7 Ingredients for a Happy Life
1. Decide to let go of worry and “what ifs”
2. Work on developing your self-confidence
3. Forgive yourself, and others, and let go of grievances
4. Be open and warm in your relationships
5. Don’t compare yourself with other people
6. Define own success
7. Be optimistic, and keep on persevering.
Happiness is a choice, and so is unhappiness.
Some people don’t want to hear that. They want to believe that their reactions to the things that happen in their lives are valid and warranted. The truth is they are, it’s normal to get upset over things, there’s nothing abnormal about you if you do, but maybe normal isn’t’ what we’re looking for.
We have a choice in how we react to the things that happen to us. Now they can easily feel out of our control, and often that can be the case, but we can take tiny steps to gaining some of that control back.
The first step is awareness.
Awareness doesn’t require some magical meditation technique, or for you to sit quietly in a room. The only thing required to workout our awareness muscles is paying more attention to what’s happening inside. We have to pay attention to our thoughts, not just what they may be, but also dig in deeper to figure out WHY they are that why. If the causes of those thoughts end up being things like jealousy, fear, entitlement, immaturity, we have to be prepared to admit it, to ourselves at the very least.
Honest conversations with ourselves are essential. No one else can hear that dialogue, so be as naked and forthcoming what you really think and feel when they take place. Also realize, even within our brains, they’re are entities like our logic & emotions, that just won’t get along, those battles never end, but at least if we’re aware of the daily fight, we’re in a better spot.
The more focused we become on self-awareness, the more we’ll experience self-improvement.
