I live in Europe, but racism and police violence against people of color is not an ‘American problem.’ Racism thrives here and always has. In the Netherlands, people of color who are brave enough to demonstrate against racism have been vilified, bullied, and treated violently by police. Police violence has claimed black lives here too. These deaths, and the systemic racism that fueled them, are unacceptable. This is something that must be addressed directly, not derailed by shifting the focus to other subjects, not met with force or violence, and not ignored with silence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s give momentum to those brave voices and organizations who are confronting injustice and racism head on.
