Marshal Myferae just outside the walls of Fort Integra. Art by Anarlie.
Hereâs to the Oathsworn Vanguardâs 7th anniversary!
And to a fantastic 7 more!
Situational Awareness (or the Lack Thereof)
Two of Field Marshal Integraâs finest idled their treadblades on a low precipice overlooking Aromâs Crossing. One was a void elf, clad in black plate mail with two frost-enchanted elven runeblades slung over his shoulders. The other was a stout, fire-bearded Dark Iron dwarf with a beast of a hammer at his disposal. Around them were strewn the corpses of half the half-dozen enemy soldiers that had coincidentally passed into the killing field below. As they watched, sipping from their canteens in the morning sun, their fellow Alliance warriors were cleaning up the Azerite-infused elementals unopposed.

Through the Eyes of Lieutenant Myferae
He sighed in relief as a break in the battle finally came. Like an eye of a hurricane there was more to come, so downtime was precious. Myferae looked to either side of him to note Marshal Bennas and Marshal Kingston with their catch of the day. They had been in the thick of it for a long hour or so protecting the Allied forces in Stromsong, as well as pursuing the enemy. Now his focus was on the prisoners of war, taken of the Horde for committing the cowardly act of desertion. He said a silent prayer to the light for their souls.
He pieced together the glorious silk and silver banner of the Oathsworn Vanguard that he kept with him at all times. It was assembled rather quickly, out of muscle memory by this point, though he did take care to ensure it was done properly and in a ceremonious fashion, before firmly planting it in the soggy mire of the Drowned Lands.
As the Marshals went about the field execution Myferae took the time to radio over the communicator an update to the rest of the Vanguard. âMarshal Bennas, Marshal Kingston, Sergeant Major AEGIS, and myself are unharmed here in Stormsong. We have taken seven Horde who were attempting to flee, and are dealing with them now. Please update the Field Marshal on our activity.â
As he hung up the communicator the execution was nearing completion, he looked out, scanning the hills when he fixated on something moving in from the north east. A menagerie of horde were stampeding in, rallying battle cries and loosing arrows in the Vanguards direction. The group unanimously decided it would be in their best interest to retreat to the nearby town of Deadwash rather than remain exposed. Myferae grabbed the banner staff out of the muck and cast down a shield of light in the surrounding area to buffer the arrows as they all made their way to safety.
(This is a write up of IC world PvP with @gereionkingston @theodorebennas and @aegiscyborg. While in Stormsong, crusading as we do, we took notice of several Horde players running away from the four of us, even when they outnumbered us. They eventually called in a WPvP raid to come take care of us. Crusafety is important so we tactically retreated. Gereion and Bennas also have done write ups about this event and you can check them out here Through the Eyes of Marshal Kingston, Through the Eyes of Marshal Bennas.)

Thank you Zoratrix!

Sergeant Vordas Blackspire pursued the slippery mage with relentless determination, the whispers in his brain egging him on sinisterly. He let them fill his mind, felt them grant him speed and strength beyond mortal limits. This was necessary because the Forsaken battle-mage, despite being barely more than a skeleton with a few patches of skin and meat, was quite the slippery foe. He apparently compensated for his lack of muscle mass with the ability to glide and put on brief spurts of speed in rapid succession. Vordas felt like a cat being teased with a ball of yarn, and he was determined to sink his claws into it or die trying.

Stormsong Investigation, a story by Myf (continued)
(Part III - VI)
We return to the story with a somber evening in Stormsong, the Vanguard had just witnessed an execution of innocent Tidesages, ordered by the Chancellor of the Krakens Counsel. The sun looms on the horizon as dusk falls upon the hills of Stormsong, clamoring with distant echoes of thunder. The Oathsworn Vanguard party begin their trek down the mountainside to reach the town they had just witnessed the senseless murder, -- no, massacre -- that had just taken place. Right as they get near the usual paths along the mountain, they encounter a squad of Horde patrollers.
