While pumpkin spice drinks weren't really Owen's things, the peppermint ones that made their appearance was. So it was a no brainer to head to a café to grab one the day they came out, grateful that Felipe was willing to meet him there as well. It had been a while since he had seen his friend, work had picked up due to short staffing, and finally Owen had his much needed day off. Settling down at the table, he waved a hand to get his friend's attention. "So, I gotta know, any new shows happening at the theatre soon?" While personally he couldn't enjoy the theatre and seeing shows, Owen absolutely loved getting to help Felipe with them. Becoming quite well versed in all it took to work with props and of course be on standby if anyone needed a nurse.
There were few things that could beat meeting up with Owen, a friend who had stuck with him through thick and thin and was one of few people he felt he could properly relax around. Mainly because they both needed it with the busy lives they lived, thus seeing his friend outside of anything work related was honestly a breath of fresh air, even if the conversations always leaned back into it one way or another. But at least both of them were each other's passions, what else was there to talk about? Felipe took a sip out of his own cinnamon frappé before answering any questions. "As of now? No, not really, we just stopped doing the Halloween event so we're mostly gearing up for December. I want to give everyone time off this year so we're going to do our next production a little earlier, everyone's been working so hard so they deserve a treat. You think we should do an evening for the volunteers?" He would have to run it through with Charlie first but it was doubtful she'd say no. "I have a feeling it's getting busy on your end as well, it's basically bad traffic season huh."
@amiriafm where: ellie caulkins opera house
Although he should consider the opera house as competition, considering its ability to hold higher volumes of visitors and its actual stream of incoming performances and funds - Felipe had ended up rather close with its current owner and quite frankly, it wasn't their fault his parents had given up on the Polymnia for better and more stable grounds. In the end, they all sat on the desire to share art with the world and there was never anything more truthfully bonding as a common goal. Even if one had come to rely on the other in terms of donations. "Just looked over your schedule for the rest of the year and you seem rather booked up, I should really make some room and come watch something. Been a while since I just enjoyed a show rather than tried to make one happen. Maybe we both need that, actually", Felipe mused. "Which show would you recommend? I'm open minded."
"I think this year is going to be the year of Barbie. That movie was so big and with all the stuff they made just for it, I feel like there will be a million costumes for it," she said. People had already been dressing up for that even before Halloween. She figured every white girl out there would be Barbie. "Then we agree. One needs a good quality costume or else you're really not even trying," Kendra stated with a bright smile. "That is what I have been thinking. Hopefully I can find something close. It is a book series called Throne of Glass. The only question I would have left is if I should go blond for the look or not."
"Oh gosh, that along with the whole... was it Oppenheimer? I can already picture couples' dressing up or someone doing a half of each movie for a full body costume. It's that Harley Quinn take over all over again." Felipe exhaled simply thinking about it, happy he often spent Halloween surrounded by people who enjoyed dressing up a bit more challenging. Alas, as long as people had fun. "Let me have a quick look...", he said, trailing off as he fished up his phone for a google of the name. "Hm, if you can get a good enough wig in time I'd say go for it. If you're going to make your own costume it would be a shame to leave it half-baked in some areas."
At Felipe's mention of becoming a parent himself, it made Kate pause, thinking of her own time as a mother. She had tried not to take after her own mother, always being supportive and open to anything. Eric had always been so happy, so hopefully she succeeded there. Not that she would ever know now. She blinked out of her thoughts, shaking her head. "Yeah. The whole early 2000s style. Including the awful makeup," she said, trying to make light of things again. "I already won prom queen once. I think I'm good." Kate tried on the next dress, struggling a bit with the zipper until it finally went all the way up. "I think it has more to do with our actors than me. I just try to convince people to see shows or participate," she explained as she walked out of the dressing room.
"Oh no no, we don't have to remember that at all", Felipe quickly announced and shook his head in a slight disgust. "However, I do kind of miss how much more fun you had with things back in the day. It looked tacky, yes, but I have to say I'm a fan of glitter and there's almost none of that around these days. I can't wait for people in the future to look back at today and wonder why we dressed so strangely." It seemed history either had clothes that made people wish they could jump into a time machine to experience them from the front seat, or clothes that you simply wanted to wipe from time and space all together. "Did you get a tiara and everything? Otherwise, what's the point." He was far from the type of person to win things such as that, but it was a feat nonetheless. "Don't sell yourself short, I said. You can't be an actor without a crowd, we all appreciate what you do for us. I hope we can get enough of one in December, would be nice to give everyone a break until next year."
for: @deviloutofluck ( felipe! ) location: the polymina
It was nothing unusual for Aaron to be lost in his own world, especially so when he had a paintbrush in his hand and working on the sets at the theatre. Today was no different and he'd been sat cross-legged on the floor for the last hour and a half completely engrossed in what he was dying. It was only when he heard footsteps behind him that he finally snapped out of it, if only for a moment, glancing over his shoulder to see Felipe. "Sorry... did you say something?" A small laugh escaped as he spoke.
