Shadow the hedgehog can't be older than two years old (if we subtract the years in stasis). Maria and the GUN general were both kids on the Ark around the same time Shadow was being created. Maria didn't visibly age from that point to her death, so Shadow was only months old by then. What makes it months and not a year at least? The black commet comes around once every 50 years. The commet returns during the ShadowTH game. If Shadow was in stasis for 50 years, that's means the commet was passing by during his creation, and then again after the evens of Sonic Heroes. So he is probably just one year old by his game. I say he's probably two years old at most, because Sonic has had an in game birthday. Shadow is probably closer to 2 years old, consciously.

Also, this is probably the reason Shadow is so quick to follow authority (Eggman, Doom, GUN), because that's literally what he was created for, or how the ARK was managed. Along with why he seems so edgy and immature, he hasn't lived long enough to know how to cope with things and wouldn't know all social norms.

The ‘Sonic Adventure’ Kadomatsu New Year DLC, long thought lost until recently, places Kadomatsu decorations (seen on the desk) around Station Square with New Years greetings and play little tunes when you touch them.

Tails created a fake chaos emerald in SA2. Saying it had the same properties as a real one, and Sonic later showing that it can grant the holder similar abilities too.

If the emeralds can be copied, even if weaker, it can explain a lot of other gems and their powers in the series. Chaos drives, the phantom ruby, even all the varieties of rings. It seems gems and metals in the Sonic universe are all capable of harnessing energy, they just vary on how much energy.
