✧ ✦ ✧ Kaeya’s in the middle of catching his breath when his brother’s worry pierces through the gloom. The campfire the monsters had been surrounding had gone out at some point during their scuffle, leaving only the dim glow of the domain entrance they had come through and some still-lit torches dropped by the hilichurls.

“I’m fine. Just had to get my bearings.” He assures reflexively, dropping his hand from his aching side to wave at Diluc with a waggle of his fingers instead. “See? Not even a scratch.” 

There’s no blood, but his ribs aren’t all that happy to be clobbered with a wooden club. It’s fine, though. Kaeya tells himself as he sweeps his hair over his shoulder and silently grits his teeth as he does. It wouldn’t do to dally for too long in this place. Not when there’s monsters and other foul things afoot. Not being quick enough had been the reason he’d taken a hit in the first place.

He flicks his sword back into its scabbard and looks to Diluc, one sharp eye quickly assessing the damage, if there is any. After all, his brother was the one who’d tussled with the biggest foe head-on. “Should we take a moment?” He doesn’t see any injuries, but that doesn’t mean that Mr. Sunshine-and-Chivalry isn’t sporting any. ✦  ✧  ✦

“No time,” Diluc says, decisive now. His words sound more sure than his expression looks. A persisting air of worry is tugging down the corners of his mouth and pinching the skin between his brows. Still, he takes in another deep breath and shakes his head as if to dispel any lingering, clinging doubts. “If you’re good to continue, we should go.”

That’s all that matters right now. He’s a Captain now, and Kaeya’s older brother besides, so the responsibility of getting them both out of here in one piece rests solely on his aching shoulders. He rolls them once, twice brusquely to work out any residual tension from crossing blades with an opponent twice his size, but keeps his claymore drawn and at the ready.

There’s no telling if the noise they’ve made in this chamber caught the attention of anything up ahead. Better safe than sorry.

"I'll take the lead this time since we've already lost the element of surprise." Without waiting for any further discussion on the matter, he moves in front of Kaeya as if to shield him with his body and blade and starts forward. The soft concern of his crimson eyes turns hard and protective in the dim torchlight, a flinty gaze probing every nook and cranny for threats.

( Tentatively considering returning to tumblrp... if I do I think I'm going to be clearing out my drafts for now because it's been quite some time. I got kind of burnt out to be honest and spent a lot of time thinking about the type of writing I want to do, so for now I believe I will only be focusing on plotted threads.

I might also be implementing a limit on open threads I have per writing partner because it was all sorta starting to blur together for me. If there's a reply you've been waiting for in particular or a starter you'd still really really like me to reply to, please drop a link in my DMs and I'll see what I can do! Otherwise we can discuss a new thread if you still want to write together. )

( Leaks talk for Ka.veh or whatever bc I been mulling it over the past day or so and woops it's personal! so I cannot really be unbiased about any of this and want some transparency on the matter.

His lore is very deeply personal to me on several levels and I find the various assorted elements of it to be an amazing charcuterie board of things I have experienced in my own life that shaped me into the person I am today. Like I have never seen a character that more closely aligns to some specific struggles I've had, so I just really will not be accepting any Ka.veh negativity or critique at this time actually, sorry.

TL;DR: Getting too bothered about a fictional character bc this flamboyant little sad man was made for me. )

( Hello, hello! I just wanted to make a formal post that I am dropping my current threads for Kaveh because I want to rework my muse for him. I don’t think I’ll have to retcon any established relationships so far, I just want to build some confidence incorporating all the upcoming content/lore into his portrayal.
