Finally coming to terms with last weekend, maybe a little more able to think about it rationally. I definitely wasn’t at the time. It just seemed to pass in a bit of a blur. I’ve never had a launch night before, and never had a physical release either. Just seeing the vinyl was a trip. I had already been really nervous in the days leading up to that night, and on getting to the venue that evening I was barely in control, acting like I was on speed and just hoping everything would pan out ok.

The other bands were cool, and I tried to enjoy it like I was just at any gig. It also helped take my mind off everything else, not least being asked to sign some of the singles, which was weird but also kinda cool. When it was our turn to set up the nerves started to fade; they always do at this point. I guess it’s just because I’m more in control of what happens next, and if there’s anything that I can be confident in, it’s my ability to play bass and perform.

We’re introduced by Will, and suddenly headlong into the set. This I can’t really describe, I always drop into a weird headspace when I play, and I can never really remember what I’ve just done in any detail, so here are some highlights: Generally going down really well, new songs really happening, usual repeating pattern of getting totally knackered before getting second wind, usual inability to feel any physical pain, bleeding from my picking hand to the point where my fingers started to stick to themselves as it coagulated, throwing my bass at my amp at the end of the set and genuinely wondering if it would be playable again, keeping moving (preferably airborne) at all costs, and finally feeling totally, wonderfully exhausted and spent and satisfied when it was all finally over.

Something really happened that night. I can feel it.
