obviously wants to help her peers in some way, and we see this with echo but especially forte!

forte seems to be kanons complete antithesis/foil. hes loud, chatty, charismatic and doesnt mind helping others directly. its hard to imagine them ever getting along, but they do anyway!

whats in it for forte? honestly, its hard to say.. hes just naturally drawn to helping any and everyone. for kanon though, forte clearly means a lot, or at least his mere presence and behavior has made her contemplate things. seeing someone being so naturally fun and outgoing and with so much love in their heart is hard to grasp if youre someone like kanon. it makes you think if you could be like them too one day, because ultimately, everyone just wants to be happy. how could someone still be so kind-hearted despite the situation were in?

kanon seems to get easily attached. one example is the aforementioned camera, who she claims to have "complicated feelings" towards, more hateful than not, but she still wants to keep it and wouldnt want it destroyed. (its also important to note that in that scene, forte is the one who gave her camera back. though, maybe he wouldve stepped in either way, regardless of who it was.)

my idea is that she developed some sort of emotional attachment to forte too. her monotone front is indeed also used to make people keep their distance, but forte is insistent yet understanding. he doesnt chase (force kanon to open up), but he doesnt run away (consider her completely unimportant) either; and that kind of person is all kanon really needed in the end. she probably feels safe with him, and thats why theyre usually paired up too.

regarding their "parley" in the garage, its hard to say how exactly the conversation went, other than "[forte] told me i shouldnt try to forego attempts to escape this game" (to be honest, i dont even fully know what this means, since english is not my first language... im guessing its essentially just "try to be more cooperative"). kanon seems frustrated about this, but notably still takes his advice in the end, since, again, she gives in rather easily.

and in the late game, kanon says that she shot forte by accident, when really she was aiming for sei in order to defend him. suddenly, shes pulled out of her freeze/flight responses and is now holding an actual weapon to protect her friend, which must attest to forte clearly changing Something within her. in any case, if kanon were to pick one person from the killing game to be in her company, itd probably be him.

thats my analysis! it was shorter because kanon sparsely talks, and she is unfortunately not the protagonist... forte/kanon also doesnt spin around in my head nearly as much as forte/cyrus does

(side note: i understand how people might see them romantically, but ive always interpreted them as sibling-like. older gymbrother hyping up his younger autistic sister? you know?...

this is also just because i wanted an excuse to mention that kanon is VERY autistic to me. you see what i mean right. ok bye)
