Christine tells Gabriel she is going home for the holidays. She also subconsciously gives a sign that she may be opening up to the idea of the archangel... and it doesn't go unnoticed by either of them.

Christine moved through the isles of the Kroger, going through the list on her phone.
She had gotten used to not shopping for food since Gabriel promptly snapped up anything she wanted. But cabin fever was in fact a thing, and if anything else, browsing the discount basket at the local market was just entertaining enough.
Chris casually sorted through the vitamin gummies, out of date dvd's, and upcoming holiday merchandise. Amongst the disorganized clutter, she absently picked up a little red Christmas hat. Her head tilted a bit as she lazily jingled the little bell at the end of the pointed cap... then it dawned on her.
She was traveling back home for the holidays.
And how the hell was she supposed to hide her feathery shadow of a stalker?
Chris dropped the hat back in the bend and rubbed her arms nervously. She quickly moved to check the isles closest to her to make sure they were vacant before closing her eyes and crunching her brows.
"Gabriel?" She whispered. "I need to talk to you about something."
The air shifted ever so slightly with the faint sound of fluttering feathers. "Yes, my lady?"
Chris opened her eyes to see Gabriel standing in front of her, obviously pleased she had prayed to him.
He was always tuned into her subconscious in case of emergencies... and just out of pure interest.
"I was thinking..."
"That's dangerous." He quickly quipped in, earning an icy glare.
"I was thinking about the holidays coming up."
"Ah, yes." He said, picking up a cheep looking ornament from the bend and examining it half heartedly. "Christmas. Second favorite holiday... besides halloween of corse. Surgery treats and cozy nights in buy the fire." He smirked suggestively at her.
"Gabriel. I'm going back home for the holidays." She said.
Gabriel tossed the ornament back, giving his full attention to her. "And? That's usually what all students do, isn't it?"
"Well, yeah... but ... what about you?" She asked nervously.
"Hmmm... how about, 'Mom, Dad, this is Gabriel, my boyfriend. I couldn't bare to leave him over the break, so Iv broaght him along to be apart of the family.'" He mocked in a high pitched voice.
"Gabriel!" She exclaimed, punching him in the arm. "This is exactly why I called you." She huffed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Aw come on. It'll be fun! I'd love to meet the future in-laws." He winked.
"This is not a good idea... how am I supposed to explain you... this is a bad idea-"
"Look. No jokes here. I promise not to give you any trouble. Can I please spend Christmas with you?"
Christine rolled her eyes to look him in the admiringly somber looking face.
"Even if I said no you'd still show up, am I right?"
"Right as rain, sugar."
"You could at least help me with this stuff." Christine said, fumbling with the plastic bags in her arms while using her key to unlock the door to her apartment.
"You could have just made two trips." He commented, eyeing the number of bags she had strung on each arm.
"Two trips are for wusses." She returned, nudging the door open with her foot and hauled the bags to the kitchen.
Gabriel just stood out side on the mat with an odd expression.
"Gabriel?" She called, looking around the corner from her kitchen when he didn't respond.
He just stood there out side apartment with the door wide open.
"You coming in? You're letting the heat out you doof."
Gabriel slowly walked inside and carefully shut the door.
"What's you deal? You alright?" She asked as she unloaded the bags. This behavior really wasn't like him.
He almost seemed... confused?
"Nothing... it's just."
"Just what?"
"You left the door open."
Chris paused. She turned her head to better see him in the dining room, only just beginning to understand what he meant.
"Ok? What about it?"
"You just... you always shut the door. And this time you left it open."
Christine's chest tightened at what he was saying. He was right. For months now it had practically been a daily routine of him walking her in from where ever, her shutting the door defiantly in his face, only for him to instantly reappear inside.
Except this time... she left the door open for him.
"Huh... yeah..." She said skeptical of her response.
"I guess I did."

Christine woke up in the middle of the night to pee and get a glass of water.
After doing her business, she quietly padded her way to her kitchen, but was halted in her tracks by a peculiar sight.
Sitting in her living room, his head flopped back against the back of the couch, was Gabriel.
It wasn't strange in the sense that he was there (he was always there) ... but that he appeared to be asleep.
Wide awake with intrigue, Christine found herself moving slowly towards him. Her bare feet easily creeping quietly on the rug with calculated steps.
His his mouth was slightly agape, and his chest rose and fell at a deep, steady pace. All evidence clearly showing that he was in fact asleep.
But that just didn't seem right.
Gabriel's was an angel. And she was sure that he had told her before that sleep wasn't necessary for him.