There was a Goblin engineer that was particularly a pain in the ass. He tossed a grenade right to the feet of the party, a brave panda took it upon herself to dive over it to guard the others from the blast. It was a terribly painful blast, but thankfully all injuries sustained were not too serious and could be treated by the healers and medics on scene. Naturally the Goblin became the primary focus of the Vanguard and he didnât have the time to so much as even draw another breath. The Orc, Troll, and Forsaken soon fell under their blade as well. Curious a SinâDorei had yet to be spotted in Stormsong.. Was it the weather that dissueded them?
The team was now not too far from the town they were determined to reach. It was littered with purple robed tidesages, they werenât exactly attempting to hide anything so this was definitely a safe town for the Kraken Sage. It would be important to the Vanguard that they not get everyone in the townâs attention. They found a courtyard tucked away, to the side, and saw blood stains all over the stone. The party made their way to the sight of the massacre and now there was only one man, a prisoner no doubt. He was on hands and knees, scrubbing away at the blood and softly sobbing.
The manâs name was discovered to be Brother Wayland, he was a young tidesage in training, like Brother Winston had been. He was very helpful to the Vanguard, he told them about the prisoners there in the town, who had been broken of will, and would either convert, or become husks of whom they once were. He spoke about the few who retaliate, and how their fate was death, brutal and insidious murder. Now he was cleaning up after such an act for merely standing up for a fellow prisoner. At this time a purple robed sage has spotted the Vanguard and was approaching. Brother Wayland lowered his head and got back to scrubbing away at the blood soaked stone pavement.
âNice talk you havinâ there?â A rhetorical statement as she followed up with âLet the peasant get back to work. What are you doinâ here?â Â Â A Vanguard Paladin spoke up, âWe heard of a group called the Krakens Counsel and are seeking more information.â The lady paused and held out a kraken idol. Having positive confirmation the Vanguard engaged. The woman was not a great match for the party, but following her demise, the kraken idol spewed a haze of purple and she arose. She was horribly disfigured now, barely resembling the likeness of a human, her head morphed into what looked like an octopus, with long tentacles drooping down from where he mouth and nose once were. A fire paladin purified her soul to death with righteous and holy flame.
Brother Wayland felt free to speak again and with urgency told the Vanguard of a third Elder Sage in the counsel. The third and final general that if eliminated would surely shoo out the Chancellor. He would likely be forced out of hiding in order to recruit more to his following. He then told the group where this Elder would likely be. They offer to help him escape but he refuses, as he knows his fellow prisoners would be punished for his disappearance. The party affirms they will send in a liberation party, just ensure no one else is murdered in the meantime.
The Vanguard follows Brother Waylandâs instructions on where to find the third Elder and arrive at the cliff of a mountain overlooking a wide river, wide enough for ships to pass through. The Elder was spotted performing a ritual, like the others had, except this Elder had bodyguards. Undeniably due to a security increase. Once the Vanguard had engaged the enemies they found that the bodyguards were for the most part staying out of the way.. A messy fight ensued, with all manner of magic, shamanistic calls, and glorious blade strikes. The man, Elder Gordon, became significantly weakened and collapsed, a crack was heard as his head slammed to the ground. Now the two body guards pulled out their kraken idols and crushed them. They then mysteriously fell unconscious. The gasses then flowed to Elder Gordon and encompassed his entire body. They hovered over him for a moment longer than what would seem appropriate before a scaled hand was spotted balling into a fist. Elder Gordon had taken on a grotesque form even more monstrous than the cultist seen in the town. The Vanguard once again brought blade to throat, for the good of Azeroth.
The Oathsworn Vanguard team was then healing those who had been injured in battle and assessing any long term ailments that would have any impact on duty, when something was spotted at the waterline. The same armored man, the Chancellor, had flown in on gryphon-back to meet with a courier. This courier was sporting the colors of Drustvar. Curious now.. Whatâs Drust got to do with this? The encounter was brief, and after the Chancellor handed off an envelope they both flew off in different directions. The Vanguard set the best of their clandestine operatives on the case of the Chancellor and the Courier, and waited for the intel to come in.
