when faced with undesirable consequences of his actions, jayce feels unfathomable amounts of guilt that in turn influences his future decisions and motivations, but this should not be confused with regrets. he's not the type to mull over what-if scenarios and wishing he chose differently — especially if he believes he would not have chosen differently in the situation ( eg. saving viktor ). he's culpable for his mistakes and will do anything in his power to right them and grow from them — but he finds entertaining alternative scenarios, especially as the present situation grows worse, a waste of time.

A RARE OMEN INDEED. her gaze is aloft toward the cold moon, slung low against the yawning night sky. constellations entangle one another, stars alive as though they're responsive. ranni's words waft like a gentle tide, words ebbing ashore... “ they are kinder than they've been in quite some time, ” she comments with an eldritch understanding; as though speaking of an old friend. a beat of comfortable silence, fatality heavy in the air. her gaze is lost, enveloped within the velvet night sky. she traces the stars with her gaze as though she were chronicling it. for those passing moments, she is calm; perhaps transported to a simpler time, “ the stars bear witness to every oath honoured... and every oath broken, ” a calm smile ghosts upon her lips, a faint expression off fondness, “ so they must look upon thee with kindness. ” petite blue hand beckons him closer, a half-gesture that requests his company at the ledge she's sat. she tilts her gaze now to him, moonlight pooling over the delicate curvature of her cheeks, “ though i must admit, i am curious... dost thou put thy faith in the stars, or thine own wolfish pride? ” ( a humorous jab, told by the mischievous smile that tugs at her lips. ) “ come now, i speak in jest. humour me, perhaps? ”

she has not needed his protection for quite some time now ( perhaps, not ever ), but blaidd stands a looming figure at her back all the same, eyes cast toward the night sky : kind but cold, familiar as the beat of his oath and the chill that clung to his greatsword. things have changed since the days of running through the palace halls, sneaking through the kitchens and out to the woods. they will never be that simple again, but the truth can be just that : he is whatever she needs — as he has always been.

his laugh graces the air, a rare sound ranni always did seem to draw out the most. no hesitation colors his steps, one, two great strides bringing him to where she sits, glowing pale in the night, a moon onto herself. the shape she takes now should not be familiar, far more blue than red, and yet familiarity lingers around the details : the jut of the chin, the rare softness in her eyes, a delicate demeanor that hid the undercurrent of her power. he would recognize her no matter where her spirit dwelled.

" perhaps it is neither, but a good hunt and a sated stomach, " he offers, amusement curling into the cold air. with a silent motion he folds himself into sitting, one knee drawn up towards his chest, the other dangling off the ledge over the murky darkness below. a cold deep breath in. out. this feels like the first moment of rest he's had for quite some time. introspection solemns his voice, slow and deep. HEADCANON ; ariadne skews much more mundane in her day to day life compared to others in the extraction line of work. part of that is what her specialty as an architect affords her : she does not necessarily have to be part of the actual job, just designs the dreams and teaches them to others. but there are still occasions where she gets her hands dirty when a particularly complex layout is needed in a short period of time.

however, much of this leaning is more due to her seeking balance in her life between waking and dreaming. she seen firsthand what losing touch with reality does to people, and even she fell into that in the months after the fischer job. semblance of balance proved hard fought after that.

once she graduates, she gets a job as a real architect designing real buildings and spaces, and views dreaming as a bit of an expensive hobby. she can stand to be more selective with the jobs she accepts and sticks to lower risk ones — the exception is if anyone from the fischer job reaches out. she just can't resist. of course, in real life her designs have a bit of a surreal quality to them, but what else can be expected when she's walked places where traditional laws of physics don't apply ??