He seemed so peaceful. No smug glint twisting at his featured, his thin lips resting comfortably apart. His usually long, swept back hair was partially dangling off the back of the sofa.
Deep in thought, Christine hardly even registered her hand reaching out to move an out of place lock of hair. But the moment her finger made contact with his cheek, she felt an over whelming sensation rush through her chest, and she no longer felt inside her body.
When reality stopped spinning, Chris was able to register her surroundings quite clearly. The room she was no longer her apartment, but a large suit of some sort.
The floor was a bold black and white checked print, and the room itself was filled with tacky looking retro style furnishing.
Deaf Leapard's poor some sugar on me blasted through the suit, and the lights noticeably dimmed. The only real thing illuminating the room were the massively framed posters of playboy models that decorated the walls.
Christine picked herself up off the floor and stumbled around for a bit until she took a good notice of the main room.
And Chris had to do a double take.
A strip pole stood in the middle of the room with a dancer in a black, lacy get up topped off with massively tall stiletto heels.
But what Christine found so bewildering, was the fact that the dancer looked almost exactly like her with a few exceptions.
The dancer shared the same hair and features, but she was much taller then herself, and wore far more make up then Chris had ever had on her own face in a life time.
Christine's attention turned to the large, red velvet chair that sat directly in front of the little show. And sure as hell, there sat Gabriel. He lounged comfortably, munching away at a snickers bar.
She found herself staring daggers into the back of his head. She wasn't necessarily angry... Just... Extremely annoyed. She felt her cheeks burn red as she watched her practical twin move about the strip pole, and she honestly fought the urge to run over there and rap her up in a blanked or something, away from watching eyes.
After watching long enough, Christine gritted her teeth and marched straight up beside the dancer, causing her to look just as confused as she was.
Gabriel looked comically the most confused of all, his mouth hanging open mid chew.
He just stared between the two Christine's standing before him, one looking so peeved off that it couldn't have not been the real her.
She stood with her hands on her hips and one brow raised in a scolding manner.
"Seriously? I am not this tall Gabriel, what the hell?!" She whined, gesturing to the dancer beside her.
"Christine? How are you-"
"You where asleep on my couch... And that's another thing. I thought angels didn't sleep."
"No, I said I didn't need to. I personally find dreaming to be pretty enjoyable." Winking at the dancer who blew him a kiss back.
"Obviously." She deadpanned.
"So? What do you think?" He asked with a smile on is face, gesturing to the room around him.
"I think it's tacky and looks like the set of a cheep porno. Though... I'm not really surprised that this is the kinda crap you dream about." She turned to look the dancer up in down who returned the favor with a suggesting expression.
"Cheep? Aw no babe, I only get involved in top dollar pornos." He chuckled, his eyes crinkling from his widening smile. "Anyway, want something to eat?" He snapped, standing up from his velvety chair and stretch with a groan. He snapped his fingers and the dancer vanished in a whispy cloud. He made his way to the kitchen that was now stalked full of an impressive assortment of sweets.
Christine took quick notice of his tight fitting wife beater and short pair of red silk boxers. She watched him examine the table carefully before swiping his finger across a dollop of whips cream and bringing it to his mouth. "You'v gotta try this." His eyes rolling back at the taste of the treat.
"No thanks. Sugar'll give you nightmares." She scolded lightly.
"Is that right? Well Iv never had an issue with it."
He disappeared from where he stood in the kitchen and reappeared directly in front of Chris, who let out a surprised gasp and squared up ready to punch him, but before she could, he booped a finger full of whipped cream on her nose before zapping safely out of reach.
Gabriel personally found it extremely adorable how she momentarily crossed her eyes in attempt to examine the mess on her face.
Christine Davis was an unplanned, and unwanted nuisance in his life that took up way too much of his time. It was her own damn fault she attracted him like a magnate... Might as well mess with her to amuse himself.
"Gah, Gabriel!" She whined in annoyance, whipping the white fluff from her nose, causing her hands to dry sticky.
"Need some help? I could always lick it off-"
"In your dreams." She shot back, only noticing her mistake when she saw an unsettling look come across Gabe's features. His mouth twisted in a smug grin and his eyebrow quirked up suggestively. "Alright sugar... If you insist-"
"Wait. No no no... I didn't mean-" she quickly added. "Quit that."
"Quit what?"
"Looking at me like that." She pointed a finger at him.
"Looking at you like what?" He winked, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Gabriel!" She snapped.
"Alright alright princess, geez." He chuckled.
The two stood in silence, his gaze on her making her wiggle with discomfort.
"How are you here?" He asked, more to himself then her.
"I was going to ask you that." She folded her arms against her chest.