(Two weeks later, at the Office of the 9th Oathsworn Vanguard, located in Boralus)
It was late in the afternoon already and an urgent meeting had been called, and instructions were given to come armed. A map of Drustvar lay sprawled out across the table, with various points of interest marked. One particularly stands out, having a red wax stamp on it featuring a gryphons head. Lieutenant Myferae wasted no time once all were accounted for, âGood evening Vanguard, as you know we have had our best clandestine operatives on the case of the courier wearing Drustvar colors. The one we saw meeting with the Chancellor after dispatching all three of his elders. Well we have received positive confirmation that the courier has been spotted in Falconhurst this evening, and is staying at the inn. We must act on this time critical information before we lose our shot at exposing the Chancellor.â Following the brief, the Vanguard rolled out with an enviable haste, making way toward the destination marked on the map.
(Falconhurst, Drustvar)
It was nearly midnight, darkness clouded the area, with only a feint semblance of moonlight peeking through. The only other light that permeated would be the numerous lamp posts throughout the town. Drustvar harbored its own welcoming party to the Vanguard. When making their way through the city, they came across a pack of angry wicker wolves. Fortunately the wolves were weak and fell fairly easily, but following the wolves was a trio of upright standing wicker beasts. Two spirit binders and a wicker horror. The spirit binders stayed in the back and began channeling a bright blue beam toward the horror, the Vanguard decided the best course of action would be eliminate the binders before they found out what they were doing. The Horror became enraged and performed a bladestorm like attack, using only his bristly arms outstretched, he cleaved the party and gave them splinters. Nobody likes splinters so obviously they had to kill him. Once the group was done with him there lay only a pile of wicker mess. The townsfolk moved in and assured the Vanguard they would burn the beasts and they could move along.
Once at the inn, they all filed upstairs, following the intel gathered, and sure enough, lay sleeping in bed was our Drustvar Courier. A fear inspiring interrogation followed suit. The courier awoke to a mechanical spider atop him, he eyed his dagger, then quickly changed his mind when he looked over and saw the rest of the group. The courier held out for a while, but he could not endure the entire night, he eventually spilled the beans. He told the Vanguard that the Chancellor had paid him well to distribute letters or recruitment, renewed work contracts, and mercenary hires. He was able to inform that the Chancellor never spoke of his name, but that he is a skilled warrior, and seeks even greater power through the magical realm⊠He is on a quest to become something like a dark paladin, and he was somewhere in Drustvar that very moment in search of yet another source of power.
Having gathered all the information they could from the courier, they elected to imprison him and turn him in to Boralus for judgement. The Vanguard make their way out of the inn and notice a burnpile and give the townspeople a nod, the nod was returned and they turned back to marvel at the fire. The group then made their way to the docks. At the docks they discovered a hulking Wicker brute. This big guy was pushing a dingy back and forth in the water and making a grunty âsplish⊠sploosh..â noise with his mouth. It was an interesting sight to behold. The Vanguard Field Marshal was able to gleam from the beastsâ rudimentary mind that the Chancellor arrived here by boat with only a Kraken sage guide, and the sage had taken off back to the sea once he had stepped ashore. She also saw that he ate a fisherman and it was incredibly likely that was the fishermanâs boat the wicker brute was playing with. Having gathered enough information from the beast, she released him into the water. The wicker brute became enraged and struggled to get back on the docks. The Vanguard was able to get a few attacks in before he jump out of the water and land on the dock with a concussive force that would rattle the wooden structure back and forth several times. The beast was then put down for good, and tossed over the side and into the water.
The group explored the dock further and found a large kraken idol. They were quite curious about it and someone tried picking it up, but it was quite heavy and they dropped it, it shattered and a toxic purple haze began to spew but a skilled mage was able to revert what had happened in that quick second with a time warp. The team now knew to treat it with much more care, and called in an extraction party to safely transport it. Meanwhile as the kraken idol stuff was happening, a few of the party had noticed a dockworker and had engaged in a friendly conversation with him, for some even maybe too friendly of conversation. Um, haphazardly, the dockworker had become utterly smitten by a certain Dark Iron Duchess. Fortunately that meant that he would be spilling the beans, and he told that he had plans to make way for Stormsong the next morning. He invited the Dark Iron and told her that if she wanted her friends to come along they would need the permission of the blacksmiths, as he was a new recruit and they had worked for the Kraken folk for some years already.
