【☾𖤓】 ⸻ THE  TASTE  OF  ASH  TINGED  HIS  PALETTE,  lingering  in  the  back  of  his  throat  and  overtaking  even  the  sweetest  notes.  a  jovial  demeanour  concealed  sleepless  nights  and  shaky  hands  ;  TO  REVEAL  EITHER  WAS  WEAKNESS  ..  such  was  not  allowed  when  a  tool  was  raised  from  birth  to  stare  even  the  devil  in  the  eyes  without  their  smile  cracking.  his  role  in  the  divine  plan  was  newly  cast,  but  its  scars  would  remain  even  after  the  curtain  call.  SUCH  WAS  THE  BURDEN  OF  THE  HUNTER.  THE  EXORCIST.  THE  WITNESS.  THE  SHAMAN.  <  to  know  and  be  known  by  darkness  that  would  drive  most  mad.  >

the  list  of  people  he  could  falter  around  was  short.  hyojin  could  count  them  on  one  hand.  for  those  he  could  go  to  when  cheshire  grins  and  ink  black  eyes  haunted  his  consciousness,  however,  there  was  one.   situations  dissimilar  yet  alike  enough  to  encourage  comradery  versus  outright  disdain  ;  one  born  a  knife  —  the  other  the  pen,  but  their  purposes  would  be  as  tools  of  divine  retribution  all  the  same.  HE  FOUND  HER  IMPOSSIBLE  TO  UNDERSTAND  ..  but  a  contact  he  was  grateful  to  have  nonetheless. 

❝no,  i  don't.❞  he  began  after  a  pause,  not  yet  looking  at  the  hunter  and  instead  staring  out  into  the  crowd  of  people  passing  them  by.

(  HE  COULDN'T  EVEN  REMEMBER  WHY  HE'D  ASKED  MARCELINE  TO  JOIN  HIM  THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.  ) 

while  he  had  yet  to  cross  paths  with  them,  he  was  well  aware  that  there  were  others.  he  at  least  knew  of  other  shamans  —  albeit  far  more  experienced  —  and  figured  there  had  to  be  more  hunters  out  there  in  that  same  vein.  someone  had  to  push  back  the  darkness,  banish  malevolence,  restore  balance,  and  PURIFY  WHAT  WAS  CORRUPTED  after  all.  they  themselves  couldn't  be  everywhere  at  once,  someone  /had/  to  be  sharing  the  load. 

❝... but,  i  hope  by  the  time  its  all  said  and  done  that  we're  the  only  ones  who  have to do  it.❞  hyojin  finally  finished,  sitting  up  with  a  sigh  and  finally  regarding  marceline  with  a  smile  that  didn't  quite  meet  his  eyes.  ❝bit  naive,  isn't  it?❞

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑  𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐈𝐍  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂  𝐄𝐘𝐄  𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐒𝐎  𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆,  the  actor  thought  that  there  wasn't  much  else  that  could  shock  him.  eyes  opened  to  the  broader  world  beyond  his  small  town,  then  enlightened  further  of  the  truth  inspiring  the  fiction  he  brought  to  life  on  screen.  after  finding  himself  with  a  splitting  headache  that  knew  no  end  in  the  form  of  a  demon,  the  man  thought  that  everything  else  in  his  life  was  predictable  by  comparison.

the  divine  worked  in  mysterious  ways  and  brought  change  with  the  wind  without  prompting  or  warning,  however.  new  friendships  meant  changing  how  his  days  were  spent:  a  screen  ignored  instead  illuminated  by  text  messages.  his  apartment  now  either  filled  with  laughter  or  silent  as  its  occupant  left  for  the  day  rather  than  stay  inside.  sometimes,  those  very  same  afternoons  were  filled  with  worrying  about  the  people  he  spent  that  time  with  ..  usually,  whenever  he  learned  about  their  antics  while  he  was  away. ( well,  not  /people/  this  time  necessarily;  just  ONE. )

a  co-star  he  had  left  for  what  he  had  thought  was  only  a  few  minutes  in  hopes  of  grabbing  some  hotteok  for  the  both  of  them.  he  thought  it  would  be  a  fun,  albeit  small,  celebratory  treat  after  a  successful  day  filming.  while  raon's  mission  was  successful,  the  two  cups  held  in  both  hands  more  than  evidence  of  such.  he  began  fretting  that  somehow  he  had  taken  TOO  LONG  in  his  endeavour.  ❝—  but  you  can't  join  a  cult,  i  /JUST/  bought  us  hotteok!!❞