"You said I was asleep on your couch?" He continued, moving in her direction.
"Yeah."
"An did you happen to... touch me?" He choked down a laugh at the sight of her face burning red up to her ears.
"W-well.... I mean yeah, I-I was trying to wake you up." She stammered.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why did you try to wake me up? Did you need something?" He intaragated, knowing good and well that he had her cornered.
She opened her mouth to snap her excuse, but the sickening fact was... was she didn't have an excuse at all.
He was a few feet away now, and Christine fought the urge to step back.
"I was just..."
"You just wanted to touch me?" He couldn't control the amusement out of his voice as he watched her look everywhere but at him.
"No!" She shot at him quickly and a little too loudly. "I just... I was making sure you were ok. Like I said... I didn't know angels could sleep." She hated the excuse the moment it left her mouth. It made it sound like she cared about him.
"Aw shucks. You were worried about me?" He teased, stepping closer. This time Christine did take a step back. Her features developing that of more then annoyance.
"Ok, fine. I'll lay off." He said, raising his hands up. "It's not nice to tease a girl about her crush."
She narrowed her eyes deeply and reared up to start a yelling match with him. "Excuse m-"
He swiped his finger through the air and cut off her voice, earning an annoyed and confused glared aimed his way. "Take a chill pill honey. I'm only teasing." This did nothing to ease the glare.
"Given the bed head it must still be early. Time to go back to bed. You'v got school tomorrow." He reached up and snapped his fingers.
Christine surged up off the couch with a rush in her chest.
Gabriel still sat on the couch, groggily looking down at her as she picked herself up out of the uncomfortable looking position she was in beside him.
"Stay outa my head kid." He warned gently as she stood to shuffle back to her own room.
"Then stay out of mine." She shot back over her shoulder.
Gabriel's stomach did a flip flop at her words.
He hadn't visited her dreams in weeks.

With a regular scedual of a jam packed busy week, Sundays were Christine’s only real day off. No work and no school haliluja. She usually utilized the time off by running errands, catching up on homework, and or other personal projects. But the crown jewel of treats on her Sunday scedual was the hours of extra sleep she got in the morning. Chris could easily go days with little to no sleep, but on Sunday, all the lost hours were to be caught up.So one could probably imaging her dismay when at 6 in the morning, she was jolted from her slumber by booming music. Redbone’s come and get your love was blaring through her apartment at an ungodly volume. Chris held tight to her chest as to calm her pounding heart, and her eyes struggled to fight against the morning light coming in from her window.
She rolled out from under the warmth of her covers and stumbled barefoot into the living room, trying hard to find the source of the music. “Morning sugar!” Gabe called over the tune from the kitchen. Seeing as the song had successfully gotten her out of bed, he lowered the volume slightly.
Christ rolled her eyes and shuffled her way into the kitchen to find Gabe leaning against the counter with a big glass of chocolate milk in hand.
Lining the counter behind him was a wide array of sugary looking breakfast foods. Pancakes, muffins, cinnamon buns, donuts, and at least a dozen boxes of poor tarts. “Happy day off. Hope you’re hungry.” He turned to beam at his creation. “Gabriel. It’s 6 freaking a.m.. This couldn’t have waited?” She groaned. “Spare me the daggers toots and grab some brekky.” He moved aside to let her swipe a muffin and watched her slowly make her way to the living room.
She plopped down on the sofa and began eating, trying her very best to keep her eyes open and her head from bobbing.
Chris watched Gabriel steadily pace around her apartment, thoughtfully munching on a cinnamon bun. He had studied her living space countless times before, but found himself drawn to a particular little wall shelf that always caught his attention.
“Is this your family?” He asked, pointing to the shelf. Christine rolled her head lazily to the side to see where he was looking. “Oh. Yeah, that’s them.” She confirmed less then enthusiastic. Gabe studied the photos. One was of a young man and woman sitting on a porch swing holding a toddler between them, who he could only guess was Christine.
The second picture looked professionally taken with a considerably older and unhappy looking Christine and her parents, but with five more younger looking kids around them. All of them wearing matching sweaters and forced smiles.
The third and last picture was of Christine in a navy colored cap and gown, proudly holding a high school diploma. All five of the kids gathered around her with thumbs up. “These are all your siblings?” He asked dumbfounded. “Yep. Every one of them.” “I guess I’m not the only one who came from a big family.” He teased.
Chris offered a tiered smile.
