demonprincess:
Raven grit her teeth, nodding stiffly. again, she was right. she shifted in her bed, slipping her boots off and tucking her legs under the covers.
❝ well, all of those certainly help, but i can teleport places i don’t know the specifics of. the book referred to the Amrasin region, so we have that. the drawing isn’t great but it is some sort of image at least. as for the air… ❞ a dry chuckle escaped her and she crossed her arms.
❝ i guess there is some benefit to sharing the genes of a being who sought to take over every world in the universe and almost succeeded. i can handle any atmosphere. ❞ her voice lowered slightly, but she brushed any residual tension aside by lighting her pillar candles with her powers. the sun had started to set outside her window.
❝ say we do go there and find nothing. what then? go to every planet with similar artifacts or materials? ❞
Blackfire nodded along to Raven’s explanations, taking note of just how capable she was. Even without knowing a place, and not needing an atmosphere. Interesting. “Cool!”
As for potentially not finding anything - Blackfire really wasn’t all that worried. “Yeah that’d be my suggestion. I mean, your books mention the area, so I’m sure on one of the planets within, or very close to, it we’ll find some form of clue.”
it had been a long time since Raven had traveled to a distant planet, much less one she’s never been to before. she silently mused the pros and cons, but a vial of salt floated to her and she wrapped her fingers around it seamlessly before walking to the center of her room. that use of that kind of power didn’t go “stale”, but if something here came up when she was gone, well...it couldn’t be dealt with right away.
focusing all of her energy, she made a perfect circle with the salt and summoned candles with her magick, all of them lighting simultaneously.
❝ stand next to me, please. don’t disturb the salt, ❞ the woman instructed, beckoning with a pale hand.
continued from here with @queenofthegalaxxy !!
Raven stifled a scoff, rolling her eyes at Blackfire’s display. She knew the verbal threat not to be taken lightly, however, and let out a sigh instead. ❝ I could leave you here, and the Hive Five or some other group of lowlifes could find you and interrogate you. Or…something. I’m not here to gloat, I’m here to help. ❞
The demoness hesitated before offering one ashen colored hand to the Tameranean.
❝ take it or leave it. ❞
Well. If Blackfire would feel like she could still charge up her energy for a blast, her decision might have been different. But Raven had a point, Blackfire wasn’t exactly eager to be found this weakened by her fellow criminals - and at least a hero like Raven had some form of principles, and perhaps wouldn’t bring her into as bad situations as fellow criminals could do.
“If you insist…” Blackfire growled, but took the hand and hated how much she had to rely on Raven pulling her up. It would take a good amount of effort to hide how much everything hurt, but really, she might be better off with Raven than staying in the alley here on her own. Not that she would admit to that, of course.
❝ i do insist, ❞ she quipped nearly under her breath, clasping her wrist with one hand and grabbing the hand with her own other one as she leaned back on her heels to pull Blackfire to her feet.
Raven sighed and gave the woman a once over to assess any obvious wounds. ❝ what were you thinking, messing with them? or did they start it? ❞ she inquired, slipping an arm around her midsection and ducking her head so Blackfire’s arm rested along the empath’s shoulders.
she hadn’t a thought of where to take her, but her instinct was to go back to the Tower, so with a graceful movement of her free hand, a platform of dark energy appeared beneath their feet and whisked them off.
they landed on the roof, and Raven made sure to set the other woman down, gently. she hadn’t rushed Blackfire to answer on the way, but shot her another questioning look now, curious as to how a powerful being such as herself landed in such a vulnerable state of being.
starter for Red-X @pixelgamer07 !!
❝ X? ❞ Raven murmured, trying to identify the figure she saw jumping from the rooftop.
the empath often liked to scour Jump City at night, especially if she found it hard to sleep; so she was alone.
lifting from the ground and into the air, she hoped to catch up with the vigilante where she had seen him land at.
the empath studied him- unmoving - as he seemed to contemplate before giving the case to her. to be honest, she wasn’t expecting that outcome and now, both brows rose in tandem.
her fingers tingled when she took it, shooting him a glance as if to say: “stay right there.”
a few thoughts crossed her mind now: that the briefcase was simply a diversion for whatever Red X was really going after and she had fallen for it, or…well, there wasn’t much more. she hoped she was wrong and this wasn’t for nothing.
❝ I’m going to open it, ❞ Raven said, hoping her tone indicated he shouldn’t be planning on moving.
with a swift wave of her hand, it clicked open, and her slender fingers finding the lip of the top and lifting it open, scanning the contents with intensity.
Seeing her subtle look of surprise did bring a hidden smirk of satisfaction to X’s lips. “I’ve got nothing to hide. Especially from you.” he shot a pair of finger guns back at the look she gave him, summoning a large red x to lean against, arms up and crossed behind his head. Despite the outwardly calm and nonchalant posture, inwardly X was starting to wonder if surrendering the case had been such a good idea.
