Diamond Circus, a Steven Universe AU, where Pink Diamond is the leader of the Diamond Authority and Yellow Diamond, now Jasper, flees to establish a safe haven on Earth. Centuries later Jasper’s experiences lead to the creation of Steven. Her companions, the Crystal Gems, adapt to the changes of raising a child and the disparaging possibility that Homeworld’s circus is back in town.

The word I’ve looked for to describe Yellow’s abilities is kinetic energy. Not lightning specifically tho that’s the best way to visually represent her abilities. It must feel like urgency & spontaneous. Making it zigzag makes sense. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Like a sneeze lol. It hurts to control a sneeze or a cough. Somehow Yellow is strong enough to handle the pain & force of that concentration. When she loses herself it surges everywhere. Yellow is not allowed to be unhinged. Self control & regulation must be important to her because of that.

Often nervous systems are depicted as possessing currents of energy. The rhythm in our bodies can be thrown off or corrected by energy via defibrillator. When gems are destabilized, it visually resembles a nervous system. Also a circuit board pattern too!

I’m also thinking of ways to connect these ideas that relate to Steven. Something about circuitry, power, and perseverance.

💡🪫📱 maybe some technology/power usage terms for Steven:

Quick witted, needs an outlet, direct, speedy recharge, explosive, can easily cause static shock, large output can power surges in himself and/or power outages.

So Yellow forcibly fused Opal’s pieces together, how did Opal’s components get shattered in the first place? I hope it wasn’t Yellow. Or even if it was her, then at least because the Pearl and Amethyst did some kind of punishable offense. Not just because Yellow needed some fodder for experimentation.

Also it would help if the pages that feature or mentioned Opal had her tag.

No shattering, she only needs enough of a sample to create a certain type of gem.

Other planets have different ecosystems to produce certain gems. What could be easily grown on Mars may be difficult to produce in another galaxy.

Unlike WD, PD allows the diamonds to visit during the construction process & while the newest gems are forming. So Yellow can visit planets she performs on OR is entertained on to grab samples.

I saw this headband in my Lapis inspo and added it here.

I don’t want the smaller arm to shape shift, though it usually carries a shield. I'm also considering the smaller arm will be a different shade of green.

Inspired by a Mantis shrimp 🦐 She still needs a fusion name.

Learning vector art with Affinity 🌸

A bit of a learning curve since I learned from Illustrator. I really want to be as good as I was with my original Diamond Websites.

I freehanded this, so i will draw some sketches and find a better solution for making the mural more elaborate.

🌸 I am interested in how detailed these will be for PD in comparison to WD’s.

For a brief moment, I considered making this image have curves, since PD’s Homeworld is full of ovals & circles. Andd that could be interesting to see.

🌸 Would other diamonds (BD & YD) focus on other things in the depiction of a mural.

Larger heads, more simple, only their diamond shapes — stuff like that.

Tried to draw my own versions of the gems in the ruins. I was a little disappointed but that’s just cuz style comparison BUT then I was like —who are these gems? As in what status are they to be referenced/included in a building’s design.

I’m sure PD’s arena, base, and other structures were the same on most authority planets (as long as it’s sustainable)

Homeworld has gems in their walls, and for those I wonder when the Diamonds’ light struck them, did they just became literal rubble. :/

Though they s h o u l d be corrupted like everyone else. Like a mimic or a hunted monster house

But these gems aren’t exactly like those. Those look like they were carved into the wall.

I guess I would compare them to Obsidian’s statue. Or Rose Fountain, just statues. But again… why would the diamonds allow those to be built.

To keep folks in check? Someone to aspire to. A gem like Eyeball & Peridot who are away from home need the vivid reminders of greatness so they aren’t influenced into other thoughts

Maybe they are generals or higher leaders with pearls? Jasper, Aquamarine, and Nephrite would have had big ass sculptures for their heroism one day.

I’d be pissed Steven ruined my chances of getting a statue too 😂
