Weird Dilemma

So, as my Call of Cthulhu scenario trilogy nears its end (not really it'll be a year-ish yet I'm sure); I'm thinking on my personal vow to revisit a space opera setting a la my 2020 pandemic DnD game as my Next Big Project; but... idk.

Somewhere between dropping Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy a third into Dark Forest out of sheer exhaustion with its misanthropic Forever War, seeing the anodine confused politics of the new Star Trek shows, and the countless video essays and articles whose imagination of the sci-fi genre extends only to the next bigger gun, the next star-swallowing rung up the Kardashev Scale; I've become so... tired.

Strap that to the way so many TTRPGs have an outsized interest in incentivized violence and plunder (which is... fine); and... idk man.

I don't want to clamber on a soapbox and bash my players over the head with moral didacticism, but I just... I feel like sci-fi could be more than this?

There's a worldbuilding game I forget the name of strongly inspired by Ursula K Le Guin's Hainish Cycle, which is a start; but... idk
