well, i did not mean to disappear off the face of the earth but it's for good reason at least. the aforementioned job reached a toxicity point that wasn't really tolerable anymore, so i've been more so in survival mode which has made it hard to really do much of anything, much less write.

i'm coming back soon, i've had to make those tough life adjustment decisions .. no one is being ignored, everything from asks to replies and starters are sitting in my drafts — just let me get settled enough to really write and properly become part of this community like i'd meant to initially.

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐎  𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄  𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐓  𝐀𝐒  𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒  𝐎𝐅  𝐀𝐍  𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓  𝐀𝐒  𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒  𝐎𝐅  𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐃.  the  'silver  linings'  seemed  to  grow  smaller  and  more  insignificant  while  the  consequences  rose  tremendously.  raon  found  he  had  more  bad  days  than  good  [...]  too  many  mornings  waking  up  miles  from  home  with  no  recollection  of  how  he  had  gotten  there.  to  endure  meant  to  make  peace  with  the  hours  lost  ;  that  his  battle  may  have  been  a  losing  one,  but  he'd  rather  go  down  fighting  than  accept  it  it  for  what  it  was.

his  brows  furrowed  before  he  could  school  his  expression,  perturbed  to  see  the  other  ready  to  throw  in  the  towel  when  it  was,  in  his  opinion,  much  too  soon.  in  truth,  the  actor  had  been  shooting  down  her  ideas  for  the  better  part  of  half  an  hour.  a  'simple'  (  as  if  they  were  ever  so  predictable  )  possession  brought  them  together  again  although  for  once  it  wasn't  his  own.  the  beast  within  had  damned  another,  inviting  something  evil  into  their  home  under  the  false  guise  of  salvation.  he  felt  responsible  for  it  but  being  neither  hunter  not  exorcist,  contending  with  possession  —  for  once  not  his  own  —  required  him  to  seek  out  actual  assistance.

unfortunately,  it  seemed  his  ideas  of  how  to  handle  the  situation  and  the  hunter's  differed  greatly.  of  course  it  didn't  help  that  his  own  words  couldn't  always  be  /trusted/  no  matter  how  much  he  swore  he  was  in  control  of  his  facilities.  he  was  sure  that  had  at  least  partial  blame  to  their  inability  to  see  eye  to  eye.  ❝they  aren't  too  far  gone!  there's  ..  there's  exorcism  rites  and  such,  right?  no  one  has  to  die  yet!  it's  ..  it's  only  been  a  few  days,  surely  they  can  still  be  separated.❞  despite  his  pleading,  he  had  seen  himself  the  depths  of  the  corruption.  while  raon  still  had  his  clarity  [...]  the  man  he  was  trying  to  save  was  no  longer  recognizable.

perhaps  that  was  why  he  was  so  desperate  —  part  of  himself  recognized  that  could  be  him  one  day.  /  in  truth,  it  frankly  already  was.  /   he  fell  quiet  after  a  few  moments,  shutting  his  eyes  and  taking  a  deep  breath  to  calm  his  nerves.  shutting  the  book  he  had  been  reviewing  for  research  between  himself  and  marceline,  he  turned  back  towards  his  companion  with  a  frown  and  a  crease  between  his  brows  much  deeper  than  when  he  first  started  to  speak.  ❝the  only  thing  i  can  control  right  now  is  trying  to  fix  whatever  catastrophes  /HE/  causes  [...]  if  there  is  some  way  we  all  can  come  out  of  this  alive,  then  we  have  to  try  it.  if  that  doesn't  work,  then  […]  we'll  do  things  your  way  —  i  won't  fuss  or  complain,  i  promise.❞

