I love my PlayStation 4, like so many other fans I lined up at midnight to be one of the first to get home and get playing as soon as possible. I bought all the accessories that I painstakingly saved for and a whole bunch of games to play. This is not surprising when you consider the technical and physical prowess of the PS4, it is surprising however that up until this point their hasnt been an awesome flagship exclusive title to drive the console home, other than a few pretty sweet indie titles. That is until March when infamous: Second Son releases in March.
My gaming set up, hoping to get a second BenQ monitor in the next month or two :)
Aksys Games, along with MarvelousAQL and Arc System Works, are currently hosting a charity sale with part of the proceeds going to help those affected in the Philippines by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). Aksys Games will be selling Muramasa Rebirth and BlazBlue merchandise at a special price on their online store.
If exploring the Capital Wasteland the traversing the Mojave left you itching for another post apocalyptic adventure then you may be excited by the fact that Bethesda has filed a trademark for Fallout 4 in Europe
PlayStation Pulse Headset Review
Unboxing and setup In the box you actually get very little, you get your good-looking Pulse headset, the USB fob and a connection cable for a standard headphone jack. The headset uses a USB charge lead, so other than that it is completely wireless.
You may have noticed from the box contents that there is no way to charge your device, well spotted my friendsâŠthe Pulse headset does have an old style mini jack, the same option you have for charging your Dualshock pads. This is a small problem however seen as how most new mobile phone and devices use a new style mini jack. For a headset such as the Pulse to boast its usable right out of the box with most audio devices is kind of a bend in the truth, yes its compatibleâŠ. but only if you have the correct PS3 USB charge lead, for a headset that is compatible with a PC and other devices and to not come with a suitable connector baffles me, especially considered they cost in the region of ÂŁ125 (I got mine from GAME), for that price Sony could have easily bundled even just a tiny charge cable. So please note these are not fit for purpose right out the box, ensure you have an existing or spare charge cable if you think about forking out the cash. Please note however every PS3 console does come with one of the above mentioned charge cables, so if youâre picking it up exclusively for your PS3 you will have no issues.
On the back of the ear cans you have your control of the sound, you get your overall master volume control and a balancing control to tweak the mix between voice communication and sound, depending if your feeling a little more social or just want to concentrate on your own game. There is a mode control to switch between the presets of which there are six (switch between gaming genres, music and movies), whatâs really nice is the voice verification you get through the headset that speaks to you to let you know what youâve selected without taking the headset off to check. Youâll also get a visual update on the screen when you switch between sound modes when using the Pulse. You also are able to configure the bass level so you can tone it down if itâs too much or you can vamp up the bass if you want a little extra kick. These sliders have a very smooth movement for easy control over your audio experience.
You have you mic muter which changes the colour of the little light to show you itâs muted, a very cool little feature. The wireless adapter has an audio in port that you can tailor into your existing sound system so you can really get the pulse linked into to your already extensive sound setup should you so wish it, and why wouldnât you, the Pulse is a stylishly designed headset!
Comfortable, this is the only way can describe the feel of the Pulse headset, the ears can get a little hot after a couple of hours. But thatâs because of the excellent comfort the Pulse sports thanks to not only the flexible design but also the ergonomic ear cup cushion design so they really clamp around your head nicely, because of this you can easily tell which way to wear your headset even without a mic sticking out in the direction of the party. The comfort band across head is amazing with the Pulse as the entire headset is designed to snugly latch around your head; the headband is very well padded and supports the full weight of the headset with no discomfort.
The Pulse has a solid and wicked cool design, they are no where near as ridged as some headsets which provide an extremely well fitted comfortable experience when using the Pulse headset. The arms have a great range of movement allowing a good fit for any size head, so if youâre a total big head like myself you wont be disappointed. The microphone is built in; nothing sticks out at obscure angles to get in the way to your gaming experience.
Connect to your mobile device I used the Pulse headset with both my PlayStation Vita and a Sony Xperia, sound quality was amazing, the speech was very clear and because they have such a cool design you can happily wear them out in public. The Pulse has a really great wireless range of around 15 to 20 feet and an audio jack in USB to connect your other gadgets to. This will allow you can listen to dvds/music etc on the go, I linked my ipod up to mine as a test and had a wander around the house. Combine these cool features with the lavish comfort you get from the Pulse and you have one great mobile headset.
Sound The design of the cups really blocks out that background sound well, youâll get a really immersive gaming experience as a result. The sound isolation is just fantastic. One problem with this is you canât really hear yourself speak so you donât know if your teammates can hear you or if youâre in avertedly deafening them.
