Okay no, I’m not done talking about Danger Day’s changes because I’m Insane About Danger Days As An Album And Concept:
All the missing bits from the original version of Danger Days (“Look Alive, Sunshine”, the japanese in “Party Poison” {<- not you, you STILL don’t make complete sense even with my explanation}, “Jet Star and the Kobra Kid”, “Goodnite Dr. Death”)… kinda makes sense from a broader point of view on what music is now vs in 2013.
I’m thinking overall about HOW this album was presented back then and how it’s presented now. In 2013, it made sense for the whole vibe to be radio-focused because what else would you expect to be used in a post-apocalyptic desert world for communication? It was also the introduction of a whole world built into an album that was wildly different from the stuff MCR had put out before. It was meant to stand out, and yes I know that MCR’s discography originally didn’t plan on anything past Black Parade, but it was still in line with what MCR played with in both Revenge and Black Parade. Danger Day’s radio emphasis hit that nostalgia of those who grew up on the radio and played into the idea of the old days as a whole theme in the album.
But now? It’s the streaming era. Radio is secondary. Most cars have bluetooth or a jack to plug in your phone. Most of my friends haven’t heard the radio for most of their lives. I know I play my music if I have the chance.
Yes, would I have LOVED to have every part of the album unchanged and still THERE? Absolutely. But does it REALLY make sense for the remastered album that came out (became accessible) first on streaming platforms to keep the bits that:
- Are often skipped by listeners (I’m guilty of this)
- Aren’t a song rather than a thematic addition that’s now been around for 16 years
- “Take away” from the seamless transitions expected of streaming music nowadays (no it doesn’t take anything away but Money Talks so HEAVY emphasis on those quotation marks)
In my opinion, no. Do I HATE that they neutered “Party Poison”? Absolutely. Does it make sense to me on a capitalistic, money-driven industry standard way? Unfortunately.
Which. Y’know. Nowadays with everything we’ve seen. Well.
But hey I’m just yapping, we got FTWWW and Mad Gear and Missile Kid in there as a bonus.