It was obvious that the Polymnia wouldn't be half the theatre it was today if it wasn't for all its wonderful volunteers and each day, Felipe was thankful for everyone willing to put aside their freetime to keep the place afloat. Aaron had proved to be a fatal part of its operation, his talents and eye for details bringing backgrounds and props to life - making each scene they were in an a sight to behold and eye from the sidelines. Aaron was clearly stuck in his own world when Felipe approached him, letting out a soft chuckle at the other. "I said I was about to set Charlie on order duty, do you need anything? Colors? Brushes? It's going to be busy season soon."
A soft laugh fell from Owen's lips as he intently watched the mouth of the other, giving a grin, and nod of his head. Waiting a second before, making sure he had gotten everything that they had said, before he brought a hand up and gave a wave at his ear before shaking his head. The best way for him to let people know that he couldn't hear before he reached for his phone. Holding up a finger to tell them to wait a second, Owen moved to his notes app, and began to type. Hopefully that won't happen but if it does, you'd be in good hands. I work in the ER as a nurse. Turning his phone to face them before he added more. Ain't that the truth? Out of everything terrifying out there, I'd have to put other humans quite near the top of that list.
His eyes narrowed a tad upon seeing the gesture, the cogwheels working overtime until it clicked what the other man was referring to. Perhaps it was fate that he would bump into, what seemed to be, the only mute and deaf person in this place and he couldn't welcome it more - even if it meant being a bit more patient than otherwise. "Huh, wait... you're an ER nurse but you can't talk or hear? I dunno if I'd call that risky or sum-else." Apparently he made it work for himself, you had to respect the hustle. "Shit, well, at least you seem to be a man of my own heart. Dunno why I even came here but I feel like I can't go back home without shame unless I get out of this fucking maze before the hour is up. Know the way?"

Carleigha was craving a good meal that might not actually be too good for her. She tried to stick to heart healthy meals for the most part but some days she just wanted to treat herself to something greasy or packed with sugar. Today was one of those days. She'd lost track of how long she'd stared at those screens before she'd received a reminder to actually take a break and eat something. She needed some fuel before she dove back into it.
She wasn't quite expecting the diner to be as packed as it was, though she wasn't surprised. Mustering up a little courage she made her way over to one of the tables with a lone patron in hopes that maybe the could share. "Uh hi..I was wondering if--" She froze as she realized the patron was Kayaan. "Oh of course its you.."
It was safe to say that most days, dinner happened outside of the apartment as he rarely trusted himself to stand behind a stove, and his sister was far too deep down her study antics to humor him with anything to eat. Kayaan was definitely a "far back into the corner with their face down something to ensure they looked as busy as anything" type of a person, yet it didn't seem to bother the person who had suddenly stopped by his table. There was a low sigh, more than willing to tell said person to kindly "fuck off" before anything else - when his brain connected the dots, looking up at Carly with an arched brow. "Ah, look what the cat dragged in", they scoffed. "At this point I'm startin' to feel like you're actively tryin' to ruin my days. Just a big fat smack to the face - nasty."

Open | @chqstarter Farm Fest.
Really, the corn maze had been a good idea about twenty minutes ago- but now Owen was so turned around, he wasn't even remotely which way he had been yet. Briefly wondering if anyone would come looking for him when they closed down for the night or if he would be stuck here over night. If he should just give up and make home inside the stalks of corn. The game plan he had for tackling and finding the end had been abandoned the moment he had gotten inside, despite it all though, he really was having a blast. Even if he had came here alone, figuring that sooner or later, he was likely to run into someone he knew. And if he didn't, well, Owen was sure to strike up a conversation with someone anyways. However as hypothetical his running into someone was, the very thing happened as he turned a corner of the maze and ran directly into someone. Instantly bringing up a hand to sign a quick 'sorry', without even thinking about it.
Kayaan wasn't sure as to why he had decided to go to the farm fest of all places, other than the fact that he constantly sat on that urge to do something with his life that wasn't just waiting out the day. However, an hour or two into the social part, he already felt himself drying out and decided to head off to an area that seemed less frequented by other individuals. They found themselves dragging his feet into the corn maze, turning a right and a right and then a left - thinking the maze couldn't possibly be too big of a challenge to get through. Boy was he wrong. Kayaan was on their way to backtrack when the sudden sight of another human caught him off guard, causing him to jump back a step. "Shit man! 'bout to get a fucking heart attack over here." They hadn't even processed the sign language, knowing little of such things and instead shook his head. "Guess nothin' is more scary than other humans huh."