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐄𝐑  𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒  𝐇𝐀𝐃  𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑  𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍  𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐍.  hyojin  knew  not  even  a  gift  that  he  had  been  given  that  hadn't  come  with  strings.  even  a  smile  came  with  a  debt  to  pay  following  it,  if  not  in  currency  then  in  labour.  a  life  led  transactionally  left  little  room  for  real  connections  [...]  but  he  endeavored  to  do  all  he  could  to  avoid  making  others  feel  so  far  removed  from  humanity  as  he  found  himself  most  days.  a  sigh  passed  through  pink-tinted  lips,  glossy  albeit  chapped  after  what  was  likely  a  third  re-application  just  that  afternoon.

concealed  in  his  back  pocket  were  tickets  ;  nothing  too  extravagant  by  any  measure  when  compared  to  his  usual  haunts.  neither  opera  nor  black  tie  event,  rather  —  a  local  art  show,  hosted  by  an  unknown  artist  who  was  practically  giving  them  away  after  hyojin  had  grabbed  two  tickets  himself.  for  the  idol,  he  figured  that  anywhere  more  heavily  populated  risked  too  much  attention  [...]  a  smaller  art  gallery  with  paint  flaking  off  the  walls  seemed  likelier  a  place  they  could  venture  into  unbothered.  ❝i  spend  too  many  hours  in  the  office  trading  favors,  i  promise  i  don't  have  any  intentions  of  doing  that  in  my  free  time.❞  he  assured.

perhaps  it  was  a  bit  of  a  silly  idea  in  hindsight  ;  an  impulsive  one,  undoubtedly.  yet  peace  was  so  spare  as  of  late  that  something  as  simple  as  looking  over  someone's  paintings  in  near-privacy  seemed  too  good  of  an  opportunity  to  pass  up.  ❝i'm  not  here  to  drag  you  on  a  show  or  anything.  i  was  […]  sort  of  wondering  if  you  were  free  for  something  off  the  record  this  time.❞  hyojin  began  explaining,  finally  reaching  back  until  fingertips  met  cardstock.  he  brandished  the  tickets  at  frenchie,  laughing  a  bit  at  his  own  flourish  as  he  did  so.

❝i  don't  know  a  thing  about  modern  art,  but   the  collection  seemed  interesting  and  the  popcorn  smelled  good  from  outside.  care  to  look  at  some  incredibly  abstract  paintings  and  pretend  we're  normal  for  a  few  hours?❞

【☾𖤓】 ⸻ 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒  𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄  𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄  𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍  𝐇𝐈𝐒  𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐑𝐘  𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐄𝐃  𝐀𝐍  𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐑𝐘.  with  what  felt  like  hundreds  of  places  to  be  in  a  short  span  of  time,  paying  attention  to  his  surroundings  was  the  least  of  the  young  man's  concerns.  perhaps  if  he  had,  he  may  have  had  the  time  to  side  step  out  of  the  way  before  a  collision  sent  a  drink  splashing  against  his  (  thankfully  black  )  shirt.  immediately  he  was  grateful  to  find  it  was  cold,  though  gratitude  ended  when  to  his  misfortune  a  piece  of  ice  slipped  between  the  buttons  and  made  its  home  on  his  stomach.  a  not  indignant  but  surely  not  pleasant  noise  caught  in  his  throat  as  he  flinched,  all  hope  at  maintain  some  air  of  grace  lost  in  the  process.

❝bit  of  an  understatement.❞  hyojin  quipped,  tone  neither  harsh  nor  friendly  —  resigned  annoyance,  more  like.  he  had  yet  to  look  up  from  the  fabric  darkened  by  the  other's  beverage.  it  wasn't  one  of  his  favourite  shirts  thankfully,  but  it  was  one  he  opted  to  wear  for  meetings.  much  like  the  ones  he  was  going  to  have  to  be  late  to  now  that  he  was  soaked.  as  irritated  as  he  felt  at  having  his  tightly  packed  schedule  interrupted,  unloading  on  someone  else  didn't  make  it  any  better.  ❝i  don't  suppose  you've  any  napkins  on  you,  do  you-❞  he  began  to  ask,  finally  looking  up  and  pausing  after  he  did.

perhaps  it  was  a  good  thing  he  minded  his  temper  [...]  the  last  damn  thing  he  needed  was  to  snap  on  the  very  same  CEO  he  was  supposed  to  be  meeting  with  in  half  an  hour.

