Meet Derek Bromagen, the house father to the Beta Phi Tau Fraternity who recently turned thirty-four years old; he’s been living in the Murder House since 2018…
♫♪ “I’ve bargained my bit with fate and all, with no preconceptions of immortality. I rolled the dice uncompromised, and lost as I am you’re my good Samaritan, when sorrow calls my name. I know nothing stays the same…” [ ► ]
I have long stopped asking why the mad do mad things…
• Charming: polite, friendly, and likable.
• Opinionated: conceitedly assertive and dogmatic in one’s opinions.
• Idealistic: characterized by idealism; unrealistically aiming for perfection.
It’s a filthy world we live in, it’s a filthy goddamn helpless world…
Derek Bromagen wasn’t always the “nice guy a girl could take home on the first date” type. In high school, the young man didn’t seem to have a humble bone in his body. The football team’s Varsity Quarterback since his Freshman year left him with a holier than thou attitude. If it wasn’t for his pivotal position on the team, there was no way that Derek would have even finished high school. Instead of trying to tutor him, the teacher’s continued to pass him even with his obvious less than par grades. Derek even became used to the easy treatment, purposefully choosing the wrong answers although he knew the right one. While he was popular, and happy being that way, he had no drive for anything other than football.
His performance in football caused him to gain a full ride to any college of his choosing. Of course, the choice wasn’t hard for the young aspiring football star considering the only football team Derek wanted to play for was the Michigan Wolverines. However, the cold reality of day hit the young man in the face once entering college and the grading method. He found that none of his professors were willing to curve his grades for the sake of their football careers. Even the coach left him to fend for his own, and put him on second string. Faced with failing out of college, the young man quickly pulled out and moved back home.
The return home to Los Angeles was a humbling experience for the young college drop out. His parents refused to help him, forcing him to get a job and apartment as soon as he had a chance to. Thanks to this, Derek is able to give partial credit for his personality change to them. The other half goes to the only place that would hire him at the time, The Los Angeles Home For Boys as a Counselor. The work, while some days difficult taught Derek that being cocky and self-absorbed was not the way to get through to the young men that lived in the home. It was the willingness to listen and help that worked. Today, many people have commented on how much Derek has changed since his high school days. He has become an outspoken advocate for helping troubled students and going the extra mile. Perhaps that was what caught the mysterious owner of the Murder House, Jackson Beinz’s, attention.
Receiving a call after the news broke about the bodies being discovered on the combined sorority and fraternity house, he was of the understanding that he was needed for the students well being. While at first he was deterred by the discovery and noted reputation of the house, he has fallen in love with the students and most of the other inhabitants that reside in the house. Living inside the house, he tries to give the best experience for the students he can, encouraging parties (as long as they don’t get too out of hand) and studying so that they won’t follow in his footsteps. He is still unable to understand the ghosts of the house, his mind not able to wrap around the idea; however, he stopped asking questions — knowing it would be the better route in the long run.
Are you sure you want to be alone? They say this house is haunted…
Warren Baxter: Derek is really confused about the young man who claims to be a neighbor. While Warren isn’t the first ghost Derek met when coming to the house, he is one of the people in the house that the young man wonders about. While he is intensely awkward around Warren, Derek can’t help but try and strike up a friendly conversation with him.
Brooke Starling: While the woman says she’s a therapist for the students, Derek is suspicious of the woman who sets up shop in the house. He’s often found outside Brooke’s office, trying to figure out what she does in there. He notices how she often speaks to the older people who seem to inhabit the house, and while he wants to know more. He’s afraid to ask. Their encounters are often short and awkward where he chooses to get out of her presence as quick as possible.
Spencer McCormick: Spencer is the first ghost Derek met in the house…but he wasn’t introduced that way. Instead, the young dead fraternity brother told Derek he was the Beta Phi Tau Fraternity president. Believing him, Derek turns to Spencer for help when he runs into problems with the students of the house.
Derek is portrayed by Chris Evans, and is currently taken.
