this was everything they had long dreamt of. feeling tai close within their embrace , safe from further wounds being inflicted on heart. it was insufferable , selfish of them to stand idly on sidelines as they watched someone they adored continue to get hurt. it was a long anticipated , overdue confession that they had owed the other. every square inch of their heart had been wrapped in gentle care , and it was about time that they showed opposite what kind of proper , genuine nurture they had always deserved. apples of cheeks feel warm at their touch , eyelashes fluttering shut as they simply bask in this moment. that was until they were met with the cold draft of space between them again , apologies that flow from the lips they once kissed sinking darts between aching chest. “ w-wait … no , that’s not fair —— ” they step in closer , expressions twisted and reading with both hurt and confusion. “ she has made you miserable up until now. i haven’t seen you smile the way you just did , for me , in i don’t even know how long. forget about her , tai. ” obviously much easier said than done , digits that extend outward desperately clinging to petite fingers as they plead. “ so what ? you can’t do this to her , but you can do it to me ? ” voice cracks as a scoffed breath escapes pout , squeezing the hand in which they held. “ if you know we would be good , why would you give that up ? why would you go back to her when you could be safe with me ? ”
voice cracks echoing into eardrums feeling like daggers through fast beating heart , trembling hands hiding behind back as twiddling digits could not stay still . feelings often were pushed down in tai’s experience and going through this naked vulnerability felt foreign —— unnatural even and letting all of this fall onto them all at once grew new yet familiar weights upon shoulders that buried entire body into such heaviness . the repetitive switch between winds and sentiments becoming unbearable , and while tai knew nothing of routines , even they could admit it was a tad much . muscles tightened and heart weighing heavy in chest , the doe-eyed was at a loss for words yet again . as little as it happened , tai had gone through this sensation a lifetime amount in that single moment . ‘ not fair ’ was correct and hatred for themselves reemerging once more with emotionless stares introduced onto features as a way to mask it . “ nothing is ever fair in life . ” barely a whisper however fully audible . skylar was right in every single sense of the word because little did they know tai consistently shoved away any constant thought of finally being happy by their side . yet there they stood , another way tai was hurting the most important person they had in their life . and to say they had an explanation behind it would be a blatant lie . met with a quiet response at first as they attempted to seek out for the proper words to reply with . “ i don’t know , ” one of the most sincere phrases falling from sore lips . “ i don’t know , sky . what if what we pursue isn’t what we need ? ” big fear slipping out in trembling voice . “ i couldn’t bear to lose you . ”
