Nothing to Fear || Phoebe & Natsume
Phoebe, beginning to warm up to the psychic, took a seat next to her and smiled. She gestured to the restaurant owner and ordered some miso of her own, finding herself delighting in the company of this new woman she’d only just met. Happy that the woman seemed to take pleasure in Phoebe’s presence as well, she began to wonder how she could further welcome the visitor to Hoenn. Taking the knowledge she’d just gained, the wheels in Phoebe’s mind began turning, and she came up with the most perfect idea.
“Looking for Pokemon, huh? Well…if you’re not opposed to the idea, I could help you out? I’d love to go out today, seeing how beautiful it is outside. Two girls on a quest to find psychic-types! Sounds fun to me!” Phoebe said, beaming at Natsume. She quickly finished up her soup and took the other by the arm, no longer afraid of invading personal space. Phoebe was this sort of person - once she felt comfortable around someone, she could become quite touchy-feely, sometimes not aware of the boundaries of others. However, after finding that Natsume didn’t mind the shoulder-touch so much, she decided to herself that any other sort of friendly physicality was fine as well.
The two eventually found themselves outside, where Phoebe stretched her arms in the beaming sunlight and took in the warmth. She and Natsume made their way across the land and started towards Victory Road, a dark, complex cave in which they were sure to find something like a Meditite, a dual psychic-fighting Pokemon. Perhaps that would please Natsume, Phoebe thought to herself, leading the way. Once inside, Phoebe let loose one of her ghost-type Pokemon, Nyx (one of her two Banette), knowing that they would need a Pokemon to battle what they would soon find in the wild.
From the moment Nyx entered into Sabrina’s sight, Phoebe clearly noted the small bit of anxiety that appeared on the other’s face. It was true that psychic-type trainers seemed to be a bit wary of ghost-type Pokemon, so the brunette figured it was related to type-advantage issues or something. However, she couldn’t be entirely sure and walked over to her friend. “Are you alright? You seem a bit tense…”.
Natsume couldn't help but blink at Phoebe's enthusiasm. Her initial analysis had been correct. Great cheer. However, she could think of no reason to turn down the offer. She knew nothing concrete about the region and had no clue where to start. Having a guide, especially one as full of sunshine as Phoebe, would be helpful - not to mention a lot less lonely. "Th-that sounds great," the raven said, stammering for a quick response. "Perhaps you know somewhere around here to look?" Her eyes focused on the tanned girl across from her, even though her voice was less than certain.
Before she knew it - which was saying something, considering her abilities - Phoebe had grabbed her arm and practically dragged her outside into the sunshine. While her companion stretched, Natsume let her eyes adjust to the light. The flowers were practically copying Phoebe, stretching up as if to embrace the sun. The fountains spread throughout the city were creating miniature rainbows in the spraying water. It was the type of place the psychic could see herself living in, were she given the chance. Adjusting the bracelet on the arm that the tanned elite had grabbed hold of, she started to follow her towards the nearby mountain.
Once they reached the entrance to the cave, Natsume pulled out her Espeon's pokeball and stepped inside behind the elite. "So what is this place?" she asked quietly, just loud enough to be heard by Phoebe. "What are we after in here?" She awaited the girl's response while she watched her send out a Banette. The psychic was good when it came to keeping her emotions under wraps, but she was not so good at hiding the effort. She became rigid as if focusing too hard on something or as if completely lost in thought. The change was pretty clear to Phoebe.
“Are you alright? You seem a bit tense…”
"I'm fine," Natsume said, her tone emotionless. "I just have a history with--" She stopped herself and shook her head, relaxing a bit. "No, it's not ghost types that bother me." The raven was being drawn out of her comfort zone and her words were much less guarded as a result. To take her mind off of it, she levitated the pokeball into air about a foot over her head, her eyes glowing. Mentally unlocking it, Natsume caused the Espeon to materialize on the ground in front of her. The feline Pokemon's tail swished in the air calmly as she craned her head around to look at her trainer and mewed. The psychic trainer nodded and gave Espeon a modest smile.
"It's nothing you should worry about," Natsume said in continuance. "Please, forget I said anything. Let's be going shall we?" The psychic had completely forgotten about the questions she had previously asked Phoebe. The Banette had shaken her focus and now she was struggling to get it back. Putting the Pokeball away, Natsume and her Espeon took a look around at the inside of the cave. Without turning back to look at the elite, she asked, "Which way do we go first?"
