who is diavolo to you, what does he mean to you as a character. please gush about the man in full detail!!
I hope you're ready, anon.
Diavolo is a character I have a lot of complicated feelings about, which I think I've made clear for a while. I could dissect him thoroughly in multiple ways, but I also believe he was a very poorly thought-through character. He has many severe writing flaws that make him a weak character and villain, but the flaws are inherent to what makes him so compelling to me. He's my favorite aspect of Vento Aureo by far, but I also feel like the part would be better if he was a completely different character.
I also think that Diavolo is largely misunderstood by the fanbase at large, both with the overall themes and the basic facts of his character. I often have to take time to debunk misconceptions before I can even start talking about him. (I myself understood a lot of the text wrong when I was younger; my opinions about Diavolo are a lot different from even when I first started this blog.) This is a big part of why I often feel alienated from the rest of the Jojo fanbase on the subject of Diavolo.
This became so long that I realized the best way to organize it was to divide it into multiple posts. They are as follows:
Personality, Themes, Motivations and Beliefs
Why is he like that? (Identifying major issues with Diavolo’s writing)
King Crimson
Character Design
Doppio, Narrative Ableism, Misconceptions and Adaptation Differences
Doppio and Diavolo
Trish, Donatella, and the Past
Giorno and Diavolo
(Note that some of this will draw on posts I’ve already made in the past because I wanted to expand on them and put them in one cohesive place.)