The Vanguard made their way off the docks, through the town, and up the hill to the blacksmiths workshop. They arrived to see an argument taking place between 4 men. One of them, an older man, stormed off to a shed and emerged shortly after covered in blood and had donned a pig's head over his own. He wielded an axe and a sword and was going after everyone and anyone in sight. He had lost his mind, but it was not the time to find out why, first the Vanguard needed to subdue, or eliminate the threat. The blacksmiths were frightened and stood back as the professionals did their thing and within minutes the crazy pig man had been dispatched. With the situation de-escalated the Vanguard was able to talk to the Blacksmiths. They observed some rusty kraken pins on their blouses, and inquired what they exactly do for the krakens counsel. The blacksmiths shared that they are crafting a variety of things, ranging from cannons, to ship parts, to armor. They even shared that they had received a pay raise and an invitation to move to Stormsong. The conversation was cut short when the Vanguard heard a piercing scream of a woman in distress. The party broke into a sprint to the house across the way and immediately discovered a wicker horror, two tentacle faced sages, and a poor woman, held aloft by the kraken sage magic, as the wicker horror stabbed her through the abdomen. âThis is what happens when you oppose us!â cackled one of them. The Vanguard unanimously enraged and brought a swift death to the three, but unfortunately the last Kâthir cast a spell on the entire party.
The Vanguard leaves the house and by sheer coincidence they spot the Chancellor and a truly massive wicker beast, it had to tower at 11, maybe even 12 feet tall. This was a Wicker Spell Master, and the Chancellor had allied with him, and was bringing him to Stormsong as well. The Vanguard froze in their tracks by the Kâthir spell, and was unable to give chase soon enough, and the Chancellor was able to escape with his Devout Elder Kraken Sage, and the Wicker Spell Master. Once freed the Vanguard makes haste to the docks, where the Chancellor had called in rear guards. The Vanguard did battle with these Kraken sages but were stalled too long to catch the head triad of the Counsel before they were off the horizon.
Following the battle the Vanguard found the Dockworker who disclosed his name as Thaddius and was now bearing a shiny kraken pin. They told Thaddius that they had met with the blacksmiths and told him that they would be joining him to Stormsong. They of course did not need to divulge what exactly happened with the blacksmiths, nor mention that they had not discussed an invitation. The sheer power of conviction in telling Thaddius that they were too going to Stormsong was enough convincing for him. He shared with them the location on the map where they were to sail for, and lucky enough, they all could take boats out of Falconhurst! And thus the Oathsworn Vanguard set sail for Thresherâs Wharf, Stormsong Valley.

Through the Eyes of Marshal Bennas
The Marshalâs gold and azure boots bit into the nigh waterlogged soil of the Drowned Lands of Stormsong with each step. His eyes darted to Marshal Kingstonâs position and his own captives before his gaze refocused on the bound Horde soldiers before him.Â
It had been a long skirmish that turned into a battle. The Marshal mused to himself as he reflected on the day. His mind drifted to the Vanguardâs entrance upon the killing field outside the little town of Deadwash. He recalled how they, himself, Marshal Kingston, Lieutenant Myferae, and the Sergeant Major Aegis, charged into battle like angels resplendent against the skirmishing Horde.
A grim smile crossed his features as he recalled the first hero of the Horde they faced: an orcish warrior that taunted Marshal Kingston with a single yawn. Then how Gereion yawned in return as the Marshal took the orcâs head in a blow. The Master of Summerfast reflected on the Zandalari warrior, adorned in the pomp and majesty of Pandaren armor. The irony of the Zandalari adorned in the armor of a people his ancestors and perhaps his comrades sought to oppress did not escape Theodore.