'that  isn't  how  that  works.'  the  softest  voice  (UNHELPFULLY)  supplied  in  the  back  of  his  mind.  as  he  so  often  did,  raon  ignored  it  and  instead  held  up  their  treats  with  a  pout.

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐀  𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐎𝐍  𝐏𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐄  𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐃  𝐇𝐈𝐒  𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘  𝐅𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐘  𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋.  like  a  child  learning  basic  rules  to  keep  themselves  safe,  the  network  executive  had  to  consciously  double  check  and  verify  if  the  strange  things  he  saw  on  a  daily  basis  were  living  or  dead.  the  eccentricities  of  man  didn't  make  it  easy  to  determine  some  days.  all  hyojin  himself  had  hoped  for  was  a  leisurely  afternoon  away  from  work  or  any  of  his  ‘other’  responsibilities  —even  perhaps  getting  a  manicure  that  would  last  longer  than  three  days  after  salt  inevitably  dried  out  his  nails.  a  small  request  ..  but  in  his  life  the  mundane  was  the  least  likely  to  occur,  he'd  come  to  accept.

the  day  had  seemed  like  it  would  be  a  positive  one  —  he'd  avoided  any  work  calls  and  even  managed  (  ENTIRELY  ON  ACCIDENT  )  to  run  into  the  leader  of  a  band  that  essentially  had  taken  over  his  work  playlist  as  of  recent.  there  was  no  secret  that  hyojin  made  himself  AWARE  OF  THOSE  NOTABLE  WITHIN  THE  INDUSTRY  with  a  particular  focus  in  music,  but  it  was  rarer  that  work  and  genuine  interest  overlapped.  professionally,  he  was  thrilled  for  the  opportunity  to  perhaps  begin  building  enough  of  a  rapport  to  invite  SAMSARA  onto  one  of  their  shows.  personally,  it  was  a  bit  of  a  thrilling  encounter  and  a  rare  opportunity  to  be  just  a  bit  of  a  fanboy.

the  joy  was  short-lived  when  in  the  midst  of  trying  not  to  make  a  fool  of  himself  (  AN  IMPOSSIBLE  LEVEL  CHALLENGE  THERE  HE  WAS  CONCERNED  ),  the  emergence  of  an  oddly  dressed  man  who  seemed  to  climb  out  of  an  entirely  different  decade  moved  into  his  line  of  sight.  the  lack  of  reaction  from  anyone  else  clued  him  in  enough  to  the  reality  of  the  matter.  while  he  should  have  been  responsible,  he  was  entirely  against  trying  to  deal  with  a  damned  ghost  on  his  one  day  off.  realizing  he  had  taken  far  too  long  to  actually  respond  to  doyeon,  hyojin  laughed  in  an  attempt  to  fill  the  air  and  rubbed  the  back  of  his  neck.

❝huh?  sorry,  i  thought  i  saw  someone  i  knew.❞  his  tone  wasn't  exactly  convincing,  but  he  opted  against  lingering  on  the  point  for  much  longer  anyhow.  ❝listen,  the  least  i  can  do  for  stopping  you  out  of  nowhere  is  offer  to  pay  for  a  coffee  or  something.  i  definitely  rambled  way  more  than  i  meant  to.❞  while  hyojin  hated  the  risk  of  coming  off  'weird'  for  the  sudden  invitation,  ideally  he  would  rather  they  /  GOT  OUT  OF  THERE  /  sooner  rather  than  later.

my job has moved its office to the seventh layer of hell so i fear i haven't really had a lot of presence of mind lately to write — asks and starters are all drafted as are replies. i'm hoping to be able to write this weekend !! my bad everyone, didn't mean to disappear as quickly as i'd appeared .. wheeze.

