#what the hell r u doing????
naelxhwang:
“I promise I’ll do my best,” he said, humor coloring his tone. Nael nodded along to the explanation the other man gave as if it made perfect even if to him it really didn’t matter much. He’d never been around children enough that he had to censor himself so he didn’t understand that dad instinct. “Okay yeah, the other option is definitely weird.” He shook his head, disagreeing with the other. “No, no, definitely an angel,” he smiled down at her, making a funny face and watching her giggle. His heart warmed at that. She was so cute and friendly and he had no experience with kids so he was glad she didn’t immediately burst into tears at the sight of his face. As they started talking about the building Nael was surprised to find that they also lived there. Maybe spending nights holed up in the studio downtown and then days sleeping and not leaving the apartment was hindering his chances at meeting people and making friends. Maybe. “I just graduated from grad school a few months back and moved in. So about three months now,” he revealed. The question took him a bit by surprise because honestly, no he didn’t. He was a tall and burly man, all muscle and beard and general rugged handsomeness. Nael cocked his head to the side as if he was really thinking about the question when in reality he was just allowing himself a couple of seconds to be mesmerized by the guys’ biceps. Though he quickly adverted his eyes because that felt odd. He wasn’t trying to hit on a father who most likely was not even merely interested in men. “No, I feel like I’m the one that should be scared,” he joked. “I am an artist. I just got my masters in fine arts and I’m working with a gallery downtown to do an exhibit of my works. And you?”
“And that’s all anyone can do. At least you’re not being annoying like some people would be.” Vahit could not stand when someone tried to speak to him when he didn’t want to be spoken to. Or just simply didn’t get the hint at all that he wasn’t in the mood. However, he just hadn’t felt the need to push this guy away at the moment. The man had complimented his daughter so that was enough to not just walk away from him. “See, I told you. You can’t just say stuff like that without getting a few stares.” His shoulders lifted into a shrug, his mouth downturning slightly. “Nah, she’s a little devil. Aren’t you, Leyla?” The little girl just gurgled and smiled at the both of them. All he could do was give her his finger to hold onto for the time being. It took no time for her to put that same finger in her mouth and start biting on it with her little gums. It wasn’t going to hurt him so he didn’t bother taking that away from her. Oh hell, she was going to be spoiled when she grew up. “Three months? Oh yeah, I definitely would not have seen you. I’ve been pretty busy these past few months. Maybe you would have seen my mother though. She’s in my apartment more than she’s in hers since she’s always watching this little one for me. I’ve got crazy hours at the firehouse.” He felt like he was talking about himself a little much so he focused back on Nael. “Grad school for art though. Never thought that was a thing. They have grad school for everything. What extra do they teach you?” Vahit lifted his hands to tie his hair up into a knot so it would get out of his face for just a moment. “Sounds awesome. One of my exes loved that stuff. They loved that weird kinda art though. Like the stuff you really have to stare at to understand. They would spend hours online finding tickets for galleries. Maybe I’ll let them know about yours since we’re still friends.” Leaning back, he looked down at Leyla. “Firefighter. That’s probably why I look like you should be scared of me,” he joked.

Nael grimaced, an apologetic smile overtaking his face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I realize how weird this is now, I’m sorry.” Maybe he could attribute this whole situation to him getting three hours of sleep last night and that’s why he was being weird. Maybe the little girl’s father would understand that. He almost laughed as he corrected himself in front of his daughter, replacing the curse word with something apparently not as bad. “Is crap an acceptable word? Still seems kind of cursed to me.” He watched the other man’s face light up as he spoke of his daughter, endeared at how much love he could tell the man had for his daughter. Nael probably would never understand that what with never planning on having children himself, terrified that maybe he was just like his father. But it was incredibly heartwarming to see parents, fathers, who loved their children more than his own had ever loved him. “I don’t blame you, she’s an absolute angel.” Nael shook his hand, giving him a bright smile. “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nael. I uh–, live in that building right over there,” he pointed ahead to his apartment building. “I’m really sorry that I scared you again, I swear I’m not a weirdo.”
