Baby please come home || one

“Miracleor not– I’m just glad to be home,” he spoke honestly, not wantingto be anywhere else just then. Truth be told, he didn’t want to beanywhere else ever. If he could spend every waking moment with her, that would be more than enough for Nixon. No, they didn’t always seeeye to eye on things during the time of their relationship and therehad been plenty of years before that when they didn’t see eye to eyein general while they couldn’t even be considered friends. Thatdidn’t mean anything to him just now except for the build up thatbrought them to this moment when he could hold her again. All theyears in high school while passing the halls and barely noticing oneanother, all the times they didn’t even speak before they finallydid, all the stupid little arguments when they had a rocky start to arelationship; it all led to him being home with her again.
Theonly thing Nixon wanted was to be there with Devyn, holding her closeand never letting go. He knew that eventually they would have to pullapart when he got sent away again and that was a moment he wasdreading before even getting on the plane to fly home to her. Morethan anything though—it was a moment he was doing his best to notthink about as he pressed a light kiss to her forehead beforeglancing down at her. “We’re not playing at that, are we?” Asmile tugged at his lips that soon turned into a grin as he wrappedhis arms around her to pull her only a little closer. “Because I’dwin and we both know it. I missed you so damn much, Devyn.” So muchmore than he could even begin to describe, but he would do everythinghe could in the next week and a half to make sure she knew exactlyhow much before he had to get pulled away from her again.
“Ilove you,” he whispered while pressing his forehead against hersand breathing in deep, not wanting to let this moment go and onlywanting to hold it as close as he was holding her just now. After afew short moments passed, Nixon blinked his eyes open again to glanceback at her, barely pulling himself back from her so he could get abetter look at Devyn while still keeping his arms wrapped around her. This is what he had been dreaming of; seeing her again, holding herclose, being with her after the near year that had passed when he hadlast seen her in person. Nothing was better than this—until a thought crossed his mind.
“Whyare you home?” Not that he wasn’t glad to see her and even morethan glad, but she wasn’t supposed to be home just then. Nixonexpected to come back to an empty place since it was Christmas andshe should have been with her family. He knew she wouldn’t be out allnight and that would give him plenty of time to get himself situatedbefore she walked in the door and saw him there. Seeing her alreadythere wasn’t what he expected in the slightest. “It’s Christmas,Dev. Why aren’t you with your folks?”
"I'm glad that you're home too." If Devyn could have it her way, she would never let him go back after the holidays were over with. She would have kept him there with her. So she wouldn't have to go a day without him. But she knew he would have to go back. And that pained her. But for the time being, she wasn't going to think about it. All she would think about at the moment was spending time with him.
A small grin forming on her lips, she shrugged her shoulders slightly. "Maybe we are, maybe we aren't." Devyn knew that Nixon always won when they played the 'who missed each other the most' game. But still, it was a game she liked to play. Even if she never won. "You always win every single time." A soft smile forming on her lips, she gazed at him. Pressing her forehead against his, she closed her eyes for a moment before opening them back up. "I love you too." Part of her still thought that this was a dream. A dream she would wake up from. But it wasn't. And that was what made everything so much better.
That he was really home. That he was holding her. That for the first time in months, she was truly happy. Hearing his question, she sighed a bit. "I was at my parents house earlier. Helped them cook. But they could tell that I wasn't that happy." Of course she hadn't been happy earlier during the day. With the thought of having to spend the holidays without him, it made her upset. That for the first time ever, he wouldn't have been there. "Earlier, I thought you wouldn't have been coming home for the holidays. And I just, I couldn't be around my family while I was upset."
If there was one thing she loved about her family, it was that they were beyond understanding. Especially when it came to how Devyn was feeling too. "And I know it's Christmas, but with the thought that I wasn't going to be spending the holidays with you, it just, it didn't feel right. Truthfully, I felt alone. Everyone else in my family had their significant other, and then there was me, alone."
