She was amazed to discover that when he was saying, 'As you wish,' what he meant was, 'I love you.' And… she truly loved him back.
THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987) dir. by Rob Reiner THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (2001) dir. Peter Jackson
HOT FUZZ dir. Edgar Wright | 2007
the pitt is if the chefs from the bear became doctors, and the bear is if the doctors from the pitt became chefs. no, i will not elaborate.
just saw the immortal man, and i am terribly disappointed by how they handled arthur and tommy in relation to him. honestly? i could never see tommy killing arthur in any capacity, even in his own head. it just doesn't make sense. arthur is a complex character with incredibly high highs and incredibly low lows, but the one thing that remained consistent was he was loyal to tommy to a fault, and tommy recognized that. he kept arthur by his side even through the worst of his fuck ups. not once through the show has tommy ever planned to let go of arthur. he saw arthur as irreplaceable—he was the only person to ever believe in and stood by tommy and his bullshit—even when tommy was mainly using his brother for his own selfish reasons by the end.
honestly? it would've been more believable if the reason why arthur wasn't around in the movie was because he and linda set off for america to protect their family from nazis. i would rather that than butchering arthur's character and removing one of the last redeemable things about tommy.
been seeing names such as henry cavill and ben barnes being thrown around as potential aragorn castings for the hunt for gollum. honestly?
the idea of replacing viggo as aragorn is unthinkable. aragorn is one of the very few fictional characters where nobody debates that he is someone people either want to become or be with, and much of how aragorn is perceived today stems from viggo's portrayal. we see aragorn as a near-perfect man because viggo was able to capture how strong, honorable, kind, courageous, and selfless the character is.
despite being a warrior and eventually king, he is far from a machismo character. he still exemplified tenderness that was treated not as a weakness, but as a strength that further solidified his masculinity. aragorn is the definition of a layered and positive masculine identity that is more than simply being a warrior and king, and viggo understands that.
genuinely, no one can possibly rival viggo as aragorn. viggo IS aragorn.
seeing that the central characters for the previous knives out movies are women of color, and both installments make a point of emphasizing marta and helen using their womanhood to outsmart and beat white men and the oppressive systems that prop them up, it suprised me a little that wake up dead man's lead was a white man and not a woman like the previous films.
but even with the lack of a female lead, wake up dead man is still a very female-centric movie that uses womanhood and the female experience to tell its story. wake up dead man is a critique of religion and religious institutions, and the centuries-long misogyny that have plagued these institutions and have gone unchecked.
grace is a representation of how women are so-easily twisted to become villains through men's perspectives. we see the portrayal of grace change depending on who is telling the story. through the eyes of men, she's a demonic, vengeful, and greedy "wench." through the eyes of women, she is a young girl who was not ready to be a mother and was in search of her ticket out of the misery she lived.
martha, on the other hand, is the representation of women who have been pitted against other women in order to isolate them and make them dependent on men. when she was little, martha was told that grace was sinful, but by the end, she admitted that grace was only desperate for a new life for herself, and martha eventually let go of the hatred she had for her.
Wake Up Dead Man is so very woman-centric!
Though I’d like to add that Martha displays how even when a woman plays by the rules, by the standards set up by men, by patriarchal rules and standards that especially exemplified by the religious setting of the church they still lose.
Actually I believe that’s what all the primary female characters of Wake Up Dead Man, those connected to the church, (Grace, Martha, Vera, and Simone) display.
They each play by the rules set forth by a male figure and still lose:
Martha and Grace both play by Prentice Wick's rules. Despite how they are portrayed as opposite sides of the same coin within the setting of the church, as "good" and "evil" respectively, both do as Prentice says. Martha lives by his teachings because she believes that makes her a good and sinless person. Her following these rules leads to the death of the man she loves and for her to commit murder and "sin." While Grace lives under his watch, his rules, and has her freedom stripped away because of the promise of her inheritance (and the implied promise of freedom.) Following these rules leads to her death and being remembered as the "harlot whore".
Simone plays by Jefferson Wick's rules by donating money to the church because of the promise that he could essentially cure her of her chronic pain through religion. She loses all of her savings and has her faith as well as her sense of hope manipulated by Wick's promise.
Vera plays by her father's rules. While she became a lawyer for herself, she upheld her father's wishes to continue his legacy through legal firm of Draven & Draven and loyally did what she was told, no questions asked, by raising and adopting Cyrus as her own. By playing by her father's rules, by being loyal to the boys who held power, her life and wants were made secondary, she was always forced to sacrifice for the men in her life, and because of this she was also made a fool of, as seen in the reveal of Cyrus' true parentage, for being loyal and playing by their rules in the first place.
So I think it can also be said that through the use of empty and implicit promises the women of Wake Up Dead Man are manipulated into staying in line with patriarchal rules and the oppressive systems that are already in place.
By avoiding being vilified they're put into this double bind. Forced to uphold a system that isn't fair to them.
father jud is what matt murdock would be if he went to therapy. no, i will not elaborate.

benoit blanc being a musical theatre kid who knows how to play the chords to phantom of the opera and listens to cats in his car is my new favorite piece of information about him aside from the fact that he's in a loving relationship with hugh grant.
my genuine take that i absolutely believe in is cass should be the one to take over the batman mantle after bruce retires/dies. not dick, not damian, not anybody else. everyone else either doesn't want the batman mantle or wants it only because they think they're obligated to. not only is she 100% capable of taking it on, but cass actually wants to be batman.
not to mention, she is the one who understands bruce's no-kill rule the most. if anything, she embodies that rule to her very core. bruce never kills because he doesn't want to cross the line and fears what would happen if he does. cass never kills because she has crossed the line and knows exactly what happens when she does. she believes in the mantle and what it symbolizes; she understands what the batman means to the people who trust in the batman because she's one of those very people.
the only thing stopping cass from growing are the writers, who seem hell-bent on sidestepping her despite being one of the coolest characters with so much potential to be explored.
the arrowverse had its issues (especially towards the end) but when it was good it was GOOD
currently in my yearly short-lived fixation on bbc sherlock era and i am always absolutely saddened by the fact that mollstrade isn't as popular as the other ships and i only have crumbs of fanworks about them. like please they look so good together and were lowkey sneakily interested in each other. ugh, hate the writers for making molly interested in sherlock instead of greg
Mystrade was and is one of my favorite crack ships that could but Mollstrade absolutely should have been canon. They were so CUTE.
as a fellow mystrade crackshipper, YES. i also distinctly remember an interview with rupert graves being asked about mollstrade and him basically being down for the ship, hahah
Greg's got two hands.

Shoutout to Superman (2025) for making it incredibly fucking clear that Superman is for good people. He’s hope. He’s love. He’s supportive. He’s an immigrant. He supports Palestine. He loves animals. He protects children.
The movie is a light. If you’ve been feeling really depressed about the world lately I’d highly suggest watching Superman.
actually pretty refreshing to see a superhero movie that's not afraid to take sides. none of that "we're all great people we're just misunderstood" bullshit AND clark explicitly saying "hey just because their nation isn't perfect to you or an ally to our country doesn't mean it deserves to be invaded and also, it's people don't deserve to die" was actually pretty fucking cool. the main villain wasn't some poor guy who was wronged as a child but a greedy evil billionaire that was taking advantage of a system that was already so ready to kill. personally, my favourite part was when hawgirl straight up just dropped netanyahu mid flight and immediately went back to serving cunt