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐒𝐀𝐊𝐄  𝐎𝐅  𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒  𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄,  𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓  𝐓𝐎  𝐁𝐄  𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐃.  there  were  only  so  many  excuses  the  man  possessed  in  his  arsenal  to  explain  away  his  disappearances,  none  of  which  could  even  allude  to  investigating  the  hauntings  that  seemed  to  grow  in  number  as  of  late  ;  the  havoc  the  spirits  caused  seeming  to  escalate  with  each  case.  with  limited  time  to  investigate,  hyojin  was  forced  only  to  treat  the  symptoms  as  opposed  to  truly  handling  the  underlying  issue  in  the  first  place.  he  wanted  to  track  the  locations  the  items  were  purchased  at  and  find  out  where  they  originally  came  from,  but  the  balance  between  his  professional  and  spiritual  obligation  allowed  for  no  further  leniency  than  that  which  he  was  already  exhausting.

abandoning  meeting  his  coworkers  for  coffee,  instead  of  the  scent  of  coffee  and  vanilla  wrapping  itself  around  his  senses  they  were  consumed  instead  by  sulfur  —  faint,  but  nonetheless  present.   the  kitchen  was  a  MESS  between  fallen  chairs,  shattered  windows  and  dinnerware  strewn  about.  the  story  was  the  same  as  the  others  he  heard:  they  brought  home  an  'unbelievable  find'  from  an  antique  shop  and  the  night  after,  everything  had  gone  wrong.  the  statuette  responsible  had  been  smashed  before  he  even  arrived,  but  the  unease  continued  to  linger  in  the  room  as  if  someone  or  something's  return  was  not  a  potential  but  a  guarantee.  to  help,  he  did  the  one  thing  he  thought  would  /ACTUALLY/  help  —  setting  up  a  ward  to  keep  it  out  until  a  better  solution  could  be  ascertained  later.

in  all  actuality  the  ward  should  have  been  a  simple  affair.  from  what  he  had  read,  it  required  a  symbol  that  he  thought  he  could  replicate  easily.  the  man  did  not  realize,  however,  that  it  was  not  dissimilar  from  another  set  of  markings:  one  meant  to  summon  rather  than  repel.  unfortunately  for  hyojin,  he  had  been  just  a  bit  too  heavy  handed  in  his  endeavour  and  completed  the  latter.  he  raised  his  arm  to  shield  his  eyes  from  the  light  that  SHOULD  HAVE  filled  the  room,  yet  that  flash  never  came.  instead  it  began  as  an  incessant  ringing  in  his  ears,  immediate  nausea  and  an  overwhelming  feeling  of  WRONGNESS  that  gathered  in  he  pit  of  his  stomach.  the  lights  once  consistent  flickered  on  and  off  before  stopping  as  if  nothing  had  happened. 

when  he  lowered  his  arm,  rather  than  finding  the  room  as  empty  as  he  left  it  ..  there  was  a  figure  in  front  of  him.

not  a  figure.

a  man  stood  in  the  middle  of  that  very  symbol  he  had  drawn  on  the  floor.  he  couldn't  recognize  him  at  all,  but  staring  too  long  made  the  hair  stand  on  the  back  of  his  neck.  dumbfounded,  hyojin  could  only  utter  the  first  words  that  came  to  mind:

❝i .. i don' t know how to explain what  happened. this ..  wasn't  supposed  to  happen. that was supposed to be a ward — who are you!?❞

⋮〖⋆˙⟡  〗𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄  𝐖𝐀𝐒  𝐀  𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍  𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓  𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇  𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐎𝐒  𝐀-𝐘𝐄𝐎𝐍𝐆  𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐃  𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇.  If  they  had  things  too  much  in  order,  they  were      too  quick      to  turn  into  a  spiraling  mess.  The  perfect  amount  of  chaos,  actually  managed  to      bring  them  harmony.      That  fox  energy  within  them  was      too  much      to  try  and  tame.  Enough  people  had  tried  and  come  to  see  what  happened  with  that.  Now  they  were  in  a  position  where  the  chaos,  had  become      as  normal      for  them  as  their  wardrobe  was.      People  expected  it      about  them  at  this  point.  Likely  what  they  had  been  chosen  for  this  role  for.  They  certainly  didn't  have  any      formal  experience      with  acting  to  support  their  skill  getting  them  here.

