This is where I mostly post stuff about spn. I wish people would remember that the Winchesters are CONMEN and therefore not always genuine in their interactions with people. In this house we believe in destiel (obviously), Oblivious Sam, that there was NEVER anything between Dean & Benny except comradeship, and that Dean is not obliged to claim Jack as family just because Cas (and the fandom) does. Also that Prequelgate is the funniest thing to happen in the post-show economy. This is a Jarpad unfriendly space.

Castiel is injured and sees no way out. Dean does, inviting him to possess him to save his life. What he doesn't realize is the door it will open to his own feelings and the potential problems that arise when the one you love is something more than human.

Oh and this is a recent one I thought was a cool idea.

Due to a shortage of Angels, Castiel is called back to Heaven. He and Dean struggle with the seemingly permanent separation until Castiel stumbles upon a secret hidden away in Heaven that could bring him home, but only if he cooperates with the plan. It takes him sacrificing everything to finally have what he's always wanted.

This fic takes place in the Season 14 timeline and contains some light, early season spoilers.

This is inspired by the Chicken Tortilla Soup I shall be cooking tonight that I first read about in FROTUS by kathscradle (I also now add nutmeg into my french toast mix because of the same fic)

garth case fic where garth starts out doing his usual overly cheerful bouts of bless-your-hear-style judgment (smiley jabs about the mains' personalities, other weirdly sage and writerly advices, etc)

and he's got his sprawling network of hunting buddies and we see his  ✨positive masculinity✨ on full display and how he's ✨friends with everyone✨

but then THEN

his tendency to ✨gossip✨ almost gets everyone killed

by the end of the episode, he's forced to take a page from the John Winchester book of paranoia, or the Bobby Singer wisdom of surly privacy

I know this is a question that they'd never answer, but I think it would be interesting to ask the actors which writers they felt understood their characters the most and which the least

look i know in the ep first blood that dean remains stoic and silent just like sam does. but like. i push against that writing decision. i think he'd meet the FBI agent's "hey we're not gonna let you out until you tell us everything" and dean would be like :) okay :) and he'd start spouting his entire life story but only the weirdest parts and his favorite color and what shirts he still has to wash back in the bunker and the agent sitting against the wall's eye slowly starts to twitch and then dean starts to wax poetic about his best friend the angel and the agent's like "ok fuck this" and walks out and then dean calls after him, "same time tomorrow, big guy?" and he's feeling fucking horrified about being in a cell alone for weeks on end but he's not gonna show them that, he's gonna act like a cheeky shit until they finally stop questioning him and leave him alone and he can rot in peace

I don't know what to say. This is exactly what it looks like... (Dean's jacket and Cas's trenchcoat gained sentience and are going at it)

I blame the destiel discord server.

Two asks ago, your bit about people telling Dean what he wants...... That makes me think of 11x13 too, how the Quareen, another spn entity confidently names Dean's experience for him ie love, shame, inability to resist

And what does Dean say later about this? Dean himself says that description is wrong.

This is an extremely Dean-recurring issues in the narrative. Other beings keep telling him what he is and what he wants.

Indeed. And what most of the fandom does? They trust the Qareen over Dean (like, two episodes earlier, they trust Mildred's words--who is nice but a total stranger who knows nothing about Dean and his life--over Dean's own words/actions... :/)

Funnnn thought.

You can remove the parallels. And the mirrors. And the symbols. Remove the “Colette” stuff, the mixtape, jokes, color coding, even Cas’s verbalized love.

Then just watch Dean and Cas interact across time.

There’s still a romantic, developing relationship there that can be read directly from performance: Dean’s attention to Cas, and how he notices him, the particular mix of softness and irritation he uses with him, what he expects of him, (Dean doesn’t ask, he expects - that’s his partner soooo early), super closeups, physical orientation, wanting him present, fussing with him, seeking communication, wanting Cas to come to him with his problems, taking his departures personally, the pleasure of getting him back, the hopelessness and mature grief when he loses him, I’m suuuure there’s more.

They like each other, they enjoy each other’s company. They navigate mutual duty and a what becomes a conspicuously “old-fashioned,” un-Western-ideal of a sprawling, interdependent household.

There’s just this… recurring sense that Dean is negotiating a relationship with this particular man rather than merely executing “mission and family loyalty.” That’s, in shape, a masculine man who enjoys another masculine man. Over time, repeatedly, enduringly, through trials and tribulations.

And that’s different from using parallels to create a romantic reading, maybe? Parallels can tell you how the writers conceptualize something. But swirls of coding and adjacent motifs aren’t necessary to perceive Dean’s feelings/behavior.

That’s also why Cas’s confession shouldn’t have to perform the impossible burden of retroactively authorizing a decade of audience perception.

((((In fact, imho Cas’s confession can almost distract from the more interesting question because it makes interpretation declaration-centered… which can be boring. There was a post the other day that made me think of this. “Are they grieving in they don’t speechify it?” Yeah.))))

They were debating the finer points of what makes a collection worthwhile when Benny got back. “- well yeah, if you’re strictly going to monetary value then you pick the more popular or rare albums,” Dean argued, “but if you’re collecting for the love of it then you have to run with a theme or a focus.” “But that won’t be as impressive as having first pressings or signed albums.” “Who cares?  I collect vinyl pressings of Zepp bootlegs because I love the band and hearing the different ways they used to play the same songs.  I’m not going to sell them.  If they’re worth more than I paid for them that’s just a bonus.” Benny cleared his throat and they both jumped.

Hey Vic, have some angst caused by an avoidant Cas.

The morning after they had kissed, Dean had sent Cas a message, not knowing if he still wanted the help that had been a condition of Cas’ agreeing to go to the date.  It had been read but not responded to, so Dean thought he would give Cas some space to process what had happened.  He could admit that he also needed time to process.  What had started out as a great night had somehow left Dean leaning against a brick wall with tears in his eyes not understanding why Cas had done that and then just left him.

Suptober day 3: garden

Give me widower!Dean out of his mind with grief frantically scooping up the ashes of Cas' wings before the wind can blow it away. There's no where to put it right now, not without getting up to go to the Impala, and he can't risk leaving it here any longer so he ends up chanting I can't lose him again over and over as he shovels the mix of ash and dirt into his pockets. He doesn't even care if anyone sees him transfer the ashes of Cas' wings to the ashes of the rest of his body in a container, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks because nothing fucking matters anymore
