Lament of Light is a young adult superhero novel, inspired by the love square of Miraculous Ladybug, with the maturity and humor of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and a dash of Teen Wolf relationship dynamics 👀 and it's OUT NOW!!

Two hundred years have passed since the Xyri last bonded with humans, granting them special powers and abilities. No one knows what happened to them, or why they left. But now one of the Timeless has gone missing, and the Xyri are back… Ren Rivers is just a normal girl with a normal life. Except she's also a superhero named Kaida. At sixteen years old, Ren struggles to balance high school, friends, and dating while protecting her secret and protecting New York City with her partner, Lycan. Lycan made a grave mistake when he fell for Kaida. They are not allowed to be together. At seventeen years old, Bellamy Grey must navigate just being friends with the love of his life, while hiding his secret identity from everyone around him. After facing the worst serial killer to walk the streets of New York, a new threat is on the horizon. Kaida and Lycan must follow a trail of rubble and flora to find and stop this new mysterious villain, before more people die.

My book is OUT NOW!

I’ve spent years working on this book, and decades working toward this goal in general. It’s kind of crazy, being able to say I am a published author now. But I am. I did that.

If you don’t know, my debut, Lament of Light, is a young adult superhero novel, following three characters across a journey of self discovery and what it means to be a hero. It’s fast paced and action packed and emotional and funny. There’s secret identities and forbidden love, platonic soulmates, and a creature bond and queer characters, and a love square. And it was made with so so much love.

I like to pitch it as the love square of Miraculous Ladybug meets the maturity and humor of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (with just dash of Teen Wolf character dynamics) and while it is YA it's very much upper YA, so keep that in mind! I would love if you checked it out, if it sounds even a little bit interesting to you. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this book, and while I know it won’t be for everyone, I just want the people it IS for to find it.

Meet The Author!

Hello friends! I’m Brianna, 34 years old, (she/her) living in Illinois with my boyfriend and our seven cats. I’ve been creating imaginary worlds and people in my head all my life, but only seriously started organizing my ideas into the shapes of stories when I was about 21 years old. And I finally get to share it with other people. My debut novel, Lament of Light, the first book in The Xyri Nexus series, comes out on January 22nd, 2026.

Lament of Light also funded in under two minutes on Kickstarter, and raised over four thousand dollars. I’m currently working to fulfil the Kickstarter while gearing up for the public release of the book! It's officially up for preorder on Barnes & Noble, Walmart, and should be available on Amazon soon! (Can get it as a paperback, in black and white, or a hardback, with all the art in full color!)

I want to have fun with this, not just by writing and selling books, but building a community and finding the people who will love these books, and letting them have fun with it, too. Which is why I’ve created this space, so I can have a dedicated place to post things related to the book.

At the time of making this I don’t have a dedicated webpage yet, and this is easier for now. (I will eventually build a proper website, to sell copies of my book myself, but I still like the idea of having this place, too, to post things and chat.)

I have a lot of fun plans in regards to this series, with running Kickstarters and having exclusive one-of-a-kind editions of the book, and doing live shows and fun giveaways. As well as all the plans I have for short story collections, novellas, prequels and more, revolving around this series.
