They just like hanging out together…
Some of the rest of the troop. Our class was invited to a behind the scenes tour when the keepers were feeding the chimp’s lunch. I was raised in the era of “Plant of the Apes” so I find these lovely beasties fascinating but a little scary. I liked Jerrard on the first photo below, who is bald from over grooming, and missing ear parts from fighting. Also, Regina in the last two photos who has just a wonderful face.
I love catching these big beautiful Florida Common Snapping Turtles 🤠 as menacing as they may seem they are actually just super defensive when someone as big as me pulls them from the water . They will usually try to bite at you then flee immediately after or when I mentioned in the video he was standing his ground . Snapping turtle will lift up parts of their body in which you are facing them in order to protect their forelimbs . Even though they are heavy bodied resilient turtles they have a reduced carapace(bottom part of the shell) in which doesn’t offer much protection as far as pulling everything in like a majority of aquatic species and is their most vulnerable point to injury’s .