【☾𖤓】  ⸻  𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌  𝐀  𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄  𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃𝐘  (  not  literally,  though  it  could  have  been  in  their  case  )  that  it  was  a  certain  fox's  birthday,  the  immediacy  with  which  raon  felt  the  need  to  celebrate  bordered  on  comical.  the  pile  of  boxes  meticulously  decorated  and  wrapped  in  ribbon  might  have  been  a  tad  excessive,  but  he'd  argue  it  looked  lacking  otherwise  ..  and  he  certainly  could  have  done  worse.  he  brandished  the  lot  of  it  as  best  as  he  could,  leaning  his  head  out  to  peek  around  the  large  stack  of  knick  knacks,  stuffed  toys,  and  shiny  statuettes  that  caught  his  eye  ;  all  carefully  tucked  away  in  each  vividly-coloured  package.

while  they  had  agreed  to  meet  up  briefly,  raon  simply  claimed  he  was  treating  the  other  to  a  quick  and  easy  lunch  with  what  little  time  they  had  —  he  figured  a-yeong  was  about  to  be  busy  for  most  of  the  day  and  he  himself  had  things  scheduled  later  that  afternoon,  after  all.  he  just  ...  casually  left  out  the  part  about  rivaling  the  lavish  displays  of  a  department  store  with  the  (  surprisingly  well-balanced  )  tower  of  trinkets  in  hand.  perking  up  the  moment  the  other  arrived.   ❝happy  birthday!  at  least,  i  really  hope  today  is  your  birthday  and  that  i  didn't  get  the  dates  on  the  calendar  mixed  up,  otherwise  the  birthday  card  is  about  to  be  really  embarrassing.❞

【☾𖤓】⸻𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘  𝐎𝐅𝐓  𝐊𝐄𝐏𝐓  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆  𝐌𝐀𝐍  𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃.  still,  there  was  a  particular  CONFIDENCE  that  when  he  took  on  a  role,  he  knew  the  character  he  was  meant  to  play  inside  and  out  by  the  time  he  stepped  on  set  for  filming.  a  script  littered  in  ink,  notated  meticulously  along  margins  and  highlighted  where  he  thought  necessary.  while  acting  was  his  /  JOB  /  he  considered  himself  as  much  a  storyteller  who  was  tasked  to  read  between  the  lines  and  give  life  to  a  concept  on  a  page,  filling  out  the  blanks  that  were  left  to  the  interpretation  of  the  puppeteer.

authenticity  above  all  else  was  what  he  sought  to  achieve  and  while  he  wouldn't  begin  to  consider  himself  a  romance  actor,  there  was  a  level  of  intimacy  to  this  concept  in  particular  —  one  he  couldn't  fully  be  convinced  was  unintentional  —  that  had  him  caught  up  on  the  finer  details  more  than  he  usually  would  be.  the  instructions  bid  he  go  left  while  the  character  screamed  to  turn  right  instead.  love  written  to  be  platonic  yet  in  the  same  breath  forming  a  vow  that  mirrored  those  spoken  at  an  altar,  if  not  eclipsing  them  in  promised  devotion.

a  mistake  had  allowed  him  the  opportunity  for  an  admission  he  hadn't  been  entirely  convinced  needed  vocalizing.  yet,  finding  his  interpretation  wasn't  one-sided  made  him  feel  better,  the  reassurance  that  he  hadn't  been  reading  too  deeply  into  things  and  misinterpreting  the  scene.  in  truth,  a-yeong  made  it  easier  to  /play/  with  the  world  they  were  creating  —  a  shared  interest  in  the  broader  universe  and  their  part  in  it  rather  than  the  confines  of  their  immediate  stories  making  it  easier  to  have  discussions  like  this  [  ...  ]  though,  perhaps  not  in  such  close  quarters  as  it  were  this  time.

