Being the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, you didn’t have much time to yourself, constantly flanked with royal duties and Mother’s berating. She expected you to carry on her reign of tyranny and that was not something you had the heart to do.

So when you found Uma one night, you vowed yourself to never let her go. You’d found the only person who truly understood you, who never expected anything from you, You’d found the love of your life.

You’d sneak out of the castle late at night, venturing to the docks to find Uma. Your time together was short, but that made you treasure it even more. Tonight was one of the nights where you’d found yourself in Uma’s quarters on her ship, tangled up in her arms, kissing and talking.

“Uma,” you began, propping yourself up on one elbow, “what if you could come with me to the castle? We could be together and we wouldn’t have to sneak around.”

Your girlfriend sighed. She’d been asked this questions a billion times before and her answer never changed. “No, Y/N. Your mother would have my head.”

“But-”

“I said no. I love you, Y/N but the sea is my home, and you know I could never live in a castle, of all places!” She said and you knew the discussion was over. You had never given the idea of Uma living with you at the palace much thought, you simply wanted to be able to love her without judgment.

You sighed, “I know, you’re right. I’m sorry, love.”

Uma huffed, sitting up to rest against the headboard. “If you think I’m some prissy, pink princess, you’re wrong.”

You grinned lazily. “I know. You’re evil. It’s hot.” Pulling yourself up, you leaned in towards her to place a gentle kiss on her plump lips. You couldn’t put it into words to describe how much you loved her. When you were with her, you felt invincible, like all was right in the world.

Uma smiled against your lips, her own moving against yours slowly. Despite the smile, you could tell there was something else on her mind. You pulled away, resting your forehead on hers. “What’s wrong?”

Uma let out a breath that fanned across your lips. “It’s just- I don’t want you to think of me like that. I’m not like my mother, ‘the almighty fearless and cruel sea witch’.”

You leaned back, an eyebrow raised and a mischievous smile tugging at your lips. “Wait, are you admitting you’re scared of something?”

The girl rolled her eyes. “I can’t believe that’s all you got from that.”

You giggled, nudging her gently. You turned your head to lean against her shoulder, taking her hand in yours. “You’re right. You’re nothing like your mother, and I’m glad you’re not.”

Uma sighed, squeezing your hand. You went on, “and as much as you try to be the big, scary pirate captain, I know deep down you’re so much more than that and that’s enough for me.”

Uma smiled and placed a tender kiss atop your head. “I love you so much, my princess.”

You didn’t have to say it back, for the both of you knew you loved her more than life itself. You didn’t need your mother, your title or your castle. You had Uma, and she was your home.