❝Ah,  so  you're  the  Master  of  Villainy  now.  I'll  have  to  take  notes  then.❞  They  teased,  watching  as  he      made  room      for  them  without  even  so  much  as  a  request.  Another  gentlemen  as  it  would  turn  out.  They  liked  those.  They  were      always  fun      to  play  with.  And  some  of  the  best  people  they  knew  fit  that  exactly  description.  They  had      just  settled  in      when  he  called  their  attention  once  again,  quickly  catching  them  up  on  what      they  missed      in  their  tardiness.  Not  a  great  start,  but  nothing  they  couldn't  recover  from  with  their  winning  personality.  They  fought  that  urge  for  their  ears  to      perk  up      happy  that  the  energy  beads  they  had  this  morning  were  potent.  Helped  in      keeping  their  allusion      about  their  form  strong.  Brows  arched  when  he  revealed  himself  to  be      their  costar      and  that  curious  smile  was  replaced  with  one  that  looked  more…excited.

❝Well,  I'm  glad  that  I  bothered  to  be  late  over  what  I  was  wearing.  And  that  means  you  must  be…Raon?❞  For  someone  who  was      three-thousand      years  old.  That  was  one      they  hadn't  heard      that  they  could  recall.  ❝Quite  a  name  by  the  way.  I  like  it.  Unique…I  like  someone  unique.❞

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐈𝐅  𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄  𝐖𝐀𝐒  𝐎𝐍𝐄  𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄  𝐑𝐀𝐎𝐍  𝐅𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐃  𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐕𝐄  𝐀𝐋𝐋  𝐄𝐋𝐒𝐄,  it  was  to  meet  others  where  they  were.  he  learned  long  ago  that  not  every  cast  member  would  become  a  cherished  friend.  for  some,  it  was  a  mere  job  and  little  else.  others  saw  their  fellow  actors  as  competitors  for  the  scarce  lead  roles  that  garnered  praise  and  attention.  in  his  recent  days,  he  had  to  learn  to  ignore  the  string  of  rejection  —  not  only  for  his  own  sanity,  but  for  the  WRATH  that  lied  just  underneath  the  skin  which  itched  for  an  excuse  to  overtake  his  sensibilities  and  lash  out  (  even  when  ..  or  rather,  /especially  when/  it  was  by  no  means  warranted  ).

banter  from  the  very  start  was  a  rarity,  but  it  guaranteed  disarming  raon  of  apprehension  and  left  him  smiling  and  laughing  in  earnest  instead.  ❝ah,  i  don't  know  ..  are  you  sure  you  meet  the  qualifications  to  be  my  apprentice?  just  this  morning,  i  didn't  bother  folding  my  laundry  —  truely  HEINOUS  behaviour.  i'd  bet  the  authorities  are  searching  for  me  as  we  speak.❞  came  his  almost  immediate  response,  eyes  crinkled  with  mirth.  wanting  to  give  the  other  the  proper  attention  they  deserved,  he  pushed  off  the  back  of  the  couch  and  leaned  forward.  although  it  meant  now  needing  to  look  up  at  the  other  rather  than  remaining  at  eye  level,  he  found  he  didn't  quite  mind  it  at  all  ;  small  sacrifices  in  exchange  for  good  company.

