With less than 24hrs before the life changing event that is Corriedale. Iâm about to get sappy and be a massive wetty!!! We all are aware Iâm not the most articulate at the best of times.
I have always been somewhat of a lurker in fandom spaces, the occasional like/ kudos thrown at people who post regularly about whatever ship has me in a chokehold. Iâm not really sure what changed with this one⌠actually, I am. I moved to a different country alone in September and after a few weeks of feeling so incredibly alone and isolated, I decided to start posting some of my nonsensical and long ass rambles. I was met with support, kindness, thoughtful additions, and the occasional challenge (which I love because I like seeing things from multiple viewpoints, and yes at points, I did need checking). I felt listened to at a point when I really needed it, so I would like to thank all of you little people in my phone for being on this journey and welcoming me on board.
I even redownloaded the bloody bird app and everything. It remains a hellscape, but here and there (where I continue to lurk, but endeavour to not one day) I have found some of the most hilarious, talented, creative, lovely and intelligent people. Seriously, you all make me feel smarter.
I genuinely think interacting in this silly little fandom saved me in many ways. I would like to give each and every one of you a lil consensual forehead kisseh.
Hereâs to Swarla, Corrie and Corriedale. May we all rest in peace when our hearts combust at the reunion.

Many people are excited for the Swarla reunion/ the Betsy and Carla reunion.
Donât get me wrong, both of these things have me wishing it was already January 5th. However, I cannot wait for Betsy to realise that Lisa is the mother she idealised Becky as.
I made a post a while ago (October-ish) about how this entire storyline was centred on Lisa and Betsyâs relationship, and while I may no longer agree with my initial assessment, I do think their relationship plays a significant role.
We have seen Betsy taking Lisaâs side recently: running after Lisa when she leaves, comforting Lisa in ways Carla has, and discussing the social media posts. This has all been so beautiful to watch (and before anyone mentions it, I am aware that Carla is the main reason for this).
I just think the coming weeks will be rough because either Betsy will plaster Lisa with a load of blame for not recognising it all sooner (guilt Lisa will already be tarnishing herself with but Betsy is Lisaâs primary source of guilt so Betsy piling it on will fucking ruin Lisa), or she will realise her mother is just as much a victim as she was and that throughout it all Lisa has always been the mother she needed (as opposed to the friend she wanted).
She may not always get it right but Lisa has never done anything but try to protect that girl.
Thoughts relating to Lisa Swain (ish, not really thoughts, more just observations) that are not related to the current storyline.
Itâs such a minuscule detail, but it has frustrated me since we first saw Lisa Swain in dress uniform.
She is only ever wearing one ribbon, which would hold the commemorative Golden Jubilee Medal (2002). Between the Golden Jubilee and June 2025, when we first see her in uniform, three more commemorative medals have been issued: the Diamond Jubilee (2012), the Platinum Jubilee (2022), and the Coronation Medal (2023). All Iâm saying is DS Lisa Swain should have at least three more ribbons on that bar.
Not to mention the Long Service and Good Conduct medal, which is issued after 20 years of service, and given that 2002 was 23 years agoâŚ
To conclude - give Lisa her silly little commemorative medals.
It also gives us an indication that policing is all Lisa has known in her adult life. Commemorative medals are only issued to people with at least 5 years of service. If she qualified for one in 2002, she has been a police officer since at least 1997. She is coming up for, or has potentially surpassed, 30 years of service.
So when Lisa says she canât quit because sheâs good at it, itâs probably less about that and more about the fact that policing is all sheâs ever known.
Did anyone else feel like their chest was being split open looking at that photo of Lisa.
I feel for all three of them right now, but most of all for Lisa. She has likely been subjected to emotional abuse for the entirety of her relationship with Becky. Her âsafe placeâ throughout her life was, in reality, an abusive partner.
Thereâs a concept surrounding trauma that the body acts first, or at least it keeps the score. The body and the unconscious mind do not naturally move toward what is healthy. It gravitates toward what it knows; Predictability feels safer than the unknown, even when the familiar pattern is abusive. The body finds comfort in what it can anticipate, not in what is good.
Lisa has lived through 20 years of abuse, followed by 3 years of grief and devastation, and only one year of genuine, healthy love. Her body is not used to that. We see it in small moments: âI donât do well with nice,â and other scenes where she almost recoils at kindness (that I canât exactly pinpoint as I write this). Her body is not conditioned to accept love; it is conditioned to accept harm. So it isnât surprising that she slips back into Beckyâs web of lies and manipulation. Even if her rational brain knows itâs wrong, her nervous system recognises the pattern and mistakes it for safety. She doesnât love Beckyâbut she is tethered to her through what her body can tolerate.
