My favorite thing about this is that Merlin is always referencing Arthur’s great destiny and the faith he has in it…but Arthur doesn’t have the knowledge about their destinies like Merlin does. No, every time Merlin brings up their destinies Arthur doesn’t understand it as something Merlin has been told, but rather as something that Merlin believes in - as proof that Merlin believes in him. And Arthur never questions it. Sure, he pokes fun, but you can see him always listening to what Merlin says, always studying the conviction with which Merlin seems to be saying these ideas that Arthur would never be able to vulnerably say about himself.

Merlin believes in Arthur, believes in the great man Arthur has become and the great things Merlin is told he will do. But Arthur? Arthur believes in Merlin. And if Merlin is telling him with such conviction that he’ll be victorious? Then dammit, he’ll go through hell and high water to make it true.

I didnt watch them until the second time around and BOY AM I GLAD I DID

I knew Game of Thrones was going to be a serious drama. And it was. The drama hasn’t even stopped. Dany’s fans still keep it going.

With Harry Potter, I knew the darkness was going to be measured. It was. Some important characters died, but in the end the trio was alive.

The Lord of the Rings, same thing. An epic fairy tale. But a fairy tale all the same. After some hurdles and losses, all was well again.

But with Merlin…

It was marketed as a young and modern retelling of the Arthurian legend. And it was. At first. What with Merlin being snarky and having an even snarkier older form and supposedly always being in the tavern.

And then Arthur died.

And Merlin’s still waiting for him to come back. And I’m still waiting for him to come back. And you’re still waiting for him to come back. 

And so Merlin turned out to be, quite without warning… the saddest ever thing.