at  the  mention  of  the  actual  reason  for  their  tardiness,  raon  couldn't  help  but  quirk  a  brow.  ❝what  i'm  hearing  is  prepare  to  be  OUT-DRESSED  during  the  press  tour,  got  it.❞  the  comment  was  good-natured,  no  true  upset  to  be  found.  ❝though,  i'm  pretty  sure  we're  doing  fittings  today.❞  he  added,  both  as  a  warning  and  out  of  amusement  at  the  situation  itself.  ❝that  would  be  me,  your  lovely  COSTAR  and  newfound  villain-y  coach.  though,  i  still  have  no  idea  how  my  parents  came  up  with  'raon',  i  always  thought  i  looked  more  like  a  'minjae'..❞  his  voice  trailed  off,  evidence  that  he'd  erred  more  into  rambling  territory  than  intended.  ❝anyway,  i'm  looking  forward  to  working  with  you.  this  is  your  acting  debut,  right?❞

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄  𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐎'𝐒  𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄  𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐋𝐄  𝐎𝐅  𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐈,  a  life  led  under  the  heel  of  a  skeptic  ensured  his  concerns  always  went  ignored  or  debated.  the  industry  was  a  feast  laid  out  for  the  spirits  that  craved  suffering,  desperation  letting  their  claws  sink  into  even  the  most  purehearted  of  individuals.  overworked  editors,  idol  trainees  working  themselves  to  the  bone  after  one  bad  critique  ..  over  and  over,  hyojin  watched  the  shadows  overtake  them  —  their  eyes  dimming  as  their  grins  widened  unnaturally.  yet  his  pleas  to  allow  someone  to  rest  get  ignored.  hell,  even  telling  his  father  he  had  a  bad  feeling  about  filming  locations  resulted  in  being  taken  off  a  project.

so  no  —  he  understood  well  the  burden  of   being  called  a  fool  when  he  was  the  only  one  enlightened  in  the  room.  the  words  sat  at  the  tip  of  his  tongue,  months  of  frustration  making  him  more  impulsive  than  he  otherwise  would  be  about  the  truth.  his  rational  side  tried  to  keep  him  from  speaking,  never  knowing  who  was  safe  and  who  would  be  a  danger.  truthfully  he  knew  samjo  only  in  reputation  and  not  personally  ;  OMEN  appeared  on  their  music  shows  too  regularly  for  the  network  representative  /not/  to  notice  him,  after  all.  hyojin  usually  took  great  care  in  ensuring  any  visiting  artists  were  cared  for  well,  but  his  day  had  been  poorly  to  say  the  least  ..  enough  that  his  TEMPER  led  first  and  his  MIND  second.

❝you  don't  even  know  the  half.❞  he  answered  finally,  his  voice  gruff  as  if  he  had  to  force  the  words  out.  even  now,  the  man  found  it  hard  to  speak  the  truth  aloud  —  years  of  condemnation  of  his  mother's  work  as  a  mudang  building  up  a  wall  of  trepidation  that he had  yet  to  scale.  ❝if  you  would  stop  making  assumptions  about  me,  you  would  realize  that  /I  WASN'T  COMING  OVER  HERE  TO  JUDGE  YOU/.❞  taking  a  moment  to  breathe,  hyojin  inhaled  then  exhaled,  eyes  fluttering  shut  momentarily  until  his  heart  rate  slowed  enough  that  he  could  trust  himself  to  stop  risking  their  relationship  with  one  of  their  best  clients.

❝look,  i  spend  most  of  my  life  seeing  the  inexplicable.❞  shifting  his  gaze  back  towards  samjo,  he  forced  his  shoulders  to  ease  before  continuing.  the  admission  tasted  like  bile  in  his  throat,  but  it  was  too  late  to  stop  now.  ❝i  wasn't  asking  so  many  questions  about  what  you  saw  because  i  was  making  fun  of  you.  i  was ..  i'm  trying  to  confirm  that  we  both  saw  the  same  thing  because  if  so,  i  cannot  let  you  walk  on  that  set  knowing  this  means  you  won't  be  safe  —  solo  schedules  be  damned.❞ 

samjo  very  well  could  have  been  dealing  with  an  unruly  intern  or  a  staff  member  that  had  a  worse  attitude  that  he  himself  had  earlier.  really  ..  yet  the  risk  of  something  else  being  amiss  —  someone  acting  uncharacteristic,  even  a  set  piece  inexplicably  breaking  that  had  been  sturdy  just  before  —  overrode  any  apprehensions  he  otherwise  had.  ❝so,  let's  start  over.  i'm  hyojin,  i'm  the  network  representative  who  is  on  site  for  this  variety  show  shooting.  no  matter  how  ‘insane’  it  sounds,  tell  me  what  happened.❞

