its on Erid, long after Grace and Rocky figure out how to hug and snuggle. Eridians dont really do full hugs like humans because then you can hear everyone's internal organs that close so its a little weird, maybe tapping/hand holding is the usual affection. Everyone assumes the constant cuddling is purely for Grace's human needs benefit, and while Grace obviously does love and need the touch, Rocky being driven to space madness and having every form of ptsd means he is equal if not more in need of constant full body hugs because he likes feeling how alive Grace is.

So random Eridian scientists are talking to Grace and are like, absolutely no disrespect intended, but very interesting Rocky overcame the cultural weirdness and sensory disgust of "hugs" and does them despite no benefit to himself because he cares for your needs! Its sweet!

Grace: actually Rocky freaks out if he cant press himself against my lungs and heart through the thinnest xenonite possible until he can hear every muscle cell in my body moving at least once a day.

Scientist: ok cool so hes kind of a total pervert then okay

A tribute piece of crossover fanart for Knights of the Light Table's work on what's now two of my favorite music videos of all time: Starlight Brigade and Neon Odyssey. I was so moved and inspired by their latest animation, and the pure artistry and passion that went into it, that I had to draw something to celebrate both with a shared theme of space. Thought it be cool to team up Strive and Pyke in one image. They're my big favs and I really wanted to do them justice while pushing myself on the background to hopefully capture that wonder and awe of space. :) Starlight Brigade Neon Odyssey

i keep laughing at the way that eridian culture in the movie and eridian culture in the book are not contradictory at all, if you accept that movie rocky is just a total FREAK

Okay I've both read the book and watched the movie, but it's been around a year since I read the book. How do they contradict? Or, supposedly contradict?

Okay so in the book, Rocky typically wears a green sweater with a hole in the top for his vents. This was omitted in the movie, probably because it was more visually interesting to let viewers see Rocky's different "faces" (they did keep the tool belt which iirc is pretty faithful to the book's description). His celebration gear was also changed for the movie; in the book it's a whole separate outfit with jewel-like decorations and gloves, not just fancy jewelry. All of which is to say, in the book Eridians absolutely do regularly wear proper clothing, so the implication is that movie Rocky is a nudist.

Also, eating! In the book we get a much more detailed explanation of how Eridians eat. Suffice to say it is very gross. Eridians consider eating disgusting in general and have a strong cultural taboo against even talking about eating around people who aren't close friends or family. This was cut for the movie (for obvious reasons) and replaced with the joke where Rocky calls Eridian eating beautiful. So either that detail was changed, or Rocky is totally lying and/or deliberately trying to gross Grace out.
