An acquaintance hired me for a week of videography at a film festival, interviewing actors and filmmakers. She was working with a very tight budget, but I thought it would be cool to film some of these celebrities so I agreed to a dirt-cheap rate.
Because I wasn’t being paid much, I asked for two fresh hard drives to backup footage each day. She brought two drives, but she was already using one the other was full of files she asked me not to remove. I told her we would need more drives.
Sure enough, two days into filming we run out of space on one drive.
Me: Look, until we get another drive I’ll only be able to store the footage on one drive. A new drive is cheap compared to losing footage.
Client: Fine, I’ll get one today.
She does not.
We keep filming several days and I keep backing up the footage on one drive. One day I arrive back at work and she has the one drive with all our footage.
Client: It’s making a weird sound.
I plugged it in, and the drive emits the most horrendous scratching sound I’ve ever heard. It is definitely badly damaged.
Me: What happened?
Client: I was just sitting here and all of a sudden the drive JUMPED off the table and fell to the ground.
Me: Well, we can send this to a data recovery specialist but I don’t have high hopes. It’s more than likely that the footage is lost. Client: This is ridiculous! How could you BE so irresponsible?
We continued to argue about whose fault it was until I informed her that I would be contacting my lawyer. She told me that she would make ensure my career was over.
It’s a year later. Her online journal is kaput. My career is doing really well, thank you very much.

Apps To Get You Through Rough Times
Recently, things have been fairly rough for me. Everything is piling up, and merely existing throughout the day is a substantial challenge. In honor of this, I’ve crafted a list of my three favorite apps that have helped my through bad days.Â
Vent
I discovered Vent a few months ago, and I regularly turn to it when I’m feeling desperately alone. Vent allows you to share how you’re feeling. After you select an emotion that characterizes your current state, you can describe what’s happening with as much detail as you wish. You can also connect with, “listen” to (follow), or chat privately with others. Easily the best aspect of this app is the positive community. The moderation is well done, and I can always turn to the Vent community when I need to get something off my chest.
Pacifica
If you are stressed or anxious, Pacific is the app for you. I stumbled upon Pacifica about a month ago, and I could not recommend it more. Pacifica assists users with stress, anxiety, and worry through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, relaxation, and wellness. Users get to select goals (mine: “Feel less stress or anxiety”), engage in chat groups with similar users, and follow a simple daily plan. While stress and anxiety are rampant this time of year, Pacifica is an app that vows to assist you gradually. Pacifica is not a quick fix but rather a longterm guide to an improved mental state.
Calm Harm
This app is, I hope, for only a few of you. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that self-harm is something I’ve struggled with for a few years now. While I am currently doing much better, I wish that I had discovered something like Calm Harm during my darkest times. Calm Harm provides activities in four different categories (Comfort, Distract, Express, and Release) to help you resist self-harm. It’s an emergency aid for when you need to clear your mind of the impulse. While the different activities do their job well, it’s important to remember that, of course, this app is not a cure: seek help.

If you're anything like me, you'll use Google several times a day, and if you're not too computer savvy, you'll probably be using Google at its basic level. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing to be a ashamed of...
A Japanese LEGO creator has been frustrating Twitter and Flickr users with his tantalising LEGO-food creations. Going by the name Tary, he also builds Gundam robots and Star War characters, but it's the food that's led some to believe that Tary's a Master Builder.
This is what I call art.Â