“I got out just in time for the twins to hit their teenage years. Thank God.” “What’s their names?” He continued, turning to look at her. Chris took a deep breath, closing her eyes and resting her head on the back of the couch. “Well… I’m the oldest. Then there’s Cameron who is a senior, Carter is a sophomore, Logan is finishing up middle school , and the youngest are the twins, Hailey and Hannah who are I think in fifth grade.” She listed off. “Damn. Your parents stayed busy.” He joked, but elicited a bitter snort from Chris. “Yeah right. More like does their own thing while me and Cam busted out asses raising them all.” She said bitterly, opening her eyes to see Gabriel’s look of sympathy. “I mean, don’t get me wrong… I love every one of them. It’s just… It shouldn’t have been my responsibility when I was struggling with staying in the top five and work a job I hated…” She paused trying to find her point. “And your folks should’ve pulled their weight?” Gabriel added.Christ shook her head absently. “I don’t even think it’s that. They handled them as well as any parents with six kids could… and I don’t wanna say they should have stopped, but…. and I get this sounds so selfish of me but screw it. Im just grateful to be out. To have this place and to have the job I do.” Gabriel knew what she was dancing around. It is a big part of the reason why he made her so nervous. She saw him as a direct threat to all she had worked for. The banana peel on the side walk.
She couldn’t risk a slip up, or give into any distractions.“You’re right, that does sound selfish.” He deadpanned. Chris shot him a surprised and angry glare.
Gabe laughed aloud and held his hands up in defense. “I’m kidding, geez.”
“But I agree with you. And not just cuz I’m trying to get on your good side. That is a lot to handle.” Christine, pinched off a bit off muffin and fed it Molly, who had settled comfortably at her feet. “What about you?” “What about me?” “What about your family? You told me about your … brothers… What was it lik-”“What was it like growing up in heaven?” He finished with raised brows. Christine nodded. She was a bit nervous about possibly putting him in a bad mood like the first night they talked about his brothers. But it seemed fair enough… she had indulged him.“At the start it was all pretty quiet. Me and my closet four brothers were running heaven at the time, and dad had made a little hobby out of creating things besides angels. Took some trial and error, a little sugar spice and everything nice and boom. He came up with humans.”
Christine listened carefully. This info was better then anything she could read out of a text book.
“And as you already know, miss theology minor, not everybody in the family was as into his project as he was. So when he said drop everything and devote yourselves to these tiny little …things…”
Gabriel paused. “And then Lucifer.” She continued quietly. “Yeah. Lusifer happened.” His distant eyes seemed to come back to earth a bit, obviously making an effort to keep this casual.
“The family drama has been off and on since the beginning… Like with most families. But…” “But what?” Chris pressed.Gabriel rubbed at the back of his neck. “Dad up and left and has been gone for a while now, and it’s all gotten pretty out of whack.” “Wait… wait a sec. So… God is missing?” “Yup, or he was. But heaven still isn’t exactly out of the shitter yet.” “Is that why you’re…”“Is that why I left? That’s a big part of it. A few molinias ago I got sick of it all. So I dropped and went under witness protection as a pagan.” “A pagan?” This got her attention. Christian lore wasn’t the only thing her degree covered.“A trickster. You'v heard of Loki.” “From Norse mythology, yeah. That’s you?” She asked, trying very hard to keep the excitement of of her tone. Who else but her could know that the messenger archangel Gabriel and Loki the mischief god were the same person?!“Guilty.” He flashed her a grin. “But now, even being a trickster would draw to much attention. Iv been romping in and out of pocket universes of my own creation as a human.” He explained. “And you… don’t mind living with humans? You said a lot of the angels didn’t seem to like us all that much.” She trailed off. “Well, it’s like with you and your siblings. You didn’t ask for the rograts to be made in the first place. You love them, but it’s still a responsibility you didn’t ask for.” Christine thought about this, and it made since. It was strange, hearing her life being compared to that of a celestial beings.“For me personally…. For a long time, I didn’t really see the point of humans. They seemed to have to many issues to be worth all my time and all my dad’s love.”
Christine turned her gaze up at him to see him looking back at her pictures.
“But eventually, and especially recently… Iv come to see the beauty in them."

After that night at the bar, Gabriel personally escorted/zapped Christine safely back to her apartment after the cops had detained the student.
With much to Christine's disapproving, Gabriel had planted himself on her couch and refused to leave for that night. "Ain't no mountain high, and no valley low sugar. I'm stayin put." He proclaimed, casually resting his hands behind his head. He had been lucky that Chris was able to take care of herself that night... and lucky for that dick bag student that she had handled it and not himself. The kid would have surely not made it out of that encounter alive.
Christine let out an exasperated groan and rubbed hard at her eyes. "Fine. Just... stay the hell out of my room." She ordered.
