his head will tilt slightly to the left as dark eyes quickly scan the other and what exactly she was doing. he was curious. she was shoving materials into her rucksack like she had been in the middle of something, heard him approaching then tried to get out of there as quick as possible. he’ll hold his hands up to show he didn’t have any weapons ( he wasn’t allowed a gun currently, anyways. ) before he let’s his hands fall to his sides again.
“i can relate to that. no, really. who are you?”
it didn’t matter to her. weapons or not, his was unfamiliar. therefore, he was a dangerous. she’s lifting her bag over her shoulder, its contents tucked safely inside, pressed against her spine. the runes hummed, making her muscles twitch. she was trying to cast a protection circle. though, the anxiety of being followed made it hard for her to concentrate.
she doesn’t comment. her eyebrow arching. “reina.” it’s not, but it’ll do. “who are YOU ??”

her pen is furiously scribbling along stained notebook paper, writing new lyrics, new annotations, scratched out phrases replaced by better ones. her headphones are blaring and her foot taps out a beat: 1, 2, 123. 1, 2, 123.

her arm is nudged by someone she can’t see, and her body jolts. headphones are ripped up. “wha–? what?”
they weren’t meaning to a bother. it seemed easier to keep to themselves on such a busy street, anyway. kyara blinked back for a minute, head tilting to one side. “uh -- just wonderin’ if y’have change for a five ?? the bus prices in this city are startin’ to get a little RIDICULOUS.”

THE AROMA OF flowers and wet soil swept over her with familiarity, something less foreign in the vast desolate land that surrounded them. It was too bad that Gabe hadn’t prepared her for the beauty of the woman who looked like she belonged in the blistering heat. “ Giving life in the desert is more than a specialty, it’s a gift. You’ve done something beautiful out here. ”
“well, see. now y’just suckin’ up.” but the charming smile that tugged full lips upward was just as flattered. they didn’t have time to be bashful when the other wasn’t wrong. it took a lot of hard work, blood ( not just belonging to kyara ), too many tears to feel at home in a place that looked a lot more like dying. but they belonged here. with their bright colors, venomous tongue & bright eyes that would put the sun to shame. “i wish others liked the heat as much as i did.”

His English is so-so, especially when the pain in his back is making it difficult to focus on little else, but at least hers doesn’t seem to be much better. He’s not a warrior, it’s not his tongue, but between the two of them they’re managing well enough. He watches her as best as he can and grunts when she helps him to his feet. Everything burns up and down his back, but he grits his teeth and gets his arm over her shoulders. “Lead the way.” Though this is his home, and even he doesn’t know where to go.
she was winging most of this, not that she would make it obvious. but in order to stop the bleeding, she would need the proper materials & to get him somewhere quiet where she could work without threat of another explosion. it’s difficult for her to support him but there’s no way in hell she was going to let that show. kyara led him through the woods, ducking into the underbrush with a soft hiss as she shifted a little. “it’s not much farther. how ya’ feelin’ ??”

He makes to defend himself in an instant, a sharp glance offering little but truthful enmity that often stains his insides. The ice in his eyes is easily begotten, though not personal. A person need only walk too close to the wreck of a man to receive such a stare. He’s not an idiot, Brian’s well aware it’s his fault ( isn’t it always? ), it just so happens that arrogance runs with ire and dust in his blood.
Epkeen sniffs, winces at the sudden pain in his nose ( how many times has it been broken now? ), but ultimately discards her offer of aid. He’s had worse, he notes, standing taller and less of the trembling boy he’d displayed hitherto. A shake of his head ( again, throbbing and fleeting dizziness declares such a torturous mistake ), listless arm gestured back to her, ‘ We’re alive. I’m fine, you’re still breathin’. I mean, we both look like shite, but for me that’s no change. ’ He won’t rest his weight on her; always been the one to pick himself up from the gutter. Instead, attention turns to her, ‘ You need a hospital or something? ’
hospitals. a bad idea. not only did she fucking hate them, but she had no real medical records to actually speak of. this,would undoubtedly raise more questions than she was willing to answer. she shook her head swiftly, dealing with the bout of nausea as it hit her square in the stomach. her jaw tensed, swallowing down the bile that began to rise in her throat.
“can’t do it. don’t like hospitals.” she doesn’t follow it up with any kind of explanation. merely shifts a little against his side. her hand tilts, spitting blood onto the asphalt before righting herself again as if nothing had ever happened. they couldn’t just stand here. of course, she knew that they couldn’t just stand here. not with the amount of blood seeping through the wound in her side & his broken nose. “we need t’figure somethin’ else out.”

“ agh, yer no FUN, “ color him DISAPPOINTED again. likes to do strange things when he’s bored— it’s no fun when he’s being denied the ENCOURAGEMENT. hands fidget with each other, trying to keep himself occupied. there’s often silence between them ( when he doesn’t SUGGEST SOMETHING STUPID ). doesn’t like that. silence scares him. “ ……yer EYE CANDY gave my dog peppermint to chew on. her breath smells MINTY FRESH. “
“LOOK. not judgin’ but y’can’t just shove foreign objects up your rectum. i will NOT pay ya’ medical bills.” there’s a long pause shortly after her statement, as if having to process that those words had legitimately come out of her mouth. she could have lived a -- wilder life. but this was honestly taking the cake.
“oh, y’mean GABE ?? he’s somethin’, honestly. did he have a shirt on when you came in ?? he has a habit of not wearin’ one.”

her gaze cuts through the other woman, like a tempered blade. trying to clear a path, find out where she’s going with this ‘kind gesture’ – everybody wants something, after all. everyone has an angle.
