Gang I love all my followers and those who interact w my art but pls stop asking me if ur character is a good representation of disability. I love ur work I love to see ur disabled characters that's different.

Specifically being like "im writing a book and this character has xyz and I have ideas about it and I was wondering if you would tell me about-" I had to do the research too, a lot of it, and you're genuinely asking me to do the research for you, to work out how your character could be a better embodiment of disability for your story.

Showing me ur art like "is this right?" Sure!! Absolutely! Because it takes me a few seconds to glance and know if a prosthetic or wheelchair is drawn correctly.

Equally tell me all about ur character so I can gush too, I loveeee an infodump about ur OCs.

But .... I'm not going to analyse ur story to work out if you did a good job. Pay me to be ur sensitivity reader sure. But I'm not doing it for free, thats like years of research I've done to start to call myself specialised in understanding crip representation and the effects it might have and how it should be done and why it should be done like that.

No hard feelings to anyone who has before because it's never been something I've said up until this point, and I did a lot of posts about it.

Hi I'm currently working on a sewing final based around making clothing more accessible, this was originally planned to be based around my own issues with sensory issues, being unable to work with both my pain relief needs and warmth, the struggles that come of being one handed while using my mobility aid and more. however i have decided that if i am to make something themed around accessibility i want it to be something that can benefit more than me!

i plan to make a tshirt, a zip up hoodie, a pair of pants, and a bag and would love to hear your input on what could make clothing easier for you on a day to day basis!!

OH THIS IS SO COOL!!

Firstly I would recommend looking at brands like unfashion and intotum if you haven't already!

But personally as a wheelchair user, the main issues I come across are :

SLEEVES: when u propel and they get caught on the wheels, they get muddy and worn out REALLY quick, and there's no way to wipe fabric clean when ur out and about, plus they rip so so quick

Pockets : on jeans/trousers they're right at the side which makes phones etc fall out ALLLL the time, all pockets I have are literally null and void to me

Waist: ur tummy comes out a little more when ur sitting down, I know a lot of ambulatory people who find jeans that fit standing feel constricting when they're in their chair and vise versa, I also think more trousers should be adjustable just because sometimes ur a bit more bloated than other days but that's just a human problem I think

Bags: when I was on crutches, I hated that I couldn't wear tote bags without the strap falling down, I don't use totes anymore but a lot of wc users use bumbags/fanny packs, and I also personally get worried about my bag being secure when I travel, you can't feel if someone undoes ur bag as easily when it's on the back of ur chair

Tees: I've personally never had issues with tees, I prefer fitted tees just because if they're TOO baggy they can get in the way of wheels

That's all I can think of, but I'm sure you can check the comments and people will give any ideas they have too!!

Any of my wheelie friends use a Smartdrive and had to get a refund because of the switches?? I finally got mine back after FOUR MONTHS (four months to get these fucking switches) and tried I once and I just can't do it safely or use it how I bought it to be used.

I also tried with my watch and I just couldn't hack it I need the variable speed

I read they're making people submit medical evidence to get their refunds to prove they're not useable with ur condition? Like?? Pardon me I think Permobil is in the wrong for basically fucking up a variable resistor (which, according to my electrician father, is the same as a dimmer light switch).

Riddle me this Permobil. Is a light switch the same as a dimmer switch? NO

So if anyone has managed to get a refund pls lemme know if it was easy, if you accepted the switches and found they didn't work for u, if you had to threaten legal action and if ur uk based tysm I love u all