With the Pulse I feel Sony has made a move away from the social gamer a little and slightly targeted themselves towards the hardcore gamer, it gives you an advantage not just a decent audio experience
The Dolby surround sound is pretty standard without your BassImpact on the sound is very pure and you do get a decent sense of what is going on in each direction. Although the Pulse delivers a decent performance, they are using Hi-Fi 7.1 surround sound, just like other brands, and the pulse that cost more for that same technology. If you combine the surround sound with the BassImpact technology, suddenly you are a FPS demon with the gift of premonition as you keep track of your opponents movements with every footstep and floorboard creak. The Pulse provides not only an exciting experience but also can lend itself to a competitive gaming style. The overall sound quality is amazing, very clear with no weaker areas in the pure sound and as I said even though the surround sound is average, the BassImpact adds another dimension to the headset.
Volume is pretty decent on the Pulse headset when just running in off mode while using an audio jack, this isnât always enough to block out ambient noise ( go to work on the bus or train?) if thatâs an issue, what you can do is just switch them on, connect them to your device wirelessly and get a nice boost in volume should you so need it, do bear in mind if you wish to make use of the BassImpact technology the Pulse headset does need to be switched on.
BassImpact technology Can you imagine having two rumble packs elastic banded to the sides of your head? There have been other headsets that have had rumble modes on them in the past and they have all had their own problems, the Pulse instead has actuators. What the actuators do is move in and out with electrical pulses kind of like your standard speakers, the rumble takes time to wind up and wind down which leads to delays and a slightly disjointed feel for the sound.
The BassImpact technology is fabulous, not only does it give you a much richer response to low frequency sounds, but to every little sound in a game, movie or listening to music. They interact with game sounds and respond to not only allow you to hear something but also feel it in the same way as you would in real life such as a train speeding past you or a car overtaking on the outside.
They lend themselves to shooting games beautifully, explosions sound real and sneaking little campers can be rooted out.
If your listening to something with a lot of base, say some decent music on the train or bus and you crank up your bass control they will literally shake on your headâŠa good way to turn a few heads if you like the lime light. Itâs great that the BassImpact isnât limited to sitting in front of your PS3.
Speech Speech in from other players and during phone calls is very clear and easily distinguishable from game sound coming through the headset, there is also noise canceling technology to allow you speech comes through clear while using a set of Pulse. This works to a degree, the speech is clear for people to hear, however the Pulse mic does sound like a standard Bluetooth headset to me, Sony have put a lot of effort into the sound quality of the headset so perhaps something is going on in there that might slightly dampen the quality of the crystal clear voice communication they have gone for. The Pulse headset is completely wireless and is just connected via a dongle that may having something to do with it.
PEM Manager The Pulse-Elite Edition Manager, allows owners of the Pule Wireless Stereo Headset to download new audio modes to the Pulse headset, sounds magnificent right? Well yeah if you live in America, if you live in the UK there is no such app as itâs only available on the American store, which sucks. For your benefit though this does add: âąÂ   Football (Game): BassImpact lets you feel the crunch of bone-crushing tackles or jolts behind every kick of the football. âąÂ   Horror (Movie): Deep bass sounds are enhanced to heighten the eerie atmosphere while the high shrill of screams are boosted to make you jump out of your seat. âąÂ   Action (Movie): The low and high sounds of explosions and gunfire are magnified delivering a bigger and more intense audio experience. âąÂ   Techno (Music): The lows of bass beats and highs of synthesizers are amplified enhancing the audio experience. âąÂ   Hip Hop (Music): Hear the kick of low bass combined with crisp sounds of vocals. Again I canât vouch for any of these as we donât have access to them in the UK, but if your in America please download them as from our experience of the other sounds modes available in the retail box are nothing other than superb.  Conclusion Donât expect to be blown away by the virtual surround sound as it is slightly lacking, however the feel of the bass makes up for that in so many ways, you will enjoy your games, music and films that much more because of it. The Pulse headset has been designed for your absolute enjoyment of your digital entertainmentâŠand delivers. BassImpact allows you to feel the noises that give you a very keen sense or direction based on feel and not just sound alone, is that better than just surround sound? I think so.
For multi platform gamers out there, you may find an Astro Gaming, Turtle Beach or Tritton headset more convenient, but for a pure PS3 player this is no better option, the Pulse headset makes your games more exciting, are extremely comfortable and look bad ass.
