MERMAID VERSE: Muse a is human — a pirate [if set in an older time period] or an Engineer on a science exploration team’s ship [if set in modern times], that comes across a mermaid/merman (muse b).
BACKWARDS VERSE: Muse a is hit by some kind of spell that turns them into their four year old self. Muse a ages up by four years every night [the pain of growth spurts included], and only retains the memories of their current age/truly believes they are the age they appear. Muse b has to guide them through not only the physical pain of rapid aging, but the emotional pain of reawakened memories. Memories that are sometimes best left forgotten.
DREAM VERSE: Every night, muse a falls asleep. Every night, they spend time with the same person — muse b. Every night, muse a grows a little bit closer to muse b. Until one day, muse a realizes muse b isn’t a figment of their dreams. Somehow, they’ve been communicating with a real person. And now? They’ve gotten attached. Now? They need to track them down in real life.
TREASURE HUNTERS VERSE: Muse a is a gung-ho adventure addict who always tests the limits of their physical being. Muse b as a handler/information finder back at the base, or a competing adventurer trying to reach the same prize. Think Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Relic Hunter, Warehouse 13, Indiana Jones, etc.
HOUSE OF HORROR VERSE: Our muses wake up, completely lost as to how they found themselves in what appears to be an abandoned hospital of some kind. They’re trapped, with no clear path to the exit. And there are so many rooms — so many rooms full of a new kind of danger. Something entirely new. Monsters of manipulation, of separation, sheer force and power. Don’t step into the dark. The dark is where they lurk. And they’re waiting.