in  a  way  it  made  raon  giddy  to  find  someone  so  likeminded  (  or,  perhaps  just  more  willing  to  humour  him  than  one  generally  should  ),  albeit  concerned  to  push  a-yeong  too  far.  by  no  means  did  he  mean  to  be  the  catalyst  for  their  first  foray  into  acting  to  be  their  potential  last.  even  if  his  co-star  struck  him  as  the  type  who  would  sooner  rebel  than  be  forced  into  a  box  they  couldn't  shape  themself.  truly,  it  should  not  have  come  as  a  surprise  to  anyone  when  they  fell  in  step  with  the  ease  of  a  duo  that  had  played  off  each  other  countless  times   before  on  set.  he  hoped,  dimly,  that  one  day  may  yet  be  true.

the  ghost  of  a  touch  that  never  came  left  his  lashes  fluttering,  the  man  not  quite  gasping  but  feeling  himself  close  to  it  as  their  gazes  met.  he  could  see  it  clearly  —  the  dreary  room,  darkness  and  fear  nipping  at  their  heels  as  two  who  felt  their  world  falling  apart  clung  to  each  other  one  last  time  before  facing  whatever  their  fates  were  meant  to  be  together.  promises  spoken  that  concealed  the  deeper  meaning  underneath,  coveyed  all  in  an  expression  that  said  everything  they  couldn't  afford  to.  agreement  made  a  tiny  smile  pull  as  his  lips  as  he  nodded.

❝i  think  you're  onto  something.❞  he  agreed  finally,  trying  not  to  vibrate  with  the  excitement  of  finding  exactly  what  had  felt  so  absent.  ❝they're  standing  on  the  precipice  of  everything  changing.  the  body  can  be  damaged,  the  heart  weakened,  the  mind  altered  ..  but  the  soul  is  the  one  thing  they  can  still  protect  with  everything  they've  left.❞  with  that,  raon  took  a  step  closer  to  a-yeong  and  raised  his  hand  a  second  time,  maintaining  the  same  distance  as  he  lifted  it  near  the  other's  cheek.  close  enough  for  warmth  to  radiate  but  he  dared  not  allow  skin  to  meet  skin.  he  glanced  across  their  face  as  if  searching  for  something  before  his  shoulders  fell.

❝if  i  were  to  pledge  myself  to  protect  someone's  soul  even  if  it  meant  clawing  my  way  to  hell  to  get  it  back,  then  i  think…❞  he  spoke,  letting  his  hand  hover  in  the  space  between  them  before  dropping  it  finally.  ❝…rather  than  thinking  about  the  horrors  outside,  i'd  want  this  moment  to  memorize  the  face  of  the  one  i  was  so  willing  to  die  for,  their  eyes  and  that  very  /soul/  that  made  them  who  they  were.  my  vow  would   be  spoken  directly  to  you  and  not  the  situation  itself.❞  he  confessed,  head  lulling  to  the  side  curiously.  ❝it  makes  everything  we  aren't  ready  to  say  louder  than  the  words  we  actually  speak  aloud.❞  at  that  point  raon  was  musing  aloud,  only  catching  himself  at  the  very  end.

this  time  the  actor  really  did  gasp,  taking  a  step  back  and  waving  his  hands  in  front  of  himself  apologetically  for  getting  right  into  the  other's  space  without  so  much  as  asking  for  permission  first.  truthfully  he  had  gotten  caught  up  in  the  impromptu  scene,  but  he  still  thought  it  far  too  inappropriate  without  discussion  first.  ❝sorry,  i  wasn't  thinking!❞  he  was  equal  parts  horrified  and  embarrassed  about  it,  moving  backwards  a  bit  more  for  good  measure.  ❝i  got  a  little  caught  up  in  the  whole  scene.❞  desperately  he  tried  to  gesture  between  the  both  of  them,  his  remorse  at  least  genuine.  ❝it  makes  sense  though,  right?❞