He watch as she dragged herself into the bathroom, shoulders lax and head bobbing. It was apparent that the full day of school, work, a night on the town, and beating the crap out of a drunk frat boy had taken an obvious toll.
He eagerly listens as the shower was flipped on and after a few minutes of steady water flow went by, his ears perkin up at the familiar sound of singing.
Gabe smile to himself. Singing in the shower was a habit of Christine's he had picked up on soon after hanging around her apartment the first week, and the little shows had quickly become one of his favorite things to listen to. Her little performance was always the highlight of his evening, and the perfect way to close the day. Her time in the shower was pretty much the only time (sans her dreams) that she let her guard down and let loose. Either she had forgotten about him being there, or she thought he couldn't hear. He often wondered how she was able to keep up such a visaed for as long as she did. Living such a busy life with an attitude like hers couldn't possibly be anything but miserable.
He enjoyed her wide array of humming, whistling, and strait belting quite an eclectic array of music.
She wasn't the best singer ever by any stretch, but that only added to the comical charm.
Tonight, he could pick out lyrics from Aint No Mountain High Enough, and the archangel couldn't help but feel pleased with himself that his little quip earlier had made some kind of impression.
"If you ever need a helping hand... I'll be there on the double just as fast as I-"
THUD!
Her voice had been cut off mid lyric with a faint yelp.
Gabriel shot up from his place on the couch "Chris?" He called. A groan was all the response he got.
When he flashed into the bathroom, he took no time at flinging the shower curtain back, eliciting a scream from a rather mortified looking Christine. "Gabriel get out!" And much like usual and to her annoyance, he ignored her.
Christine was laying down in a rather uncomfortable looking position in the bottom tub, her hands clutching at her left knee which was quickly turning a deep purple.
"You beat the crap out of a grown man tonight but couldn't sing and shower at the same time?"
"GET OUT!" She screamed angrily up at him.
"And how are you gonna get out of there if I do? Seriously, can you even get up to turn the water off?"
She responded by chucking a bottle of conditioner at him.
Gabriel rolled his eyes. He knew she was stubborn enough at she would gladly wait there in that tub until her leg fell off or one of her coworkers took serious notice of her absence. Her obvious embarrassment only filed the anger that barricaded her shields.
"You're impossible." He grumbled, turning the shower off and tossing a towel over her. "Come on, lemme have a look."
He didn't wait for her to protest as he sat on the edge of the tub. Christine shrinker away from him with a scowl, but obviously couldn't get far. Gabe swatted her hands away and he gently gripped under her knee. He couldn't help the unease in his heart as she let out a pained cry at his touch, feeling her joint crumble in an unnatural way.
"Yup, you shattered your knee." He announced. "Multiple surgeries, weeks of physical therapy, and over a year with leg braces."
Christine's heart fell into her gut at his prognosis. "Or..." He reached out to place two fingers on her forehead.
A familiar warmth heated up in Chris's knee before the pain disappeared completely. Memories of her crash resurfacing.
She just stared dumb founded at her perfectly healthy leg that was broken and purple just a moment ago, then looked up to meet the face of a smug looking angel.
"You're welcome. Feel free to express your gratitude with a kiss, or any other way you'd like." He winked.
He could see she was fighting back a grateful smile as the corners of her mouth twitched ever so slightly.
Christine agrees to a night out on the town, but something happens.

“Girl, why don’t you ever go out?” Sarah whined as she put away her lab work.
It had been a week since Gabriel had snuck into her bedroom, and thankfully he hadn’t pulled anything like it again. It was the following weekend, and Christine was not looking forward to going home for once.
“You know going out isn’t really my thing.” She countered casually, gathering up her own paper work.
“It’s Saturday night Chris! Come on. Just this once, come to Rovers with me.” Sarah begged.
“Rovers?” Christine wrinkled her nose. “That seedy bar down on Maple street?”
“That’s the one.” Sarah smirked. “You’ve got no excuse here Chris. Your lab work is finished, and you already told me you finished your homework. You’re free as a bird tonight. Come on!”
Chris bit her lip in contemplation. She had never really been out before. She wasn’t much of a drinker, or a people person at all for that matter. How much fun could she really have? A night with Molly and Netflix sounded like the ticket… but a night without the feathered pain in the ass sounded even better.
Chris looked over to her friend who was practically pulling a full blown puppy dog eyes assault on her.
She let out a groan and threw her hands up. “Fine… but I’m not changing out of my jeans and t-shirt.” She said stubbornly.
Sarah did a mini touchdown dance in victory, making Chris giggle though her stoic pout.