Pros Awesome high-fidelity audio Built-in rechargeable battery Feeling of âBassImpactâ technology Convenient wireless solution Compatible with mobile devices They look really good
Cons No USB charge cable included No PS3 App in the UK
GT OmegaRacing Simulator Review
Having the opportunity to review the GT Omega plays on not only much love for fast cars but also my childhood dreams of being a race car driver, a lot of people reading this (as well as the DG news team) can identify with this.
Construction, Components and Comfort
The Cockpit in total weighs 42kg for that youâd expect a lot of parts and a complicated building process. This could not be further from the truth; it actually takes longer to unpack all your components than it does to build the GT Omega Racing simulator. Still 42kgs in fairly light in racking cock pit terms but still more than Iâd like to carry over any distance. The design is constructed entirely of one inch steel tubing that has a nice dusty finish to it, add to that the striking red of the seat and you have one sport car looking rig while maintaining a minimalistic and clean presence.
For mounting the pedals there is an angled steel plate which I found housed the pedals just perfect both in pitch and height so that I could sit and operate the pedals while maintaining a high level of comfort.
There is an adjustable plate to also mount the steering wheel, which sits at a perfect height and angle for ease of use, both the wheel and pedal mount have their tubes pre drilled to accommodate the most popular set ups. You arenât limited to these specification owners of cockpits like the GT Omega let their imaginations run wild and customize them to suit your own personal likes and needs.
After we put the GT Omega together I was impressed with the strength of the frame, believe me when I said the DG team arenât the most athletic bunch, the frame supported the driver, wheel, seat, pedals and a lot of use and we had not one issue with its construction. Those tube steel pipes do wonders!
The seat also gave us a pleasant surprise, using a handle you can adjust the seat position and slide the seat back and forth to accommodate pretty much anyone. If youâre shorter than the average driver you may find the sitting position slightly off. Recline of the seat is also fully adjustable so you can find your perfect driving position with ease. The seat itself is very comfortable, to a point where I almost considered unscrewing the front half of the GT Omega rig so I could use it as much desk chair. Once I sat in it I just wanted to race! The synthetic leather is also extremely high quality and again comfortable to sit on.
The standard GT Omega simulator comes with complete frame, wheel and pedal mounts and racing seat and also a removable rear speaker mount. Just a note try not to leave the speaker mounts on if youâre not using them as they sit about knee height for anyone watching over your shoulder as you burn rubber around the tracks, You can pick up this basic GT Omega Pro Cockpit ÂŁ250 directly from the GT Omega site if you pre order it.
The Pro version of the simulator adds a keyboard tray, shifter mount and monitor support for ÂŁ60 more, for only a moderate increase in price you will be left with absolutely anything you could need for all your racing needs. The shifter support is actually incredibly well made, GT Omega have really capitalized on the poor design of other manufacturers and really set the standard for this peripheral attachment.
GT Omega have also released a Simulator Supreme bundle for a further ÂŁ40 extra, which also adds the option of having triple screen sets ups, front mount speakers to compliment the rear speaker mounts and a drink holder which we really could have done with on our 24hr test run which Iâll go into more detail later.
All in all the GT Omega Pro Racing Simulator in an incredibly well-crafted kit. The GT Omega Racing Simulator was very easy to set up and is very comfortable. You canât ask for much more than that.
The Gaming Experience
Itâs all well and good rearranging all your furniture and setting up the GT Omega Racing Simulator in the centre of your room in all its grandeur but itâs not worth a penny if the gaming experience isnât good.
As I said the sitting position is extremely customizable and comfortable, almost amazing to a flaw. Depending on your seating position and the low ride cockpit design it can be hard to get out the dam thing once youâve finished gaming so be aware of that and ensure you use the handle to adjust the set so you can get out with ease.
We have actually thoroughly put the GT Omega Racing Simulator through its paces, we used the Simulator for a 24 hour charity fund raiser where the DG race team raced for 24 hours solid non-stop to raise money for Ty Hafan. We also took the GT Omega to our local GAME store for two lock-in events to let the local gaming community have a go and let us know what they thought.
The 24 hours test was a truly gruelling test not only for the DG team but also the wheel, and it performed beautifully. The sturdy build quality means we had no problem with the GT Omega sliding around, nor did us have to battle any sort of shaking. The Racing Simulator cockpit was comfortable for extreme lengths of time, which we have proven and provided a pleasurable and smooth experience. Over 24 hours none of us complained of any aches or pains, that is a great testament to the comfort the wheel provides. The only thing we ended up having to battle was our previous lap time just the way the world intended it, that and sleep deprivation. Next time weâre going to go for a world record so watch out for news on that! We have no problems with durability and construction during the 24 hours of solid road time we put into the GT Omega Racing Simulator.