“Yeah, man.You should work on that.” He was just joking, but he was not going to let the other man know that at the moment. He figured he would let him think he was upset for just a moment. Vahit was just that kind of guy sometimes. Nice half the time and a bit of an asshole the other half. “Well, crap isn’t as bad as the other word I just used. I’d rather her say crap. I feel like you can’t really say that someone scared the poop out of you without it sounding weird,” he joked. The least he could do was make it seem like he wasn’t completely upset about something as simple as thinking his daughter was adorable enough to strike up conversation. “An angel might be a strong word, but she’s pretty dang close to it.” He smiled down at Leyla in the stroller. He really loved his daughter. Vahit was sure there was absolutely nothing he wouldn’t do for her. She already had to go without a mother because of his mistake so he wasn’t going to ever give up on her. Even through her angsty and wild teen years. He turned his head towards the building Nael was pointing towards. “Hey, I live in that building, too. How long have you lived there? I’ve never seen you before.” That was also probably because he was never there. He was mostly at work and his mother was usually dropping Leyla off to see him at the firehouse. It was a tangled web he wove, but he knew he was doing enough for his daughter. “Hey, it’s alright. I was just messing with you. Do I honestly look like the kind of guy that would get scared that easily?” Looks sure as hell were deceiving so the other man couldn’t exactly judge a book by its cover. Looking down at Nael’s appearance, he raised a brow. “What I’m getting from you right now is you’re like the complete opposite of me. What do you do?”
naelxhwang:
After class, Nael had stopped by the art store to pick up some brushes and new paints as he was running low on them. With one bag of art supplies on his hand and an ice cream he’d gotten from one of the trucks on the other, he decided to take a walk. A block away from his apartment building he noticed what seemed to be a struggling father and his young baby. When he caught sight of the cute baby girl in the stroller he smiled. She was absolutely the most adorable baby he had seen, even though she seemed to be giving her father such a hard time. When she smiled Nael’s own grin just grew bigger. For some reason, he decided to take a seat on the bench next to them and strike up a conversation, even though he knew how weird that seemed. Truthfully, he just wanted to make funny faces at the cute baby and see her giggle. “She’s so adorable. How old is she?”
Vahit had not been prepared for someone to start speaking to him. When he was talking to his daughter, the outside world was tuned out. The man had all but dedicated his life to his daughter. Well, technically it was ninety percent her and ten percent saving people since he was a firefighter. That barely gave him much time to spend with her though so he cherished every single moment he spent with her. Nevertheless, the man sitting next to him had scared the ever living shit out of him and it took everything in Vahit not to swing immediately. “Allah, Allah.” He put his hand to his chest for a moment and turned his head. “You usually pop up on people unannounced like that? You scared the hell out of me.” He took a deep breath and turned back to Leyla with a smile. “I meant he scared the crap out of me. Big difference.” All she said in return was, “Baba!” He just shook his head and turned back to the other man. “She’s just two. And she tries her best. I think she just knows she’s got me wrapped around her finger so she just keeps doing that thing where she looks at me and smiles and gurgles and—” There had to be a cut-off point somewhere. Loving his daughter wasn’t a crime, but he felt like maybe he was admiring and fawning over her too much in front of a stranger. Simply clearing his throat, he raised a brow and held his hand out. “Uh...I’m Vahit. And you are?”
“Leyla, shush. C’mon. Babaanne can’t watch you today so you’re stuck with me, okay? I know you don’t like it, but you’ll have to get used to it. I can’t just have you yelling in my ear all day when I’m trying to work out.” Vahit had only gotten midway through his jog before his daughter starting screaming in his face. He had just stopped and looked down at her in the stroller. Hands on his hips, he knelt down in front of her. “Can you just...pretend like you like me a little bit? I promise I’ll be around more? Less shifts at work?” At that, the little toddler stopped crying and smiled. “I’m such a sucker. You’ve got me wrapped around your pinky, don’t you?” He pushed them over towards the nearest bench to sit down. Wiping the sweat off of his face with his shirt, he grabbed a bottle of water and took a sip of it before offering some to Leyla. “Baba!” A small smile lifted onto his face at her words. “Oh, now you like me?”