Rovers bar was a dank little hole in the wall place that most every Trinity West student flocked to at least once a week.
An tv and a couple of pool tables was all it took to keep the kids occupied until last call.
Christine sat uncomfortably at the bar, a little dish of peanuts sitting in front of her completely untouched.
She watched Sarah flirt shamelessly with some senior frat boys at one of the pool tables. She almost seemed an expert the way she strung the guys along with her big doe eyes and fake laughter.
Chris really wasn’t surprised she had gotten ditched.
She wasn’t lying when she said that going out just wasn’t her thing. Writing an eight page long research essays seem easier and less daunting then small talk.
“Well hello beautiful.” An unfamiliar voice greeted from behind her. She pivoted around a little in her stood and met the guy with an unfriendly glare… which did nothing to deter him.
He was a smug looking frat boy who couldn’t have been older than a sophomore. He wore a nasty smirk on his face and held a bear in one hand. He honestly seemed the very definition of a cassis meat headed horn dog kinda guy. He leaned an elbow on the bar a bit too close for Christie’s liking.
“Haven’t seen you around here before. And I’d remember a face like yours.”
Christine rolled her eyes popped a few peanuts in her mouth.
“You have no idea how that laying it on thick act really does it for me.” She shot dryly.
“Aw come on babe-”
“And you can loose the pet names while you’re at it.”
“Bitch it is then.” He growled to himself before pushing off the bar and stomping away.
Christine inwardly grinned to herself at her success. But the celebration was short lived.
“Cutting them strait to the heart sugar. That’s my girl.”
That voice. Of cores he’d find her.
Christine spun fully around to see Gabriel with a please smile on his face. “Why didn’t you tell me you were going out?” He snapped his fingers and two pina coladas appeared on the bar in front of her.
“Gee, I wonder why I didn’t tell my angelic, super stalker I was going out.” She grinned sarcastically. “It was a last minute thing. Sarah made me.” Christine gestured to her friend at the pool tables.
“Remind me to thank her.” He said happily, sipping at his drink.
“I can’t believe I even came here. This is so not my kinda thing. I could be home right now doing something productive.” She ranted, stirring the straw in her own drink.
Gabriel just stared at her with a quirked brow, thinking back to that kid Greg he had met at the same bar. “You need a hard drink or an orgasm worst than anybody Iv ever met. And Iv met a lot of people.”
“Excuse me?” She snapped, the blush on her face practically reaching her ears.
“I mean seriously. You’re a college student, it’s Saturday night, and you’d rathe be at home with your cat.”
“Im mature for my age.” She defended.
“Mature? Yeah… like 23 going on 50.”
Christine glared at him before rubbing her tiered eyes with her fingers.
“I just… I really don’t enjoy this scene. I mean the trash music and the meat headed students…”
“Not smart enough to talk to?”
“I didn’t say that! I’m just… I find it hard to find anything to relate to. It’s difficult talking to them.”
“Do you find it hard talking to me?” He asked.
Christine looked at him with a tiered expression. The evening had stressed her enough that she didn’t feel like having that particular conversation.
“I’m going home, Gabriel. Goodnight.” She scooted herself off her stool, and Gabe watcher her as she made her way out the front door.
The night was hot and quiet.
The music from inside the bar was muffled out in the dimly lit parking lot. Christine did her very best to ignore the nagging voice of her inner thoughts as they repeated an unspoken/unwanted a answer.
It was way to easy to talk to Gabe. For what ever reason, between the arguing and quips between them, the banter was surprisingly comfortable. But she could never give him the satisfaction of telling him so.
Christine fumbled in her purse to find the keys to her moped when an arm seized around her front, pulling her slush to its owner, and a hand came down hard over her mouth.
“Don’t scream.” He warned. The voice belonged to the sophomore from before. “You’re gonna do exactly what I say or I’m going to hurt you very very-”
“Christine!” She heard Gabriel shout from somewhere close by.
Before Gabriel could jump into action, he watched as Christine step around her attacker, causing him to stumble just long enough for her to whip out a can of mace and spray him strait in the eyes. When the can was empty, she drove it into his face. The guy fell to the grown with a cry. He held his swollen face an bleeding nose, wailing to himself.
Christine was breathing heavily, her bloody can of mace still fisted in her hand. She looked up to see a bewildered looking Gabriel watching her in amazement.
“Don’t just stand there. Call the cops.” She snapped.

basic summary of story: Gabriel never thought what went down with a few lowly angels in the old days would ever happen to him. But what happens when during his hiding (after he had convinced heaven he was finally dead) a particular theology student at Trinity West University catches his interest… and she isn’t exactly overjoyed at the new attention.
