What I cannot stand is the Hellers, who insist their ship is canon, that Dean is bi (he’s not) and harass the actors, writers, and producers that it must be made canon.

Jensen Ackles Said Something Stupid About Destiel aka Jensen Ackles Said Something ANTI Destiel.

Hellers have NO respect for Jensen unless he says something that they can twist into being pro destiel.

Destiel was real, and ultimately intended by roughly half the people writing the scripts. It was not imagined, or in fandom’s head, and it is canonically a core theme within the show Oh really? Where's the proof of this delusion statement? Yeah, I'm not waiting for it, take your time heller, because it doesn't exist.

And yeah, there are likely more folks who prefer Destiel because the incest thing squicks a lot of people (cowards imo), but Wicest existed first and persists to this day.

But, yeah regardless of all that, please stop asking Jensen about Destiel. He knows who he is and who he played Dean as, and it's not something that needs to be fixed with therapy. And this insistence that he's somehow really in the closet about either Dean or himself is rude af.

The rumour about Jensens sexuality actually didnt come from Hellers this time (a shocker ikr), but recently some people think he is gay because of his "loveless" marriage with his wife (for the loveless part you would need to deep dive into the janeel tag) and that he is using that marriage as a cover up.

Others think that because of how he acts in recent shows with female co workers. They dont see the spark in intimate scenes or something like that so they think there is no spark because he isnt attracted to women. (I did hear that he stated he wasnt comfortable with intimate scenes anymore not bc he is gay but because he just doesnt like it anymore).

Or some people simpy never saw him as a straight man. I personally dont think any of this is proof that he is gay? He also stated once that he is a ladies lover just like Dean is so i belive his words more about his identity and sexuality than rumours which is logical.

And like, even if this was intended as a joke, this is not a rational reaction to an actor not going along with your ship. And Jensen wasn't saying not to ship it, either. He was just saying, again, that he played Dean as a straight guy who was not in love love with either Castiel or Sam. Both Destiel and Wincest are fanon ships.

Canon gave us Castiel, right before he died, telling Dean that he loved him and had found true happiness in just fully accepting that fact about himself, but that Dean could not reciprocate... because he did not reciprocate.

Canon then gave us Dean, right before he died, telling Sam that he loved him and that everything had always been about the two of them being together and he'd been so happy that Sam had chosen to stick by him through it all. Because Sam was the love of Dean's life, not in a romantic way, just in Dean's own weird way and that was just what it was. Brothers.

If you ship Destiel and want it to be the "most iconic love story ever told," then run with that. But that really, truly was not what the show was about... And that's okay. Ship it anyway.

I don't put much stock in what the actor men say because actors rarely watch their own shows, especially not a 15 season one. He's only aware of his own scenes for the most part. I put more stock in the writers takes which we know put in romantic parallels on purpose.

Also, you can't hurt me with seeing it as non-romantic because I'm aromantic and a platonic bond/soulmate still has a whole lot of weight.

Like it or not, Destiel is just a ship just like Wincest is just a ship. They are both fictional ships based off of the relationships presented in the actual show. Neither of them was any more canon than the other. Because if we're talking about the writers putting in romantic parallels then we are also, very much talking about Wincest, too. The show is FILLED with Sam and Dean being compared to romantic couples, and being mistaken as a gay couple. It happens a few times a season, including during the first three seasons before Cas was introduced.

If you like imagining that Cas and Dean were actually in love love, that's fine, but that was no more a part of the show than Sam and Dean being in love love.

So what Jensen said was that Destiel is just a ship, just like Wincest is just a ship. And then he said that he is fine with fans shipping the characters and thinks it's great that we find inspiration in the show to create so many stories based off it.

But y'all need to get down off your high horse, your ship is no better or more morally pure than any other. The puritanical conflation of fiction somehow equaling reality has gotten beyond ridiculous at this point.

He was reiterating that a ship is a fanfiction convention and as such, doesn’t automatically relate to the canon. Because in fandom, we write/draw what we please. Friendly reminder that Jensen was just the actor, not a writer or the showrunner. The actual writers of the show have confirmed and shown the exact opposite: yes, Dean did reciprocate.

There are multiple deliberate parallels between Dean and Cas and other couples on the show, which clearly confirm that their relationship was written romantically.

In the final season, the writers repeatedly used Sam and Eileen’s romantic relationship as a mirror for Dean and Cas’s. One example: when Eileen tells Sam she doesn’t know what’s real anymore because of Chuck, Sam kisses her and says “I know that was real.” This directly mirrors the scene earlier in the season where Dean tells Cas that nothing in their lives is real because of Chuck, and Cas replies, “You asked what about all of this is real? We are.”

Another clear parallel: Sam loses Eileen and Dean loses Cas literally in the same episode, 15x18. In fact, the entire episode where Castiel confesses was built around characters losing their love interests, starting with Charlie losing Stevie, specifically to set up and mirror Dean losing Cas at the end. The writers genuinely could not have made it any clearer.

On top of that, they introduced Adam and Serafina — a human and an angel who were deeply in love — literally one episode before Castiel’s confession. That was obviously not accidental. It was clear foreshadowing and an extremely direct parallel to Dean and Castiel. Everyone knows the biblical Adam and Eve story, but Supernatural deliberately changed the narrative specifically to mirror Dean and Cas — a human and an angel, just like Adam and Serafina.

They did the exact same thing with Cain. They didn’t even cast an actor to play Abel. Instead, they created an entirely new character, Colette, Cain’s great love, specifically so she could mirror Castiel in Dean’s life. Cain literally tells Dean, “You’re living my life in reverse,” and says that Dean will kill Cas first and then Sam. Since Cain killed his brother first and then his love interest, Dean living the story in reverse means Cas is his Colette (the love interest) and Sam is his Abel (the brother). That was extremely explicit. That is not subtext — that is text.