【☾𖤓】⸻𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄  𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐅𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐄𝐃  𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄  𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐃  𝐅𝐀𝐑  𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃  𝐇𝐈𝐌.  the  denial  of  his  senses  came  at  the  price  of  UNINTENTIONALLY  teaching  himself  to  distrust  them.  had  he  been  a  more  honest  man,  his  hand  wouldn't  have  been  revealed  so  easily.  his  gaze  remained  locked  on  the  grotesque  figure  on  the  ground,  forfeiting  any  opportunity  to  claim  he  didn't  see  anything.  limbs  contorted  unnaturally,  the  'man'  (  if  one  could  call  him  such  any  longer  )  looked  to  be  a  horrific  rendition  of  a  human,  limbs  sickly  thin  and  elongated.  the  ripped  clothing  hanging  off  the  body  identified  them  as  some  sort  of  office  employee,  a  tag  hanging  off  a  threadbare  blazer  showcasing  an  employee  image  that  looked  nothing  like  what  twitched  in  front  of  them.

this  was  the  legacy  he  inherited:  his  mother's  gift  allowing  him  to  see  what  others  were  blind  to  ;  for  them,  that  lack  was  a  mercy  from  the  heavens  in  his  own  opinion.  no  matter  how  many  times  it  happened,  hyojin  wondered  if  he  would  ever  get  used  to  seeing  humanity  warped  into  something  twisted  right  before  his  eyes.  he  hadn't  been  looking  for  trouble  this  time.  the  sound  of  shattering  glass  led  him  to  investigate  what  he  thought  was  a  simple  robbery.  a  smarter  person  might  have  kept  walking,  phoning  the  police  rather  than  risking  their  lives  by  meddling  in  an  in-progress  crime.  for  his  brilliance  in  a  board  room,  hyojin  wore  naivety  on  his  sleeve  outside  of  it.

breathing  was  difficult  when  the  air  caught  in  his  throat,  too  thick  to  make  its  way  down  to  his  is  lungs  when  his  entire  being  stood  terrified  that  just  a  flinch  could  warrant  provocation.  some  sense  bled  through  the  terror,  a  realization  dawning  on  him  that  had  him  whipping  his  head  around  to  face  a-yeong  despite  his  earlier  reservations  at  risking  moving  even  a  mere  centimeter.  ❝A-YEONG?  why  are  you   here  —  wait,  you  can  see  them  too?❞  the  question  was  spoken  barely  above  a  whisper.  confusion  etched  its  way  onto  his  features  as  hyojin's  brows  furrowed.  while  it  had  not  been  long  since  he'd  found  himself  given  the  ability  to  see  spirits  and  demons,  the  knowledge  that  it  was  an  uncommon  ability  was  something  he  had  to  come  to  terms  with  quickly.  simply  put:  he  couldn't  tell  others,  not  without  risking  his  coworkers  and  friends  both  rewarding  his  honesty  with  a  wide  berth  and  social  isolation.

rather  than  feeling  any  kind  of  comfort  at  knowing  he  wasn't  forced  to  witness  the  madness  alone,  it  made  him  wonder  /  WHY  /  a-yeong  could  see  them  too.  realizing  he  had  looked  away  far  too  long,  he  reluctantly  turned  back  towards  the  elephant  in  the  room.  fortunately  their  'guest'  hadn't  moved,  continuing  to  twitch  and  almost  vibrate  in  place.  the  silence  of  the  room  and  the  absurdity  of  the  situation  forced  him  to  replay  the  other's  statement  in  his  mind  a  second  time,  words  once  glossed  over  now  properly  dissected.  while  he  didn't  turn  and  face  the  other  a  second  time,  he  regarded  them  verbally  all  the  same.  ❝i'm  going  to  need  a  little  more  of  an  explanation  here .❞  he  began,  weighing  his  response.  ❝what  do  you  mean  he  /SHOULD/  be  dead!?❞