The next day was just a glimpse into the insanity that would soon become the norm of Christine’s life.
She hadn’t slept well at all the night after her first real visit with Gabriel. So when she droned her way into her kitchen to grab an equate, she almost didn’t notice the cupcake on her counter with a note beside it that read

She frowned at the sight of it and left it where it sat.
When she got to school, she was pretty surprised that she didn’t see Gabriel once. Which didn’t make a difference because she was paranoid the entire day.
She was lucky enough to get off work before 6, which meant she could make the drive back home while it was still daylight out.
The events of the crash still making any trip at night a bit more daunting then it had been before.
Once at Cherry Crest, she as always, struggled to juggle her books and bags as she worked to unlock her door.
“Need a hand?”
Gabriel threw his head back in laughter when Christine nearly jumped out of her skin, dropping almost everything she was working so hard to carry.
“Good to see you too.” He winked, bending down to pick up her things.
She quickly snatched them from him, and ran into her apartment, closing the door in his face.
But when she turned around, she ran directly into him, once again dropping her things.
She let out a proper yell, and clocked him in the jaw… which did nothing but break her own hand again, causing her to scream out in pain.
“Damn it Chris, you'v got to stop doing that.” He scolded, trying to keep in his laughter.
She felt his fingers at her forehead and the pain subsides in an instant.
“Then don’t just pop up places!” She shot back, clearly angry and a tad embarrassed.
“Well how else am I supposed to get in and spend time with you?” He said, walking to her kitchen, stealing a kiss on the cheek as he passed.
She quickly swung at him again but missed as he picked up the pace.
“You didn’t eat the cupcake I left you.” He commented.
“No, I didn’t.”
“How come?” He asked, picking it up and eating it himself.
Christine grabbed her things and moved into the living room.
“Because I wasn’t in the mood for a cupcake. Especially one given from you.” Her tone was harsher then she had intended for it to be.
Gabriel watched in silence as Christine settled down onto the floor between the couch and table, unloading book after book and multiple journals onto her coffee table and spread them out in a specific order only she understood.
Gabriel moved to sit on the couch and watched her silently scar over the pages.
It wasn’t even two minutes later when Christine let out an audible huff, turning her attention from her work. “Do you mind?”
“Not at all.” He countered with a mouth full of cupcake. “What are you studying?”
“Stuff.”
“What kind of stuff?”
“None of your damn business!” She shot.
“Touchy touchy.”
“I am not touchy.”
“Sugar, you’re in danger of exploding. You should destress or something.”
Christine felt a pair of hands slowly snake their way to her shoulders. Evasive maneuvering the hell out of dodge, she stood suddenly and hopped out of reach.
“You know what? You’re right. I’m gonna take a shower. Feel free to let yourself out.” She said quickly, practically running to her bathroom.
Gabriel just sat there on the couch chuckling to himself.
Why was it that he always fell for the hard to get type.
It had been a week of these visits after school.
Gabriel would help her with the door.
She’d shut it in his face.
He’d reappear in her apartment to lounge in her living room for a few hours making small commentary here and there, watching her study until she was ready to start her bedtime routine, and he would promptly leave.
It was Friday night, and after much bickering, Christine finally shut Gabriel up about going out to town.
She sat in her bed with the sheets over her head, the flashlight on her phone providing light to read the book she held in her lap.
So her stalker said his name was Gabe, and he was an archangel. It didn’t take a degree in theology to put the pieces together.
Every night that week she had spent an hour before sleep reading up on books of biblical lore and the messenger archangel Gabriel, along with any sort of information regarding the Genesis 6:2 passage.
Christine was just aware enough to hear a slight creak in the wood floor and the subtle sound of breathing in her room.
She had all but stopped breathing and freezes, assessing what to do. There was an intruder. Should she scream? Stay still? Act like she were asleep?
In the midst of processing her options, the sheet was lifted quickly from her over her head and she let out a scream. She didn’t even notice the book being taken from her hands.
Realizing nobody had shot her, she opened her eyes to see Gabriel standing by her bed, book in hand.
“G-Gabe?” She stuttered between labored breathing.
“Are you researching me?” He gestured to the book, features set in a smug smile.
“What the hell are you doing in my room?!” She screamed, scrambling out of bed.
In the heat of the moment, she had forgotten she was only waring a tshirt and a pair of undies… Which did not go unnoticed by Gabe.
“I heard you thinking about me.” He winked, wiggling his eyebrows teasingly. “I wondered why you never indulge me on your studies. But really? You’re researching me?” He snapped his fingers and her bed side lamp came on, illuminating the room better than her phone could.