And finally, in episode 15x19, right after Cas’s confession and death, Lucifer impersonates Cas in order to manipulate Dean into letting him in. That is the ultimate confirmation that Dean reciprocated. The show had already established Lucifer’s consistent method: he always impersonates the person’s dead love interest in order to manipulate them into letting him in. He did it with Nick by impersonating his dead wife Sarah, with Sam by impersonating Jessica, his dead girlfriend, and with Vince Vicente by impersonating Jen, his dead lover. And he did it with Dean by impersonating Cas.

Therefore, Castiel is canonically Dean’s love interest. Destiel is canon. You cannot argue against these canon facts.

Cass was never Collette, Dean barely tolerated him most of the time and I don’t think he ever once stopped for Cass, in the entirety of the series, except maybe if Cass threatened harm to him. If anyone was a Colette parallel it was Sam and Dean actually took back control of the mark and stopped when Sam called out to him to stop.

If Dean’s lack of reciprocation was purely due to being stunned it would have said “didn’t” or at least would have left it at “too stunned to respond” not “couldn’t” as “couldn’t” in this instance means “not capable”. The way it was worded is truly damming because: “could have, but didn’t because too stunned to say anything in that moment” vs “couldn’t, because sexuality not compatible” regardless of time constraints.

No, Sam and Dean offered to kill each other to get Chuck to bring EVERYONE including Cass back, with no indication that Dean had any intention to live on regardless of which scenario Chuck chose. Also, the only reason that Cass was specifically mentioned is because he wasn’t disappeared by Chuck like everyone else on earth, he was slurped away by the empty, so if they left it at “bring back everyone you disappeared” Chuck definitely wouldn’t have bothered with Cass, and as it was their friend, they had to at least ask.

Those quotes are proof because Dean meant them with his whole heart, and proved it too, as by Dean’s actions, certainly no individual person or being was ever more important to him than Sam.

The first time in purgatory he had no reason to think that Sam was in danger, so of course he was’t going to just abandon his friend without even trying. The second time however, when Dean knew for a fact that Sam was in danger from Chuck, he was literally going to abandon Cass in purgatory to run to Sam, and the only reason Cass made it out that time was because he got himself out of the mess he was in and back to Dean before Dean hopped out of the portal. Also, when he said that to Sam over Charlie, he had the Mark of Cain, was grieving Charlie and was being petty and hurtful over that, but not serious, as he’s never even considered sacrificing Sam for anyone, and would trade literally anyone for Sam (and has).

No writer ever confirmed that, Dean has never called Cass that, nor said that about him. Genuinely, the only one Dean has actually said he can’t live without is Sam “I couldn’t live with you dead” and has demonstrated by being willing to do anything to get Sam back EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. There is a certain portion of Destiel shippers that have somehow fallen for their own fan fiction. They seem to believe that Dean really was in big romantic love with Castiel but that it had to be kept secret because of Big Homophobia™️. They believe that the fan fiction filter they placed over the show was part of the original story. They dug in searching for something, anything to lend credence to what they wanted to be going on. So they picked it apart reading into lighting choices and lamp placements, desperately in search of patterns they could point to. And then other fans who have fallen for the same delusion just reinforce it back and forth until they think that if they just ask Jensen the right way at the right time, he'll finally be able to speak to the "truth" of the show. The fact that they all went "Noooooo!" when he brought up Wincest and compared it to Destiel is because they honestly seem to think they're different. Wincest is weird and icky and not for polite company, not like the "really real" love they think they see between Dean and Castiel. Nevermind the fact that the show was actually all about Sam and Dean, and that everyone, even Misha, has pointed that out repeatedly and consistently over the years. No, if they just believe hard enough, want it badly enough, ask it often enough, then one day they will succeed at making the story something it clearly wasn't and they will have won. It's weird and cult-like and I feel so bad for Jensen having to deal with over and over and over.

But yeah, I am petty enough that hearing Jensen bring up Wincest, unprompted, and use it as a touchstone to try and put Destiel in perspective (as the fan fiction it also is) made my fucking day. Not only to hear him say the ship name, but because he held it up like it was a string of garlic he was using to try and ward off a vampire. Lol!

Sam and Dean were the ones always being compared with or mistaken for a married couple. Sam and Dean not only had several break-ups on the show, but Dean even said, "What did Sam say? Does he want a divorce?" And the best part of that was that he said it to Castiel, who then just reassured him that it would take "a lot more than trying to kill [Sam] with a hammer to make him want to walk away." (10x03)

And like, again, ship what you want to ship, but the only relationship that Dean had in Supernatural that was compared to being married to a guy was his relationship with Sam, his brother. And Castiel's feelings for him were one-sided, as clearly stated in the script for the episode where he confessed his feelings...

"Dean can't reciprocate, but Cass doesn't need him to."

And finally, the one who was shown to be widowed at the end of the series was Sam. There was an entire montage of him grieving the loss of his brother for the rest of his mortal life. And, he named his son Dean! Garth named his twins Sam and Cas, but Sam named his one and only child after his brother who there were six photos of around his deathbed. Six. No photos of the mother of his son. There were three of Mary, two of his son, one of John, one of Bobby, and SIX of him and his brother.

When Dean was dying, he said things like, "It was always you... and me." and "I love you so much, my baby brother." And then when he got to heaven he was met by Bobby, declared the place "almost perfect" because Sam wasn't there, and then went and drove around by himself (and apparently fucked with an AU for funzies) while he waited for Sam to catch up. (15x20)

And while I do not think that Dean and Cas had any sexual chemistry, Destiel is a popular ship so to each their own, I guess. But yeah, 'canon' means what actually happens on the show, not stuff folks just collectively make up.
