Interesting! I think we're probably in agreement, I read this quote as like. Inspiration more consistently comes from using your brain creatively. I don't know the guys work super well, but I imagine a lot of fine art comes from exploring new things deliberately, sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it's the start of something career defining.

At uni they'd give us a prompt and we'd do like 30 illustration ideas in thumbnail form, and the first few would often inform the next, and new ideas come as you work, and usually one of them is pretty good- and that idea wouldn't have happened without sitting and working. Personally my ideas usually come out of working, I sit and brainstorm what kinda thing I want to do based on things I like doing, Or more likely it comes up while I'm working on something else- my current project came from doing age difference titanic fanart, working on a sex work baldurs gate AU, plus some old character sketches I never used. I sat down to make some new characters, and those building blocks fit together. I think the bolt of lightning inspiration idea stops lots of people from ever starting because their initial ideas aren't good or original, or maybe they don't ever have any because they aren't used to thinking creatively. I think a lot of great ideas start out half baked or even raw haha.

This isn't to say ideas can't come out of the blue, but they don't have to and I think sometimes it's more consistent to just make your brain start chewing on something you think you'll like to see if something good comes of it.

I was commissioned by the marvellous Deep Lord Boardgame to illustrate another of the playable Deep Lords of his dungeon building game: The Orc. This aging (22 year old) warrior has found the best tool to keep the workforce in check: unions.

A recent DnD character portrait commission ✨🌘💧

Lachlan is a water genasi and the player requested "gaudy twink with water and space themed jewelry, think Howl Pendragon but maybe even more so" with an expression of "gay judgement/condescension" 😂
