Maybe that's just me but I feel like a fandom event that requires a personal invitation to participate isn't really a fandom event.

It's a peer project. And there's nothing wrong with that just... Don't sell it as a fandom event if not everyone can take part.

People will get interested and check it out and be disappointed to learn they're not invited. It's the opposite of what fandom as a community stands for.

By the time they get to the quarry Billy's hand is nearly on Steve's crotch and the only thing preventing it from ignoring everything else and getting there is Carol kicking at the back of his seat demanding to be let out.

Dandelion Wishes - Chapter 15 of 15- Grow

Billy is not sure when it starts. Somehow carrying the little pot around with him just naturally morphs into talking to it like Steve is here and can hear him. He tells Steve about his day, things he has read, looking for a job, all of the mundane little things he can think of. 

On the rare occasions he does not have Steve right in his hands, Franklin will sometimes say something to the plant in private, begging for his son to return. Annette doesn't care if Billy is holding him, she will lean down face level with the slowly growing sprout and tell him things. There are a lot of “I love you” and “I miss you” and the occasional desperate plea of “please come back my little dandelion” that make Billy’s chest ache. 

Billy begs too, just at night when everyone else is asleep and the moon is the only thing letting him see the sprout. Tears rolling down his face as he kneels in front of the night stand, cheek pressed against it as he stares longingly. “Please come back to me. I’m sorry I pushed you away before. I just wanted you to be safe. I need you back, you’re supposed to stay with me forever, remember. You promised.” 

Billy has not missed anyone like this since his mother, and that thought just makes the tears come harder.

What Matt Mullenweg is doing right now, partnering with Midjourney and Open AI, is finally the real beginning of the end of tumblr.

Make no mistake. He hasn't managed to make the site profitable and like any businessman he's decided to not lose money any longer and simply euthanize the lame horse.

The fact that tumblr already scraped an “initial data dump” containing “all Tumblr’s public post content between 2014 and 2023 before even rolling out the toggle means that what he's doing right now is gathering and selling the site's assets (a decade worth of user content) before ultimately liquidating the unprofitable business.

There's no doubt he'll sell to LLM companies next.

And maybe the end won't come tomorrow and maybe we won't lose each other immediately but this move means that Automattic doesn't believe tumblr has a future. That the only thing valuable about it is the data we have generated in the past.

This is a sad day, guys.

Dandelion Wishes

“Billy?” Loraine asks, voice raspy and tired, drawing his attention from staring out the window at the blurring scenery. He ignores her, tucking his hands in against his ribs tightening them like a hug, bottom lip jutting out. “Don’t be like that sunshine,” she reaches a thin hand out and brushes his cheek, sighing when he pulls away from the touch. 

Things have been good. His mom was tired but they are together just the two of them. Billy thought, hoped this was going to be how it was from now on, just the two of them on the road traveling from town to town taking in the sites. A trunk full of knickknacks and t-shirts from all of the little tourist destinations they have stopped at along the way. 

It doesn’t last though. The good time is coming to an end just like Billy knew it would. Just because he knows it is coming doesn't mean he is happy about it. She is leaving him, sending him to live with his father as she loses the battle against her ailing body. She is not just leaving him for a little while this time. She might not be coming back and Billy will be stuck with Neil.

“Sunshine, talk to me,” Loraine tries again, the wind coming in from the open windows bringing the scent of wildflowers as it whips their hair around their faces. Billy’s throat is tight, eyes wet, bottom lip wobbling as he shakes his head. The scenery out the window is still blurry even as the car slows down, pulling off on a patch of worn down grass, paths worn from tire treads soft and brown. “Baby I’m sorry. If I could stay with you I would.”

Billy gives a big sniff, nose dripping as a fat tear rolls down his cheek. Lorain puts the car in park, turning the key to cut the engine but leaving the radio playing softly. “Billy. I’m sorry.” She wipes the tear from his cheek and unbuckles his seat belt, pulling him into a hug as best she can with the stick shift between them. “I wish I could be with you always.”

I got that ST deck and it's fascinating that they decided to make Eddie and Billy have a combination card. They are the only ones in the deck that had that.

I know the company is not in any way relative to the ST crew but it sort of gives that symbolism that both Billy & Eddie having represented a similar place in the show.