all  the  while,  as  if  affronted  for  being  neglected  in  conversation  the  man's  spindly  fingers  dug  themselves  into  the  ground,  piercing  the  wood  underfoot.  the  scratching  sound  echoed  in  the  small  space.  if  the  goal  was  for  the  figure  to  announce  its  presence  once  again,  it  was  successful  (  not  that  it  was  so  easy  to  ignore  in  the  first  place  ).   hyojin  reached  into  his  bag  in  hopes  he  might  have  something  on  his  person;  if  not  a   talisman,  then  at  least  some  salt.  as  minor  a  solution  as  it  was,  even  if  it  proved  useless  he  at  least  would  have  felt  better.  to  his  frustration,  all  he  produced  was  a tiny  salt  packet  from  the  burger  place  he'd  stopped  at  earlier  that wouldn't  do  much  of  anything  and  a  near  empty  lighter.  ❝shit.❞

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐒  𝐈𝐓  𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐃  𝐓𝐎  𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐃  𝐎𝐍𝐄'𝐒  𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄  𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐎𝐔𝐓  𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐒.  in  the  back  of  his  mind  he  had  almost  prepared  for  it,  catching  the  mischievous  glint  in  a-yeong's  eyes  as  he  stopped  in  to  visit  and  check  in  on  them.  hyojin's  father  had  made  it  clear  that  those  affiliated  with  LUCIFER  ENTERTAINMENT  were  to  receive  the  best  care  —  of  course,  by  that  he  meant  that  the  (  aspiring  )  shaman  would  be  the  provider  of  said  hospitality  ;  encouraged  TOLD  to  make  himself  available  at  /most/  times.  he  figured  that entailed   running  errands  or  curating  a  snack  table. of course,  reality  was  often  far  more  intriguing  than  the  fiction  that  based  itself  around  it. 

his expectations for a dull afternoon  changed  entirely  when  he  turned  his  back  for  but  a  few  minutes  and  came  up  with  empty  space  where  his  charge  had  been  right after turning back around.

with  all  the  gusto  of  a  frenzied  intern,  he  braved  burgundy  walls  and  grey  carpet  while  running  from  set  to  set  to  find  out  where  a-yeong  had  gone.  hyojin  painted  a  curious  picture  as  his  tie  waved  through  the  air  like  a  banner  raised  upon  a  windy  battlefield.  or  ..  well  ..  that  was  the  internal  image  he  held  onto,  that  is.  in  truth,  he  looked  much  more  akin  to  an  inflatable  man  trying  to  advertise  a  used  car  sale  in  the  midst  of  a  hurricane,  but  his  ego  had  already  too  much  damage  for  him  to  be  willing  to  accept  that  reality.  hyojin  wasn't  sure  what  kind  of  explanation  he  had  expected  once  he  finally  did  find  the  idol,  but  the idea  that  it  was  to  get  his  attention  in  particular  had  never  crossed  his  mind.

the  smack  of  a  tie  and  a  voice  that  was  hard  not  to  recognize  slowed  his  steps.  the  young  man  blinked  somewhat  dumbly,  staring  at  the  idol  as  if  there  were  something  on  their  person  that  might  answer  the  multitude  of  questions  he  had.  ❝there  has  to  be  an  easier  way  to  get  my  attention.❞  he  returned,  equal  parts  endeared  and  incredulous.  while  he  painted  the  picture  of  sophistication  in  board  meetings  and  greeting  their  performers  and  guests,  HYOJIN  ADMIRED  SPONTENITY  IN  OTHERS  MORE  THAN  STABILITY.  despite  of  that,  it  wasn't  just  his  own  time  getting  impacted  —  they  were  about  to  cause  a  FILMING  DELAY  if  they  dawdled  for  much  longer.

with  that  in  mind,  hyojin  held  his  arms  out  to  gesture  towards  himself.  ❝alright,  well  ..  i'm  here  now?  i  have  ..  ten  minutes  and  a  clipboard  —  i'm  afraid  you've  caught  me  a  little  unprepared.❞
