We don’t talk enough about Dean Winchester clearly has BPD
I mean yes, he does have PTSD as well, but they often go together, so
1. Fear of abandonment
Idk if I need to comment it, Dean’s deepest fear is being abandoned. Just remember “I can’t do this alone. Yes, you can. Yeah, well, I don’t want to.”
He needs someone by his side, not because he’s bored, but because he can’t stand the thought of being alone. John, Sam, Bobby, Cas - someone has to be around. Always.
2. Unstable relationships
It’s difficult for people with BPD to maintain stable consistent relationships. That’s always from “you’re dead to me” to “I’m sorry it took me so long”. Oops.
Dean frequently says things he doesn’t really mean, because he’s driven by emotions, not his mind.
3. Identity disturbance
He doesn’t know who he is without the people around him. He’s a soldier, he’s an instrument, he’s a hunter, a killer, a puppet, the true vessel, the big brother… but none of that is the real Dean. He can’t see who he really is behind the mask he’s wearing.
4. Masking
That’s the consequence of identity disturbance. If you don’t know who you are (or if you just can’t be), you gotta create a new version of yourself. Dean hasn’t just “changed”. He tried to be the person he never really was.
5. Impulsivity
With BPD, impulsivity is aimed at self destruction: risky behavior, alcoholism, self-harm, casual sex, binge eating, reckless driving etc. No comments needed.
6. Suicidal behavior or self-harm
We know that guy, right?
7. Emotional lability & intensity
Everything he feels, he feels at his maximum. Dizzy happiness with hopeful thoughts turns into knuckles bruised with despair, it’s a never-ending cycle.
His emotions are as rapid and unpredictable as a rollercoaster. He lives in extremes, no more, no less.
8. Chronic feel of emptiness
Somewhere deep down, Dean wants to live. I truly believe that. But he just can't, not with this black hole inside — with all that loss and lack of hope. He tries to fill it with sex, beer, and burgers, but it’s just not working. So he lives on autopilot. He hunts and takes risks because he’s not afraid to lose his life. Because despite all those vivid emotions, there’s nothing left in him."
9. Inappropriate, intense anger
He is. He just…is
10. Splitting
"You’re either with us, or you’re in our way." No in-between exists for Dean
So yes. I want more bpd coded Dean Winchester on my feed ‘cause he deserves to be understood ❤️🩹
