Just seen a safety razor advert from Gillette of all people, so fellow men, here is how to go plastic free without paying an arm and a leg for Wilkinson Sword or Gillette shit:
1. The razor itself. You can pick up a damn good Edward Jacob safety razor on eBay for a tenner. High quality chrome that does not wear off, wooden handle that is non-slip. Treat it right and it should last you from puberty to the grave. You can also get them in those high street barber / hairdresser supply stores, but you will pay £25 to £30 for it. Tenner on ebay. Your choice.
2. Blades. Both Wilkinson Sword and Gillette are so sharp as to be unforgiving with nicks. You have the slightest bobbling of skin and it will slice it to hell. This is of particular concern to my black British bros, but us whites can get this too. Get big boxes of 200 Vidyut Supermax blades for around 8 or 9 quid off ebay. They are much more forgiving that that overpriced WS or Gillette shit.
3. Soap. Some of you love your cans of foaming goo and if that works for you don't change it. However I prefer a good old fashioned soap and dish with brush. Again, avoid shitty WS/Gillette stuff and go on ebay. You can get damn good high end branded soap at a heavy discount. Some come with an actual old fashioned soap dish and spare soap/refills. You can just buy the soaps without a dish and grab one of those little Chinese earthenware bowls if you want. It works just as well.
With brushes I have got a real decent artificial bristle brush that is real good and does not lose bristles from a Chinese seller on ebay for under 3 quid including shipping. You can also get Chinese Badger ones, which is not an endangered species over there. However, chances are they're raised on fur farms and artificial bristles are a perfectly decent cruelty free option. It is the only plastic I allow in my shave kit. I chose mine with a wooden handle coz non slip and that bit can be buried to rot down.