Lisa has tried to set boundaries, but Becky ignores them. Lisa confronted her, making it clear that while they would always share Betsy, Carla is her future. That same night, Becky barged in, claiming she was being followed. Lisa tried to stop Becky from hugging her while she raged about Betsy being locked up, but Becky ignored her. Why would Lisa trust boundaries when she has been conditioned to expect them to be ignored?
VMâs acting choices make this even clearer. Watch the flare-ups between Becky and Carla: Lisa goes still. Stock still. She freezes, dissociating or becoming overwhelmed/re-traumatised. In her experience, raised voices and arguments always end badly for her. So she fades into the background, even though she is at the centre of the conflict. She is deeply, visibly traumatised, and everyone is asking too much of her.
The only times Lisa truly defends herself are either with Carla, because Carla is safe! or with Becky, but only when Carla is present, because Lisaâs body knows that she gains nothing from arguing with Becky, but it also knows that Carla will protect her when Becky inevitably lashes out.
Carlaâs insecurities are understandable given her past. It is not Lisaâs responsibility to heal these insecurities; however, it is her responsibility not to exacerbate them. Lisa has never shown anything but commitment. Itâs heartbreaking that the only onscreen moment of her telling Becky that theyâre done, and that Carla is her future in front of Carla is tied to the marriage declaration, because now we know Lisa isnât able to follow through with this.
Lisa hasnât always held the boundaries she could have, but I also think Carla doesnât fully grasp the depth of Lisaâs trauma (neither does Lisa tbh). She recognises Beckyâs current manipulation, but she doesnât seem aware that this is what their entire relationship looked like. How could she, when Lisa has spent years putting Becky on a pedestal. No wonder Carla feels insecure - sheâs been playing second fiddle to someone who has held power over Lisa for decades.
Both Carla and Lisa are too clouded by their love and insecurities to see the whole picture. They donât need a breakup to gain clarity - if anything, a breakup would only leave Lisa more vulnerable to Beckyâs influence. Unless sheâs so angry she tunes Becky out. Becky would inevitably counter with the Betsy card, and Lisa would be pulled right back in.
What they need is an honest, grounded conversation. Carla needs to voice her insecurities, Lisa needs to articulate what she means when she says Becky has âalways been like this.â And Carla, as the one who sees the abuse more objectively, needs to help her understand that this isnât normal. Not just the faked death, but the day-to-day dynamics: the control, the entitlement, the disregard for Lisaâs autonomy. âThat isnât love or care, Lisa, that is abuseâ (or at least manipulation)
Helping Lisa recognise that truth is what will set her free. Not a shock breakup that leaves her exposed right after Carla promised theyâd face everything together and always put Betsy first.
I implore everyone to read @cake-emu âs analysis (Thesis) of this storyline, as it beautifully puts into words what many people, including myself, have been wanting to articulate.
I think what annoys me and a lot of us on here the most about peopleâs reaction to this storyline is how quickly Lisa has been villainised by fans.
How their villainization of the only current Lesbian character on the street has quickly led to subtle if not outright homophobia.
Also, aside from the fact that she has literally never done anything wrong in her life ever, You just know the reaction would be different if this was a heterosexual couple.
Iâve had many thoughts about Lisa Swainâs background in the past few months. (I just want to unpick her entirely and figure out how she ticks because she is such a fascinating character)

I think it is really worth noting that, based on her being aged up, Betsy would have been born in 2007. At that time in the UK, the law around IVF and same-sex parents was still very much reliant on a heterosexual model. Meaning that despite Lisa providing the egg, Becky would have been Betsyâs automatic legal mother, in fact, itâs more than likely that Lisa wouldnât have been listed on Betsyâs birth certificate at allâŚ
Lisa would have had to adopt Betsy to have any parental rights to her child.
I think this is something worth highlighting because things have always been rough for the queer community, and often, even in TV shows, we were continually (and are still) used as the butt of the joke. (Please watch interviews with Julie Hesmondhalgh about how Hayley was initially brought in to be a joke.)
It would be really nice to see a retrospective on how difficult it was for queer parents in the early 2000s, especially in todayâs day and age, when these issues are treated with a lot more care and hindsight.