He thought of the two Zandalari, a druid and a shaman, who thought him alone as they rushed to meet him headlong only to realize too late their error as the jaws of Integraâs mighty sons and daughters snapped shut.Â
He pondered the bloody toll the Vanguard had reaped on the Horde on this day, the orcâs hand which Theodore severed with a cut following an oblique step to the right before thrusting Libertasâ tip into his throat, and finally the cowering deserters before him. Men and women that fled, leaving their fellows to the 7th Legion and the Vanguard beside them.Â
âI have heard it said that the Horde is a family.â Theodore Bennas began as he rested his hand on the hilt of the runeblade, âBut on this day, you turned your back on your family. You had sought the preservation of your own lives before that of your comrades. Such behavior is beyond cowardly. It is desertion and the only remedy for such a crime is death. In these moments, you are not Horde. You are men and women without honor and banners.â
Libertas flew from its scabbard as the Marshal drew the runeblade in a single cut upwards. The elven longsword sang as it tore through the air and cut down the first prisoner, a Zandalari troll. The second in the line was a sinâdorei woman, gold of hair and an expression of defiance that began to change. But she would not show the same fear that had caused her to abandoned her fellows. Theodore would not permit it as his hands and sword descended from the high guard on his right side in a downward, diagonal cut. Libertas cut true and cleanly.Â
At long last there was one more, a Forsaken that cursed and fought against his bindings, âRelish your victory will you can, human. Your sick crusader ilk will be blighted from this world like the filth you are.â
Theodore allowed him to speak. That grim smile shifted into only the smallest of frowns. His expression was not anger or disdain but weariness, âYour fate was sealed when you stepped foot on Kul Tiran soil. I relish nothing about this. Not this war, not this battle, and not your death.â Theodore grabbed the longsword by the strong of the blade close to its base and turned the elven blade upside down and swung the crossguard down at the Forsakenâs head.
It was quiet as the final deserter fell. But only for a moment as the thundering sound of the Horde reinforcements came from across the Drowned Lands. The Marshal turned his attention to his fellow Marshal then the Lieutenant and then the Sergeant Major. Their decision was unspoken and unanimous. âOur work here is done. Nicely done, Vanguard.â Theodore spoke over the Communicator as he turned and departed the field of battle with his comrades at his side.Â
(This is a write up of IC world PvP that @gereionkingston @denizen-myf and Aegis, who doesnât have a tumblr did. During our PvP antics, even while we were outnumbered, some Horde players would leave their fellow combatants behind and try to escape. Gereion also wrote a write up about this event and you can check it out here.)
Through the Eyes of Marshal Kingston
Gereion hefted his axe over his shoulder, the battle over for the moment and with it came the murmur of captured and wounded soldiers.
His eyes followed the neat line of captured Horde before looking around and taking note of Bennasâ location.Â
âDesertion is the most heinous crime one can commit to his own people.â Gereionâs voice was raised, talking to the line of captives regardless of if they could understand him at all. âAnd the punishment for this crime, is death.â
In a fluid motion the axe left the Marshalâs shoulder, slicing through the nearby trollâs neck. âYâall came onto Alliance Soil.â His voice carried over the now silent field as a Nightborne was now executed
âYou abandoned your comrades!â This turn was an orc in elegant robes. âAnd yâall had the audacity to flee without the chemicals being released.â
The last in his line was a Tauren who stared at him with begging eyes. Gereionâs hand moved to gently pat her on the head for a moment before he put the axe through her neck
With the last of his captives properly put down he scanned the horizon. A large Horde force had gathered nearby and was quickly making their way over. He made one last note on what Bennas was doing before putting the axe back over his shoulder and walking away from the front âIâve overstayed my welcome.â
(( This is a write up of some IC world PvP that @theodorebennas @denizen-myf and another guildie not on tumblr (Aegis) did in Stormsong where we continued to notice that even in 4v4 - 4v5 fights, Horde players would abandon their groups to save themselves.))Â
Noblegardenâs On Its Way
A quiet hush settle the air over Fort Integra, it is three hours before dawn, large figures can be seen gathering in the courtyard with baskets of what appears to be assorted toys, candies, and goods of all sorts stuffed into wee colorful plastic eggs. The group quiets down as their leader, a worgen of gargantuan proportions takes the stage.
âMy glorious brothers and sisters of the 10th Company, as per tradition, it is our favorite time of year!â
âBrewfest?!?â
âNo, our other favorite time of the year.â
âHollowsend?â
âNo our other other favorite time of the year.â
âWintersveil?â
âNo what, feck it, itâs Noblegarden time!â
A chorus of âOhsâ rise up from the gathering.
âAs you know Iâve divided you into four regions, your mission, to hide eggs filled with treats and rewards for all the good lads and lasses of the Alliance. Our counterparts amongst the Horde have confirmed that they have their cities covered this year, to prevent anyâŠunpleasantness.â
A mummer of agreement rises from the gathering.
