22 years ago, on the second week of February 1999, Johnny and his friend Hunter S. Thompson traveled to Havana, Cuba; but few things are known about this trip. Hunter said that he received an invitation from the head of the Cuban Film Commission and also said that was going to “pay my respects to the Cuban people & to thank Fidel Castro for the courage of his struggle & the beauty of his dream"  But, he also stated that he was mainly going for fun and his diary. The precise dates are also quite uncertain. On February 2, Johnny (or “Colonel Depp” - one of Johnny’s nicknames given by Hunter) was in London when received an email sent by Hunter inviting him to spent the weekend in Havana. Hunter stated that Johnny arrived three days after him, which was on February 6, but never told how many days they spent (he only said that had made a reservation at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba from February 4 through 14), what they did (by some photos they had a lot of fun) and when they left. During those days, Hunter and Johnny were also accompanied by the photographer Michael Halsband, who was also their tour guide and registered some moments of Johnny at the hotel in Havana and reading one of Hunter’s diaries.
