Not to go too deep into the history of Litchi Hikari Club on a joke post about getting too pretentious about Litchi Hikari Club BUT

It's true that Jaibo was played by Norimizu Ameya who was also one of two playwrights for the original stage rendition of the story. However! Original Jaibo wasn't gay. He was a very very different character and a lot more of a mastermind type. He also had an iron penis and fucked a TV.

Zera was the one obsessed with Jaibo in ways that could be homoerotic, even though Zera's actor (the real life Tsunekawa) is out on Twitter insisting day after day that the original play wasn't gay.

Contemporaries thought it was gay enough to report on it in the BL focused JUNE magazine though, which is how the then high school age mangaka Usamaru Furuya found out about it and went to see it.

The gay is entirely Furuya's addition to the plot. He really just went and made his high school OTP from that play he saw one time canon.

(Real life Ameya is, unlike Tsunekawa, very supportive of Furuya's LHC.)

Honestly, I have no idea if this story was scanlated before since I haven't paid much attention to the fandom lately, but the release of the new book drew me in... This is done with pretty basic Japanese skills and the assistance of machine translation, so there is margin for error but I am pretty confident in the translation overall!

Some fun tidbits from the 15th anniversary book interviews, also:

The model for Keikou city was Yakou City (夜光町) in Kanagawa.

Furuya on the boys' feelings about Kanon: Zera feels worship. Jaibo feels jealous and defeated. Tamiya just feels that she's just someone the same age as him.

Furuya's favourite out of Tamiya, Kaneda and Dafu is Dafu. He feels he is the realest depiction of a middle school student.

When asked if he likes Zera or Jaibo, Furuya answers that what he likes is the contrast between them. Zera who seems like iron but who has emotions that are very easy to understand and the yandere mood of Jaibo who is not easily understood by everyone - they make for a good combo.

Furuya added the element of homosexuality between Jaibo and Zera - it wasn't present in the original play. This is because Litchi Hikari Club was drawn to the tastes of his high school self, who watched a lot of Tokyo Grand Guignol and who read a lot of JUNE (a BL magazine).