“You could have just asked me what you wanted to know.”
Christine sat back down on the edge of her bed and tried to hide the small blush in her face.
“I didn’t figure I’d bother you with it.” She lied.
“You don’t trust me.” He said more as a statement then a question.
Christine felt a pang of guilt, but was quickly squashed and went on defense. “Do you blame me?! I mean come on. An angel? You aren’t supposed to exist. And you just pop up and drop the I’m in love with you bomb… I don’t know what to believe. So I did the research myself.”
Gabriel couldn’t blame the poor girl sitting in front of him. He understood and was impressed by her taking the matter into her own hands.
He just didn’t know how to convince her that he had hands at her disposal as well.
“Well, you seem to have gotten pretty far in this book. But Iv gotta warn you that lore isn’t as spot on as your stuffy old professors like to believe.” He sat himself down at the foot of her bed, kicking his legs up near her pillow. “In the end, these books can only portray what humans have picked up on… And no offense toots, but your kind have an uncanny ability for missing the obvious.”
She shuffled over under the sheets the opposite way, facing him.
“Ask away.” He encouraged.
“What?”
“You'v got questions, I can see in that pretty little mind of yours. Ask me.”
Christine paused and just looked at him. What did she want to know?
She leaned over the edge of her bed and plucked a spiral from her book bag and flipped through her notes.
“Alright.” She swallowed before reading through her scribbles. “You are the Gabriel in the bible, yeah? The messenger mentioned in Daniel 8:16, Luke 1:19, Luke 1:26, and Luke 1:31?”
“Yes mam.”
“All the mentions were you? So the name Gabriel isn’t a reused one… there aren’t more angels named Gabriel?” She continued.
“All me.” He winked. He felt Christine shift her weight under the comforter. In his fathers name, it was so difficult to keep this slow.
“Anything that the books got wrong?” She asked, looking up from her notes to him.
He pondered this, arms crossed.
“Archangels are described in most lore as the lowest ranking angel, just messengers. When really, it’s kinda the opposite. Me and my bros at kinda the top dogs in heaven.”
“Your brothers? Um… Michael, Zachariah, Raphael, and Lusifer?”
She felt his legs stiffen at the last name. “Yeah. Two dead and two crazy.” He grumbled to himself darkly.
It was the first time Christine had seen him anything but happy.
“I-I’m sorry.” She stuttered.
He just shrugged. “Technically, I’m supposed to be considered dead too as far as heaven and hell know. That’s why I’m laying low at the university.”
“Why do they think you’re dead?”
“Lusifer… he killed… well… He killed what he thought was me. But if word gets out that I’m still alive, heaven’ll clip my wings so to speak. They’ll never let me get to far again. And now, I say off the radar for your sake.”
“My sake? What does your hiding have to do with me?”
His expression grew serious. “You’d be a target for blackmail on both sides. Which they would pay for, obviously, but I’d really rather you not get tangled up in all of that crap.” He explained.
Christine was silent. What was she suppose to say to that? “Oh.” Was all that came out.
“Don’t worry,” he quickly added. “I wouldn’t let anything happen to you.” He said casually, leaning against the foot post.
“If you hadn’t gotten involved with me at all that wouldn’t even be a possible option.” She shot. Something inside her regretted the words the second they escaped her mouth. It was harsh and uncalled for. They were just talking. Possibly for the first time, civilly to one another.
He just looked at her. Her features almost shocked at what had come out, but her brows furrowed tightly together in an attempt to stand her ground.
“You’re right princess, it is my fault. If you get smited by an angel, or ganked by a demon, it’ll be my fault. But I seriously don’t think you realize what I’m capable of.”
She could feel him easing his way closer to her end of the bed. His eyes a deep gold that was hooded under the shadows of the dimly lit room.he almost could be considered intimidating.
Christine felt herself press harder into the headboard. His kind smile lax, and his attention fully focused on her face.
“I will never let anything on, under, or above this earth ever get to you.” His voice was low and quiet. “I can see you still have questions about me, and you. My feelings, and my….intentions. But tonight… isn’t that night sugar.” He slowly rose his hand in between them, and flicked his fingers in a snap.
Instantly, Christine slumped back into a deep, dreamless sleep.
Gabriel took in the sight of her.
He carefully eased the blankets further up her body until she was completely tucked in.
Can I have a hug please? I've had some really bad days lately. I forgot my anti-depressants and anti-anxiety 3 times. And a friend's funeral was today. I really need a hug rn. Thank you so much. I love you. ~MJ