âLadies, gentlemen, you may now affix your bunny ears! Prepare your baskets! And as your march let forth our glorious war song!â
As one, the men and women of the 10th affix their bunny ears, pick up their baskets and begin chanting,
âHere comes Worgen Missintail
Lopinâ down the Garden trail
Laughingly lopinâ, Noblegarden starts today!
Bringinâ every lass and lad
Loads of candies to be had
Things to make Noblegarden full of yay!
Heâs got jelly babies for Tommy
Colored eggs for sister Sue
Thereâs an orchid for your mommy
And a Noblegraden bonnet too
Oh! Here comes Worgen Missintail
Lopinâ down the Garden trail
Laughingly lopinâ, Noblegarden starts today!
Here comes Worgen Missintail
Lopinâ down the Garden trail
Laughingly lopinâ, Noblegarden starts today!
Try to do the things you should
Maybe if youâre extra good
Heâll roll lots of Garden eggs your way
Youâll wake on Noblegarden morninâ
And youâll know that he was there
When you find those chocolate worgen
That heâs hiding everywhere
Here comes Worgen Missintail
Lopinâ down the Garden trail
Laughingly lopinâ, Noblegarden starts today!
Laughingly lopinâ, Noblegarden starts today!â
Ithaeriel Brenagh, Marshal of the Oathsworn Vanguardâs 10th Company smiles to himself before motioning his siblings over as the troops pour out, on their mission to spread joy to all the good lads and lasses of the Alliance.
âWe have a special mission, Operation Best First Noblegarden Ever! We shall hide the eggs about the Fort and Tavern, we shall make the tracks of the flower in the shape of the prints of the Bunny, and we shall bring joy to Little Lori and the rest of the Vanguard children!â
With that, they set about their duty, the sun still hidden, the moons still high and laughter filling the air.
Happy Easter and Noblegarden to you all!
Big thanks to Bleeding Heart Studios, this came out great!
Stormsong Investigation, a story
(Office of the 9th Oathsworn Vanguard, Boralus)
âTidesages are inexplicably disappearing and merchants are no-longer traveling to or from Stormsong. The Vanguard has been called in to investigate. We also know that Horde are in the area so let's remain vigilant. Steel yourselves and meet me at the location marked on this map before the crack of dawn.â
(Tidecross, Stormsong Valley)
Once gathered at the location, the Vanguard embark on the path up the hill. Upon observation rounding the corner, a squad of Horde patrollers are spotted. The Vanguard takes notice that the troll of the squad is healing, and swiftly dispatches him. Shortly after the rest of the patrol squad fall beneath the blade.
Day break, the sun peeks over the horizon. Something peculiar is found on the path. A decaying merchant lay decrepitly on the ground, beside him is a satchel, and clean dagger. The satchel contained 2 jugs of mead marked with âThe Shark, M.R.â and several silver coins etched with a kraken on them. A certain Kul Tiran Vanguardian is particularly happy about the mead. The party continues uphill to a small camp.
In the tent is a broken off Forsaken Jaw, and large boot prints are spotted heading across an adjacent bridge. At which point, the party is ambushed by 4 Forsaken footmen. They are eliminated with ease, and no injuries were reported. A puddle was spotted and the Vanguard did their due diligence in posting slip hazard signs in accordance with OSHA guidelines. They continue across the bridge following.
The bridge was rickety but all crossed successfully, and continued along a cliffside. A groggy looking Tidesage, later learned to be Brother Stewart, passes the party and looks like he just woke up, he gives the party a stink eye. Following Brother Stewart was Sister Lelani, who also eyes us as she passes, and seems on the alert. Finally, a burly type sage, Brother Thurgood confronts us on the path. âWhere you lot headinâ?â A Vanguardian Paladin attempts to actually gain useful information and directions when, behind them, Brother Stewart and Sister Lelani ambush them. This fight caught them by surprise, a Demon Hunter was briefly taken out of combat and slowly drowned in a magic water globule, but heroically, the spell was broken and the DH made it out alright.
After the Brothers were taken care of, a Hunter froze Sister Lelani with an ice trap, incapacitating her from the neck down. An interrogation followed, and tidbits of information were revealed, but not a whole picture, she then conjured water in her lungs and took her secrets to the grave.
