I'm glad you're feeling better. What a wild time to be a med student.
Thank you!! Yep haha itâs certainly been interesting
a good episode imo!! made me cry, but still, good !
it's not funny but it is how all the darwin doctors were an entire fucking mess of severe personal trauma & instead of addressing it holby just went 'hmmm but what if literally the entire ct surgical team just hit rock bottom in very violent ways' & the rest of the staff are all either half heartedly pretending that didn't happen or that it happened in a vacuum like the dominoes effect of total psychological breakdowns that happened was just a bad bug that went around the ward.
hahaha, yes. Someone should probably notify Public Health of the Darwin 'life falling apart' outbreak.
hmm Jac sorta does view all human interaction as warfare tbf
i mean, yeah. Definitely got some trust issues going on over there
any thoughts on Madge's character? (and how's your work/school? are you ok? you were really burned out before because of everything)
From what I've seen so far I like her! She has a an authentic no-nonsense senior nurse vibe about her, which I like, but also it might end up being a touch stereotypical. Will be interesting to see what they have planned for her.
And I'm okay, thank you for asking! Less burned out! I'm on holiday at the moment and it's been very good to have time to relax.
How do you think (or wish) they'd play it if they go the route of exploring her past + more sensitively addressing her chronic mental illness? Is there anything you'd like brought up specifically since we're in Holby's final days?
I know they've touched on her childhood before, but I think it would be interesting if they explored it in more detail. I can't really remember the Fran storyline that well, but I there was things left unsaid. In terms of her mental health, maybe they could acknowledging it with a formal cPTSD diagnosis, which would tie in with exploring her past. But, having said that, I don't really trust Holby to handle it sensitively, so probably best they don't go there...
I am intrigued about Madge and how she knows Jac! We might get some interesting backstory there.
It's too late now, what with Kian being dead, but I would have loved a uni flashback ep. I also wouldn't hate a Jac meets her father storyline. When Paula turned up the second time she told Jac who he was, and that he was dead, but I wouldn't put it beyond her to lie about that.
is she physically unwell or emotionally unwell or BOTH is the question. because I think it's all mental (the lift scenes made me think of her dissociative episodes) but Holby seems obsessed with making her physically suffer (literally how much of the past few years did she spend as a patient?? leave her alone!!!!).
didnât she go through like 8 surgeries in 1 year? youâre right - leave her alone!!!
as to whether itâs physical or psychological, who knows. Someone definitely has something neurological going on. The spoilers that mention Jac refusing to operate makes me think itâs her, but I could be wrong. I quite like the theory that itâs Elliot, but Iâm still not over his weird rejection when she was unwell.Â
With Kianâs death sheâs bound to be upset, and itâs a big thing to process. I donât want to pathologise grief, but I am interested to see if they go down the mental illness route again. We all know she doesnât exactly have the healthiest approach to dealing with her emotions.
I would actually be interested to see more scenes with Jac and Lucky! Jacâs struggles with her mental health are chronic (I agree with other people- adjustment disorder wasnât the diagnosis to go with), and it would be good if they sensitively addressed that. Given the fact that soon thereâs going to be No More Holby, it does perhaps feel time to explore her past, and the enormous amount of subtext thatâs built up over the years.Â
unironically asking when that happened? i just remember encephalitis being floated when she had her psychotic breakdown.
it was after Gaskell tried to poison her and they brought Selfie back! It was either due to the neo-conduit or the neurotoxin, I think. I mean the whole thing definitely should have killed her, I do remember her having an MI mid brain surgery, which isnât great. Vive la Jac I guess!Â
Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis is an interesting one, as it can cause psychosis! Also I think the âneurotoxinâ was MPTP, which causes Parkinsonism, but they never seemed to go down that route.Â
ah yes because âJac is Unwellâ is CLEARLY a trope that hasnât been explored enough
would be interesting if holby acknowledged the time Jac had hydrocephalus, autoimmune encephalitis and a literal heart attack
the way people talk about type 2 diabetes, and specifically the way people talk about people who have type 2 diabetes...is pretty fucked
having diabetes is not a moral failure
Reblogging this yet again because YES!
eco-wedding looking a little bit Midsommar
She has been back ONE episode and we already have a âJac sparks concernâ spoiler
lol same. and I'd love Rosie to get on something like LOD, I hope she isn't finished with acting completely. everyone forgets her career was on the rise before she got sick. and lbr, she'd look great in uniform.
sorry this sat in my inbox for ages !!
v happy to see her back as Jac, but also Let the woman do a gritty BBC drama hahaha
