i think i finally figured out an issue with my redeemed Morro design when in comparison to Lloyd! Aka the "Why Morro should be blue-green and Lloyd should be yellow-green" post

So, Morro, we all know him, we all have feelings about him, and we all know he's green. But the issue stems from the shades of green.

Originally the way my redeemed design was going to work was that Morro would be light green, Lloyd would be dark green.

Morro would have a light green gi, lloyd would have a green gi. Except then I thought to their possession gis and went "hm well what happens if we essentially have a season where the ninja are all wearing black gis with their main color as an accent?" it would get confusing v fast as to who is who and I did actually run into issues when I tried coloring Morro's gi design. It looked too much like Lloyd's.

HOWEVER I NOW THINK I HAVE A SOLUTION

let me ask you something- what shade of green do you think of when you think of each element? wind? ghosts? life? or even... energy?

the issue is, it can go blue-green or yellow-green and still be correct.

HOWEVER- (oh no) I want to point out the fact that Ninjago is a show that heavily relies on bastardizing and combining Asian cultures. I also want to point out the fact that wind, which is a subelement to wood in Chinese culture, is usually depicted as green. In Japan, where they assimilated Chinese culture, the original color of the element was "Aoi", which can mean anything from blue to green. Something similar was had in Chinese culture, they used the word "Qīng" for blue, green, AND black.

Hilariously, in Chinese AND Japanese cultures, red was representative of life, and also because Lloyd is more representative of Wu and the FSM, I would argue he runs more warmly than Morro. And when I think of life/energy, I do think of a more yellow-green anyway. Plus, with him having golden powers, yellow-green fits better! His powers tend to be portrayed more yellow-green anyhow, though an issue comes up in recent seasons where they have been adding blue to his color palette.

Morro on the other hand definitely can go either way, his neon ghostly green or - I would argue - a more muted, almost seafoam green would fit him nicely. Pretty much every time he's on screen minus season 4's ending and when he's in the museum at the beginning of season 5, we see him at night. The atmosphere paints him in a bluer hue. And when he possessed Lloyd, Lloyd's attire took on a more blue-green hue.

I made this collage where I color picked Morro at different points in the show (Sorry to those that haven't watched Dragons Rising yet)

his palette does run pretty warm at points, but even the Dragons Rising writers seem to prefer more of a blue hue for Morro as seen by his Spinjitzu

look at that holy god damn go Morro.

There is also the fct that Nya and Morro are siblings elementally (something something the island lore something something Wojira). The blue-green also compliments Euphrasia's blue and white theme!

One last note: I feel like a blue-green, especially a more ghostly blue-green could also tie back to the fact he was a ghost more than anything! A big part of Morro's character is that he keeps fucking dying (sorry not sorry) and has spent AT THIS POINT most of his existence as a ghost.

A guide to designing, drawing or writing characters who use mobility aids!!!!

I hope this is helpful for people, a lot of people seemed to appreciate my wheelchair guide, so I hope this is as helpful!!

I may have missed some bits but there are some things, such as prosthetics, that some may argue is a mobility aid, however I’d like to go into more detail and create specific guides for those things!!