Following the encounter chanting can be heard from what sounds like the top of the cliff. The party investigates, and when they reach the top of the cliff, they spot a sage in the distance, pointing and yelling, before he breaks into a full winded sprint to a camp. The Vanguard persue, and come upon the one who gave signal, and the one performing a ritual. They were hastily picking up after themselves but the party arrived just in time. They were weak, and fell quickly to the onslaught of the 9th Oathsworn Vanguard. After pilfering through the camp to find any useful information, they discover a kraken idol, and some literature. It seems to be a list of things needed for a ritual. âWake of the waterfall, crest of the creek, flow of the fathoms, tentacle idol, and a sacrifice"
The Vanguard has a fluttering moment to think things over before a Tauren Hunter is spotted behind them, who had watched the whole thing. The Tauren knew some common and was able to inform that the sages were at a tidepost across a creek, and they were doing something or another. The party proceeds and investigates to find the post is augmented with a statue of what looks to be a large tentacle. It is also neatly bound together with thick rope from a shipâs mooring lines, and robust steelwork. Hung by the post is a pot of everburning coals, as if an effigy had been set ablaze and has reduced to cinders. At the base is a text written in an ancient language. âThe depths whisper to the devoted, the sacrifice empowers the sage. Burn the idol at the horseshoe and converge where three become one.â They notice the creek they are at makes a horseshoe.
Continuing on with a riddle to solve, the Vanguard spots another Horde patrol squad and is successfully able to evade them. Below the hill where the tidepost was, flows a waterfall and run of extremely fast rushing water to get to the next fall. Elder Giovanni is a sage of the cult they are discovering. The party finds him here channeling and morphing a huge ball of deep blue water with hints of purple coursing within. He sends an apprentice on gryphon back off with a full pale heading north. On sight the Elder attacks the Vanguard, and while they were successful, unfortunately they did sustain some serious damage here and there.
They then searched the Elder, as you do, and find a letter, likely from the gryphon back courier. âThe Chancellor began the ceremony already and urges haste, Hugrarin and Helfaron were successful in delivering the crest of the creek, though they were murdered by some meddling mainlanders and a Drust. Be wise and wary.â The medics tended to the injured, and together the party pressed on with the new clue.
On the path, the party comes across 2 burly sages harassing a younger lad. When they spot us, the younger one immediately puts his hands up and requests aid. The Vanguard remains wary as they assist the guy. One burly sage gets beat up and runs off, and the other haphazardly falls backward off a cliff. The young lad turns out to be Brother Winston, and he is eternally grateful. Brother Winston, though of modest skill will do what he believes is right, and not stoop to the madness of the secret Tidesage cult. Winston tells the party that the cult actually calls themselves the Krakens counsel, in an effort to not sound so culty. He reveals that the leader goes by the title âChancellorâ and he has three Elders that serve as his generals. Brother Winston also knows where âthree become oneâ and leads the Vanguard on horseback to the site.
The Vanguard arrives at a site that would inspire awe. Tucked away in the hills was an almost perfect crescent shaped cliff face, glistening with every flash of lightning in the background. Etched away into the cliff face by natural wear, was three bold streams of water, falling majestically down to a tier above the water, before converging into one wide and flat fall to the bottom. Elder Tidesage Goodwin is at the three falls is doing a ritual alike the previous Elder discovered. Once found out, Elder Goodwin calls Brother Winston a weakling and a traitor, and blasts him off the cliff to fall to his death below. In the fight he conjured up wake aberrations that berated the party like waves and a Dwarf lost his sanity. Once again the Vanguard prevailed and did away with the second Elder of the Krakens counsel.
When the clamour of battle subsided, they heard comotion down below in the town of Sagehold. The party ventured to the cliff edge in time to spot a gathering of 5 tidesages bearing the green and blue colors of Stormsong, and other, nefarious intentioned sages wearing purple robes, who were surrounding the innocents. Then emerged an armor clad man, though no clear shot at the front of him was made visible. He raised his right hand dismissively, and the purple robed sages in one fell swoop, executed the tidesages. Murdered them, in cold blood. The armored man must have been the Chancellor. The decision was made by the Vanguard, to call in reinforcements. It was no longer an investigation.
