Step 3 Derek is such a cutie pie. It's a crime we only get that 1 call. So here's 3 random moments they could have interacted:

1. Cove and Mc attending 1 of his games. Self explanatory. Depending whether he loses or wins, potential for a comfort or celebratory scene. He's either embarrassed the mc saw him lose or over the moon they witnessed his victory.

2. His parents throwing him a graduation party and Mc and cove attend. This is my favorite cause it's like a tug of war between Derek wanting to spend time with Mc and needing to entertain his school friends. Potential to incite jealousy or restlessness. Would really lay the foundation for the mc's feeling for Derek in the future.

3. Mc getting injured and Derek coming over in a panic cause Cove made it a sound a lot worse than it was. Perfect timing too cause this is the 1 day Cove couldn't keep the Mc company and they're terribly bored. Potential for Derek to fuss over the Mc endlessly.

I think 90% of people who hate Derek dlc either: didn't pay attention to it or are just racist, because tell me why we can't, legitimately criticize Baxter dlc for being a hot mess, but we can shit on the Latino character who's whole storyline is learning that it's ok to put yourself first and that your family will love you regardless.

Legit some of you missed the part in boardwalk where Irene says that the person who took most care of Nico gets to decide where to go to dinner, she's quite literally saying she wants to reward Derek for his hard work.

Irene and Gregorio let Derek go to the soiree with the MC despite being movie night because they know of Derek's crush on the MC and really want him to spend more time with them.

Derek himself admits that his parents don't make him do anything when it comes to taking care of his brothers, he's actively choosing to include them. That's the whole point of his dlc, that's his doing, he's the one doing that to himself and he fixes that because Derek knows what he wants and he knows where his priorities lie.

That's why when he decides to ask you out to the waterpark he goes in the other room, he's trying to make it up to he's younger self, he learned from his ways and is trying to be a little more selfish. He still falls into those habits from time to time but he always makes it up for it.

Idk man Derek dlc is the best love story I've ever read, it left me with warm and fuzzy feelings and I will die for the Suarez ngl

It's not midnight for me yet so technically I didn't miss it-- Happy birthday to one of the most darling characters from Our Life, Derek Suárez! (lets be real though they're all darling)

Got tired and ran out of time for a full shading so I left it mostly just flatcolor. I had some wonderful references for the poses and yet I still can't draw a soccer ball to save my life lol.

It only low-key breaks my heart how stunned he is at someone putting him first again after 10 or so years, IM ONLY HOLDING THE DOOR OUT FOR HIM, the funny outweighs the sad luckily. He's so cute when he's flabbergasted<333

Baxter x Derek

Derek being like “It’d be cool to have someone who was on my side and who liked me just because I’m me, not because they’re my family and they’re supposed to love me” and “maybe part of me is sort of hoping [...] somebody would try to do things for me, too” then Baxter being like “I can’t say what it means to be significant as a person, to be irreplaceable [...] I certainly wasn’t going to assume I’d do it by accident” and “He couldn’t fully believe those who cared about him did so without terms or conditions” SOBS

Baxter: There are terms and conditions to being loved, and I will never fulfil them

Derek: I cannot be loved if I cannot be selfless, therefore, any love I receive is conditional

Baxter relating to Derek because Baxter tries so hard to iron out his “flaws”, to be the most presentable version of himself, and yet in order to do that, he has to let people down and push them away before they get too close, only deepening his reputation of being unattached and uncaring...and he can’t refute the claims. All he wants is for someone to care about him and really see him, but he doesn’t think he’s worth it, doesn’t know HOW to be worth it. He KNOWS he’s going to disappoint people; in his eyes, it’s inevitable. This is the very thing that Derek is trying to avoid, thinking he can afford to be selfless forever. Derek doesn’t think he’s worth it either, always putting the needs and wants of others before his own at the expense of his mental health. In a way, they are both dooming themselves for the sake of other people–for what they think is best for the people around them, regardless of their own feelings. This manifests through Baxter’s self-isolation and Derek’s people pleasing. They both feel inferior but try to compensate for it in different ways. I'm in deep y'all

Yk Derek's one line: “I don’t want to let them down. I really don’t. But it’s hard. Every day it’s like I’m gonna mess up and disappoint somebody” and Baxter's just like: Hooo boy do I know a thing or two about disappointing people

Both of them being like “I like you because of YOU” and the other being like “But why?” because they can't understand why other people would want to be around them if they're not getting anything out of it

Derek would such a good girl dad. She'd be his princess and he'd be so into matching outfits and cute hairstyles. Naturally, she'd be inclined to sports cause he'd totally share his love of sports with her. I can see him taking her to games, wearing matching jerseys and face paint. He'd get women's sport, so he could take her to games.

Let's not forget the man has energy; he's always in motion. He'd be down for any game. Tag? hide and seek? A swim? Derek's endless energy would truly be put to the test. Oh and she'd be super competitive as a result of his influence.

Can you imagine what a supportive dad he'd be if she took up any sport. He'd be so extra about it. Turning up to her games in full gear, packing her extra everything cause she needs the calories and making sure it's healthy. Forever ready to drive her around.

Spoilt rotten.

All of this will likely apply to all of his children, regardless of gender but something about girl dad Derek hits different.