I understand biology, and the law isnât everything (lord knows I had to learn that one quick as a queer child), but the amount of backlash and difficulties Lisa must have faced her entire life, career and especially as a parent to live authentically is something worth looking into even outside of the current storyline.
vicky myers looks like that in a suit and theyâre trying to put lisa in the ugliest, most ooc dress at her wedding?? that must be a worst crime than the whole becky storyline on the producersâ part
Iâve been trying to figure out why this SL has been so difficult for me to watch, like yes, the angst is beautiful, but the past few months, itâs all just felt a little off, especially for the specifics of the Swarla storyline.
Here is a couple who are learning to heal with one another. Lisa, especially, was finally beginning to live and love around the grief that had plagued her for years. A struggling single mother with a high-pressure career, a woman who holds herself to an impossibly high standard in every regard. Finally, accepting support and help from someone who, a little over a year ago was challenging her at every turn. Lisa, someone who would (even unconsciously) rather be a villain than a damsel, accepting help (and going to fucking therapy) because Carla wonât let her villainise herself out of a love she deserves. They have one of the most authentic and genuine slow burn/ enemies to lovers relationships weâve seen for a longgg time, and to ruin it all over this storyline feels disingenuous.
They have been through so much trauma, only one year into their relationship, and still, these women decided that this is what they wanted forever to look like. I mean, they basically double-proposed to each other.
There were ways of them delving into Lisa's backstory and her relationship with BS (esp the manipulation/ emotional abuse side) that didnât have to involve bringing her back from the dead. They couldâve done a beautiful storyline about her realisation that Carlaâs love is actually her only healthy and authentic experience of love, but wishful thinking, I guess.
Corrie fans and previous non-Corrie fans have clung to this storyline as it depicts two older women falling in love. Sapphics are underrepresented enough in media as is, but this has become Corrieâs fucking golden goose. For some reason, they seem dead set on jeopardising it for more views/ engagement.
(and you know what, they werenât wrong! Unfortunately, it has resulted in many people hating a few of the main characters in this little patchwork family, but lord knows we are more engaged than everâŚ)
I am just disappointed that they felt the need to take this route. It just feels like theyâre making a massive mockery of grief and the healing journey that surrounds it.
Everyone shitting on Betsy for being âincredibly naiveâ and a âbrat of a teenagerâ throughout this whole Becky situation.
Donât get me wrong, the girl can be bratty and petulant like the best of them. Equally, her entire world collapsed when she was 13/14, she never properly grieved her mother's death because Lisa âthrew herself into workâ so she probably thought she just had to get on with it and continue as normal. We are talking about an eighteen year old (EIGHTEEN!!! Lord knows we all wish we were better people at 18!!) who was finally growing around her grief, the grief of losing a mother so young, the grief and guilt of losing her first love, the pain of being shot, this young girl has gone through so much more than most people should in a lifetime and sheâs barely an adult.
It is no surprise that she has regressed since Beckyâs return, (I mean every time I go home for Christmas I turn into the bratty teen I was when I lived with my parents. I hate it and who I become but I canât help it) Sheâs been thrown back into the same place she was when she was a young teen who had just lost their mum, the one she supposedly leaned on for âall the touchy feely stuffâ
Many of her actions and words during this particular storyline have been somewhat naive. However, I donât think the wedding invitation was made out of blind hope. I mean, she was clearly avoiding Becky after their conversation about Carla. To me, the invite and that whole conversation seemed like a test, a test to see how Becky would respond. And if there is one thing Betsy Swain knows how to do, it is push and test boundaries.
Betsy was testing Beckyâs motives, pushing to see if Becky would bite and say anything about Carla/ Lisa, especially their relationship and Betsyâs relationship with Carla. She is slowly but surely trying to get a picture of/ understand her motherâs reasoning for coming back, because I think she is starting to see that she was never more than collateral to Becky.
The girl is a lot more switched on than a lot of us give her credit for. She will definitely see through Becky sooner than Lisa will, and thatâs not to say it wonât break her, but it is to say that I donât think sheâs as blind and naive as we all believe her to be.
The Visa Process for Spain is fucking painful and arduous. Watching that conversation about Brexit and Visas genuinely had me fighting for my life against the remembered stress of it all.
Lisa is right, they donât just hand them out like confetti - Itâs a lot of paperwork and admin, not to mention FUCKING EXPENSIVE!!!
Becky being a big kid and saying theyâll sort it - HOW, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO THAT?!
Genuinely, the aspect of this storyline plaguing me the most is the admin: them supposedly still being married, the âofficialâ death certificate, the visas?! All of these have more questions than answers, which I donât think weâll get.