“Go right ahead. Not like I can stop you.” he stated, watching the titan open the small case. He kept his eyes on her face, studying her reaction and preparing for the onslaught of questions she might ask him. With any luck it will only be questions, he really wasn’t in the mood to tussle with Raven, especially this late in the evening.
The contense of the case where unfortunately lacking. In fact, there was almost nothing inside the small case, save for a thin, familiar shaped rectanglular object colored in red and silver. A credit card by all looks and appearences. The rest of the case was lined with a foam fitted padding, preventing any obvious hidden compartments or secrets.
“So…. you happy now?” he dryly asked her, holding out a hand to take the case back.
Raven lifted the object with gentle fingers, carefully turning it this way and that, tilting it and gazing at it with scrutiny that was hidden with great panache, save for a slight narrowing of her eyes.
❝ i guess...but what’s it for? ❞
the demoness encased the card within her palm as she awaited an answer, shifting her weight to the other foot.
demonprincess:
a shrug rolling from between narrow shoulders, Raven reached a hand up to listlessly scratch the back of her head. smoothing the hair there down flat, she then steepled her fingers to her lips while she thought.
❝ forgive me for not trusting you to leave alone with it. ❞ her tone was wry.
the Titan was used to calculated risks: fighting villains in the hopes of maintaining the balance and safety of the place she called home, managing her emotions and thus her magickal abilities, predicting Robin’s sometimes emotional outbursts…ha…but this was something utterly different and…something Raven considered out of her league.
in Nevermore, Brave pouted fiercely. ❝ you know where this is going, Rae. you can’t leave her alone with it. you are Raven! you are powerful, the daughter of the being everyone thought was destined to bring an end to the world as we know it. and you beat him. have a little fun. ❞ evidently proud of her little speech, she sat back in her orange cloak with an indignant smirk.
Raven resisted the urge to yank at the hair that framed her face, wincing instead. she was right.
jaw set, she met Backfire’s eyes.
❝ a spaceship would be far too conspicuous. we should use teleportation instead, ❞ she declared, gesturing to their find, which sat ominously between the two on her dark bedspread.
“I was alone with it before, and could absolutely do so again. Don’t make it sound like you found the thing together with me - it’s my thing, I found and own it.” She also knew that she couldn’t really just up and fly away, not against powers like Raven’s; it wouldn’t be that easy to just slip away and be on her own again when the other’s powers could quite literally wrap around you and just pull you back. Not to mention that if it really was some form of magical, Raven would probably be rather useful in understanding how this thing worked or what it did. Blackfire never had been big about magic.
“So you can teleport to places you don’t know? I was kinda assuming that you need to know how it looks, where it is, what you’re heading for - the likes.” How was she assuring that she wasn’t just teleporting into something, then? Maybe Blackfire could learn more about Raven’s powers during this whole thing, too. “Also, since I never stopped on any planet in that system, I can’t guarantee they have human-breathable atmosphere - or any at all. You able to survive without?” Because as much fun as it could be to teleport somewhere together with one of Starfire’s friends only to then find them struggling for air and failing… she could have more use from Raven being alive at the moment.
Raven grit her teeth, nodding stiffly. again, she was right. she shifted in her bed, slipping her boots off and tucking her legs under the covers.

❝ I’m going to open it, ❞ Raven said, hoping her tone indicated he shouldn’t be planning on moving.
with a swift wave of her hand, it clicked open, and her slender fingers finding the lip of the top and lifting it open, scanning the contents with intensity.
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore— While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door— “‘Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door— Only this and nothing more.”
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore— For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore— Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating, “'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door— Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;— This it is and nothing more.”
Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, “Sir,” said I, “or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore; But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping, And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door, That I scarce was sure I heard you"—here I opened wide the door;— Darkness there and nothing more.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token, And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore?” This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!"— Merely this and nothing more.
Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning, Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before. "Surely,” said I, “surely that is something at my window lattice; Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore— Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;— 'Tis the wind and nothing more!”
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore; Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he; But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door— Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door— Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore, “Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore— Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly, Though its answer little meaning—little relevancy bore; For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door— Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door, With such name as “Nevermore.”
But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour. Nothing further then he uttered—not a feather then he fluttered— Till I scarcely more than muttered “Other friends have flown before— On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.” Then the bird said “Nevermore.”
Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken, “Doubtless,” said I, “what it utters is its only stock and store Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore— Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore Of 'Never—nevermore.’”
But the Raven still beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door; Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore— What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore Meant in croaking “Nevermore.”
This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom’s core; This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining On the cushion’s velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o'er, But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o'er, She shall press, ah, nevermore!
Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor. “Wretch,” I cried, “thy God hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee Respite—respite and nepenthe, from thy memories of Lenore; Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil!— Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore, Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted— On this home by Horror haunted—tell me truly, I implore— Is there—is there balm in Gilead?—tell me—tell me, I implore!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil—prophet still, if bird or devil! By that Heaven that bends above us—by that God we both adore— Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore— Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
“Be that word our sign in parting, bird or fiend!” I shrieked, upstarting— “Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore! Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken! Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door! Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming, And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted—nevermore!
