I’m entertaining the idea of developing a podcast about game design. Not that I have many thoughts to share. But I hope to convince some awesome people to chat with me about it. What better way to learn than to surround yourself with incredible talent?

So... Adventure Jam came and gone. I’m no where closer to finishing the game. Doesn’t look like May will be a productive month for development. But June looks good.

Good lord its May. Well of course I took a dip in writing blog stuff because that’s what happens when you write and you are not a writer. It’s almost mandatory that you give up on a carefully scheduled plan because that’s life!
But! I haven’t given up! I’ve got three apps on the app store and another one one the way. Decided I’d do the Adventure Jam 2016! It’ll have something to do with apples and swords!

This new app is actually coming along very well. I believe I will actually finish it in the month timeframe! So here’s a preview. Take a guess what I’m making!
Should be ready for submission in a week or so!
Time for a new project
Alright, so sticking with an app a month, I’ve decided to make an app slate for videographers. There are quick a few that exist already. But I won’t let that stop me. Good design, good UX and good fun is my goal. Here is the little logo I drew up for it.
Just sent it to the Apple App store! Now for the long wait!

That’s a fun statement to say.
I actually made two apps. But I wasn’t pleased with one of them. So I spent the last four weeks making another and I think it’s fun.

Nearly there
My app is nearly there. I started this little journey a tad more than a month ago and that timeframe I’m actually kind of proud of.
Lots of people on the Unity forums say things like make a really small game. Super good advice. Terribly hard to follow. So instead, I decided to try an app. A single one trick pony app and release it as quickly as possible.
You take a photo from your phones gallery and stick on a bubble caption on it.
How silly it was for me to think this would be a cake walk! :O
Rendering Textures, loading images, scaling/position, UI screen space. All new to me. All very hard. But I’m proud of what I’ve made in a month. Has a lot of kinks of course.
I’ve got a whole bunch of ideas on how to improve it’s design but for the sake of my sanity and schedule. I’ma slap the done sticker on this bad daddy and release it to the wild!
Maybe, I’ll make this a cycle. One app (not a game) every month? We’ll see how this goes. There are only nine more months in this year. Wish me luck!
Game Idea # 2
After playing a bunch of clicker games on my phone, I came up with a one of my own. You’d have a solitary dude and as you start tapping he begins dancing. Upgrades would involve learning new dance moves and as you evolve more of your friends join you for a party until the screen is filled up.
Asset Army
I took a page from a good friend’s logo creation book when I began my work on logos and iconography for this app thing I’m working on. Went kind of like this:
Create. Copy. Paste. Change stuff. Copy. Paste. Move this. Copy Paste. Invert. Copy. Paste. Resize...
And all I can say is that it was a good hour well spent. I don’t really like any of them, but at least I know 50 directions I won’t go with when I do end up creating my asset army.
Still working on the name. Something with captions and photos.
