Hello! I am interested in doing a giveaway and would be so grateful if you can tell me how picking a winner with a random number generator works? Did you just get a random number between 1 and the number of notes and then count off through them? I've been confused about this for a while so thank you so much if you chose to answer!!
I went to the post notes, copied all the notes, pasted them into a googledocs spreadsheet, and painstakingly deleted all the lines of text that weren't usernames / ID#. For example— likes count as notes, and I wasn't counting likes, so I deleted all lines containing "x liked your post" to take them out of the final count; same for "x reblogged your post, because it gets counted as a separate line.... urg I'm not explaining well. Here, pictures:
Then I made a column to the side of the usernames, and numbered each line so, like this:
when I was done deleting unneeded rows / adding the number rows, I had an even 70. I then went to Random.Org and entered 1 as my minimum and 70 as my maximum, and hit generate to get my winner!
A much easier way to do this would be have a theme that numbers the notes automatically, but I was too lazy to go find one/modify my own just for this specific instance... and yet not too lazy to delete a trillion lines of unneeded text... well, either way, that's how you do it!