The feedback we got at the GAME lock in events was simply incredible, a lot of the people we had queuing to have a go had never used a racing wheel before and really enjoyed the experience of using the GT Omega Racing Simulator. One guy even tried to buy it from us!
The game we used for the harsh training and the events itself is none other than the granddaddy GT5 so we can go for the full on simulation experience of racing.
To sum things up
I had great fun giving the GT Omega Racing Simulator a test run. The Omega is comfortable, durable and strong. You are able to adopt a natural driving position due to the variable seat position and angle. At this price the GT Omega is unrivalled and you have to spend a lot of money to find something that offers more.
   PROS
Solid construction
Easy to build
Adjustable to cater for different sitting position
Excellent value for money
24 hour tested
CONS
Lack of phone/mp3 player dock
Dashboard area for general storage and aesthetics
Permanent set-up, no easy way to move or transport once built

Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick V.S Review
As any Tournament player will tell you an Arcade stick is the one gaming accessory that trumps all others, I fondly remember arcades chomping through my pocket change when ever I went on holiday when I was younger as we had no arcades in my local town. I donât know whether it was because I didnât have regular access to an arcade FightStick or if it was just nostalgia but the Arcade FightStick had always held a special sort of attitude, sentiment and excitement about them.
Iâve witnessed several fight stick tournaments in the past few years; I even entered one for fun (here in Cardiff and the atmosphere has always been electric. The Arcade FightStick community is definitely a culture of perfectionism, elitism and individuality. Each stick you see is a labour of love. As I sit here in the office with the Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick V.S. on my lap, they are the feelings I get, excitement, perfectionism and a labour of love.
The FightStick V.S really is a thing of beauty, it has your X,Y,A,B buttons and the other blacked out buttons used for shoulder button control (there is a turbo option for those of you who wish to dabble in the dark arts), the ball end stick sits neatly on the dash and the back drop themed for the Street Fighter X Tekken game with which I will be running this Mad Catz stick through its paces. The Arcade FightStick V.S. will happily sit on your lap, a floor or a desk as he base is a sturdy metal with rubberized grippy feet so its doesnât slip around as your mashing away. On the backside is a small compartment for storing the extensive plug and play USB cable that is great for storing the cable when not in use.
Unique to the V.S edition Arcade FightSticks, you are able to pick up a Connector kit so you can strap two of these bad boys together so you can recreate those intense V.S battle you may have experienced in an arcade side by side with your mates. Unfortunately this doesnât come in the box but itâs a great optional upgrade.
Mad Catz have stated that the FightStick V.S. was created to appeal to the serious fighting game enthusiast and it delivers! The Authentic Japanese-style Sanwa joystick and buttons are the only option for professional tournament goers and really bring back the feeling of standing at a cabinet unit in an arcade. The button layout is also a traditional Arcade favourite, again completely necessary. Sanwa parts are the best on the planet, no ifs, ands or butts, which is a good reason why these Mad Catz FightSticks out do their competitors. They are incredibly responsive and had an immense quality feel whether youâre a clicker or a masher. The Sanwa stick itself has a smooth range of movement, Mad Catz had no option to use these high-end parts if they wanted to be taken seriously, they have certainly been turning heads with this stick as a result.
The classic button layout is important, I was particularly glad that the start buttons were far enough away so that I didnât accidently slam them mid flow and interrupt my gameplay as I do go a little overboard when I get a bit too into it, this can also cause disqualifications during tournamentsâŠIâve seen it happen.
As you can expect the high quality parts provide a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience, a gaming pad really does not compare, you will have the advantage over anyone using a gamepad not only because the buttons are better located for pulling off audacious special moves but also because the range of movement that a joystick allows for much quicker and more accurate control of your game. The Sanwa parts perform expertly as you would expect and the overall feel of the product is outstanding and delivers on that arcade authenticity that I so desired.
The Turbo Mode was fun to play around with and definitely lends itself to some games more than others, personally itâs not for me but there are people out there who will get a whole lot of joy out of it.
The Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick V.S. comes in two versions, one for the PS3 and one for the Xbox 360. The price of the FightStick V.S.is quite steep at $199.99 but that being said you are getting an extremely high quality product that is simply better than any other FightStick I have used for quite some time. On that note I cannot award the Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick V.S. anything other than a 10/10 because itâs hard to see how they can improve the design any further. There is no competition with the build quality, functionality and performanceâŠthe FightStick V.S. is simply better.
Pros
Sanwa Denshi components
Arcade Layout
Suitable for professional and casual players
Robust build quality
Compatible with all major fighting games
Cons
I only have one lap so I canât justify buying two
