Hey, so new book coming out!
After a serious bicycling accident, 26-year-old cullinary school drop-out Callie flees her overprotective parents to open a doughnut shop in Fly-Debate, Maine. When she starts dating one of her store regulars, 44-year-old Beckett, she has no idea that he’s the star of the TV show that shoots in the tiny town, or that he has a reputation for falling too fast too soon. Sexy times and hijinx ensue.
Things in this book that might excite you:
- A 19-year-old muralist who dispenses advice she learned from reality TV
- Making out at the local axe-throwing parlour, like you do
- A houseboat named The Lobster Taco
Content you may wish to be aware of:
- While no one in this book gets pregnant or is trying to get pregnant, a non-graphic discussion of pregnancy is plot significant in the last third of the book
- Callie’s bike accident is described in the last third of the book. The description is non-graphic but very tense.
- A discussion of eating-disorder culture in the entertainment industry and explicit rejection/pushback of that also appears in the last third of the book.
Specific chapters where you can expect this content are listed in the authors note at the beginning of the book.
Additionally, Callie has significant ongoing conflict with her parents that is only partially resolved in the course of the novel. This book also contains some explicit sex scenes and lots of foul language.
Finally, our hero, Beckett, has a lot of gender stuff going on. Some people will notice that in the text and some people won’t. If you see it, it’s there very specifically. That said, the characters was never more clear with himself or us about what the deal was there, and we ultimately accepted we were writing someone for whom gender is complicated and isn’t about clear resolutions. This is not a huge plot element; it’s not really a factor in the relationship or the HEA, but this it is a thing happening on an ongoing low-level basis in our hero’s life and head.
