Things I've noticed about Fixies

If you set an element to position: fixed as you scroll down, you don't necessarily need to specify the left position as well, it will maintain its current left offset. 

In order for that to work you need to ensure that you have NOT set a left position and the width of the element to be fixed has NOT been set. 

This seems to work in all latest browsers. If you need to support < IE9 then I suspect it will break. 

Why do this?

Well... by not setting a left position you will no longer need to observe browser resize events to reposition the fixed element. It will just flow along and maintain its viewport setting.

* Note:  I should add that the requirement to NOT set the width was only noticed in Safari. Chrome and Firefox seem ok with it set.

Safari .5 pixel offset in svg paths

Sometimes you need to offset a <path> in Safari by .5px in order to prevent the stroke bumping up to 2px. I've found rounding to a real number and then adding .5 helps

semicolons in SASS can cause 500's

The Rails asset pipeline seems to choke and not give you a proper stack trace if you introduce a semi-colon into your sass. Weird.