"Yeah. It would be nice if she could deliver her words of wisdom in a nicer way. But if I even suggest something like that, she'd get all offended," Kate said with a small roll of her eyes. She'd tried to discuss that with her mom before and it never went well. "Yes. Though I don't think a prom look is what is needed right now," she admitted with a small laugh. "But not like, elderly mature. I'm still somewhat young," she added, following him over to the racks. She examined the dress he picked out. It seemed nearly perfect. "This is why I brought you. You're so good at this," she said, taking it and heading to try it on. "Sounds good. I'll probably need it. At least then I can excuse any throwing up on the drink instead of nerves."
"There's no talking sense into them, I'm afraid. Makes me worry I'll turn out like that if I ever get kids, surely parents have to go through the same thought-patterns as us growing up. At some point you just seem to change, huh." Not to mention that cultures played a big role in it all, perhaps you began to see the world in a different way once you had kids around? Oh well. "Oh, I'm sure they would love it if you showed up in a prom dress, frills and all. Maybe you can all vote on prom queen and king by the end as well?" Felipe joked, letting out an amused scoff. He handed over the dress, eager to see Kate pull it off. "Don't kick yourself too much, you'll do great. There's a reason flock to the theatre and I can assure you it has little to do with me."
"I mean, I get the kid costumes being cheap fabric and all. That makes sense. Kids ruin stuff easily and usually grow out of it by the next year. But why don't adults deserve nice costumes. Does that make me a snob?" she questioned, looking over at the other. "At first I was looking for anything kind of witchy, magical or fae-like, but the atrocious material made me decide on maybe tweaking something a bit. So I'm looking for anything fire-breathing bitch queen worthy. It's a character from this book series. She loves elegant, expensive dresses. An iconic one is this black velvet long sleeved dress with a golden dragon on the back."
"I think it might come down to trends. Most years you have that one costume everyone and their mom dresses up as and obviously you want to capitalize on it and its only supposed to be worn for one night, at best..." Felipe shook his head, disappointed to say the least, before letting up a quick huff. "Absolutely not! I run a theatre so I prefer good quality over anything and Halloween is really that one time of year you can dress up and have fun without needing a stage or a reason for it." There was a low hum, knowing fully well that no such thing could be found in a regular store. "Hm, have you tried looking over a few second-hand shops? They might have something that could work as a base, would at least save you some time. It sounds pretty amazing though, I'm sure you would rock it. What series are they from?"
Rei wasn't a clumsy person and was always aware of her surroundings but when she was excited about something, things usually happen faster than she can process. She saw the splatter on his jacket, "Ah shit im sorry. I have some napkins. i can get it off." she dabbing the ice cream to make it worse. "Im alright, i just feel really bad about that. If it doesn't come off, i can wash it for you as an im sorry. it's a very nice jacket, i would feel really guilty for ruining it." she said with a sheepish smile as she looked up at.
"Doubt it's as easy as just washing it off, should probably be a proper dry clean if that's the case", he pointed out. "Put it in a washer and it will be worse for wear." Now why would he even leave his jacket with a stranger in the first place, was the question. Before one knew she would take off with it and sell for a few bucks, but alas even he had to admit it sounded like one hell of a dumb con to pull. Kayaan simply sighed and glanced over at his company again. "You should worry more about that ice cream of yours, whatever is left is already meltin' away. Unlucky day or sum?"
richard pursed his lips. "they dressed up as a business man?" richard scoffed and shook his head. "come on, and you honestly respect that? where's the effort? where's the originality?" he shook his head again, raising both hands in mock defeat. "if you're trying to convince me, kid. it ain't working. and who would want to dress up as a living? sounds exhausting."
"Ah, no I'm - ", he paused for a moment, recognizing that he was dealing with someone who didn't connect with the spirit of dressing up. "I was more or less suggestion costume ideas for those that don't want to go through the effort of putting on make-up or may not have too much money but still want to contribute for a party or something. I personally go all out but I also have the tools for such costumes. Surely you have something you want to try out or dress up as."
open starter (@chqstarter)
"Ugh, I am having the worst time trying to find my Halloween costume. I went through so many of them at the store and they were all just cheap and tacky. And now I'm trying to find pieces for another idea and there is like nothing here!" Kendra complained, wincing at another dress before moving on to the next rack. "Maybe I need to just admit defeat and make my own. Though I haven't designed or sewn anything in like a year now."
"You can't go into regular stores these days and expect quality when it comes to anything I'm afraid", Felipe replied with a light shake off his head, disappointed to say the least. "What type of costume did you have in mind? Making your own is always the fun bet but I guess it depends on the scale."
